Coral Maker is using Autodesk's Design and Make Platform to restore precious reef habitats worldwide. Motivated by a catastrophic coral bleaching event in her home country of Australia, Dr. Taryn Foster founded Coral Maker to change the scale of coral restoration. Leveraging new technologies and ways of thinking, we've come together to save the world's most biodiverse ecosystem.

Very cool. We should also consider modifying their genomes to make them more resilient to heat.

Interesting, since I work in VFX (Allo, Montréal). I'm having a hard time to understand your project, effort vs results. In some of the clips you show aluminimum mold, assuming these are not use in the ocean but for the process? There's a ton of concerns about the design on what I saw, space between corals, weight distribution of the coral socket, material use(?), coral choices, etc... I do understand the marketing value that is created, beautiful videos, but the amount of energy spent to create so little (for now) is hard to grasp, so I'm looking forward to get more explanation and see what's hidden, meanwhile, I still use Maya and 3DsMax ;)

looks like a single ceramic block (aluminum footage was probably just in there for the cooler visuals) is reserved for multiple frags of a single coral species, those won’t fight each other so space isn’t a concern until they reach colony size and are branching over to touch other blocks. agree with the effort:impact ratio, it might make more sense to automate frag collection or delivery. much easier to train people to cut and mount the frags once collected than it is to hand deliver hundreds of concrete blocks to a farm/grow out site.

It is great that naturalist and the industrialist are working together after all the industrialist is in fact according to archaeology the masculine naturalist who does love nature so much that they are obsessed with machines like wind mills that they learnt to make from nature. I found out from the Hammer and Sickle symbol and archaeology that Industrialist are masculine naturalist.

To save the environment weird to manufacture more spend more and buy. I suggest we import thousands of Corals from China. The answer to save the environment is never repair what you have don’t buy that you don’t need. Live in a small house

Guess what coral reefs like? Warm water and lots of CO2. That’s because both are essential for coral growth. I’m now wondering where the funding came from for this unnecessary and very expensive activity. I’m thinking its the tax payer because the business paper mentioned climate change 101 times. Why was the the last GBR report withheld from the taxpayer? Because all was well, so best to keep this very quiet.

Guess what coral reefs don’t like - hot and acidic water caused by high atmospheric CO2 levels.
