Has a quilified calligrapher and illuminater I watched your video and found that you explained how to write copper plate so well, I write in many different types of hand writing and your explained every thing so well its people like you that take calligraphy to a wider audience thank you.
I've watched your videos long time ago and dedicated to Copperplate a lot and a lot of time :) I even red a book to keep improving it and now I'm still practice 😊. Now I came here to thank you, than you for sharing this knowledge, you are a great person. I hope for you all the joy of this life.
I started my calligraphy journey couple month ago. I more or less understood minuscule letters. Now I started to learn majuscules. And your video helped me a lot. Thank you!
You mention Paul Antonio, and I know he is a master scribe, but I feel like you're a better teacher, I feel like you do a better job breaking it down into digestible pieces for us amateurs. Thanks for the videos!
.. The last stem is a revelation. Capital N is not enjoyable because of this very stem. I never got it to look right but now I know.. Thank you, Julie & Jordan..
Stem 1 from top to base Curvy once not twice Come back up with small dot Go to the left and come back up Stem 2 from base to top Make dot on top or base Stem 3 part of oval Continue and come back with shade(less pressure) Stem 4 90° perpendicular line
Superb tutorial! To confirm, the vertical line is close to perpendicular but not quite? I can't tell if the first guide you drew was supposed to be vertical or not.
Thanks so much for this! I would love to learn copperplate and would have to teach myself so this is very helpful for a beginner like me who has no idea where to start
For the upstroke hairline capital stem, what angle should this be drawn at? For example, if I drew a capital A, the hairline stroke would need to be at a shallower angle than the standard 55 for it to work. Is there a standard angle for that particular stroke?
Great question! For the capital A, M, and N, the hairline upstroke can be adjusted so the rest of the letter follows the 55 degree slant. Usually it'll only be a slight difference, like an angle of 50 degrees. If you make it too shallow then the letter ends up looking too wide. You can play around with it and see what looks (and feels) best to you. Thanks!
Hello! I'm from Russia. Could you tell what manufacturer ink you use? And is it possible to achieve the same result with chinese hard bricks (making ink myself)?
thank you for your reply, yes i've finally ordered an oblique holder from an online shop. i've been loving it practicing my handwriting. hope to be able to do some nice letterings soon...
