Cordless Tesla (I Drive 1800 miles without charging) P.1

I built the first ever Cordless Tesla and did a 1600 Mile Road Trip without ever charging the car.
It just made perfect sense to me to adapt a power plant generator to my modified Model S Tesla and do a road trip.
This is the first version of the cordless Tesla which is burning gasoline to charge the car instead of the conventional plug-in charger.
The car not only charges itself while it's sitting and parked but also while driving the entire time.
Just for reference with the mpg number this car is almost 1000 horsepower all wheel drive, I didn't go into those details in the video because I didn't want to make it confusing.
This is not my typical video but I absolutely had to document my progress with my project here and share it with everybody.
To clarify I did have to stop for about 5 to 6 hours a day while the car continued to charge itself back up since it's using more energy driving then it's making.
All of those stops and lack of sleep is one of the reasons I was dead tired for almost the entire trip, some of those days I was so tired I could barely speak.
I also made sure to make a few stops along the way that I thought were pretty cool to make the video more exciting.
I'm curious to hear what everybody thinks in the comments below please don't hesitate to leave your opinion I think you are going to like what I have coming in the near future with this car.
Heres Part 2 of the Cordless Tesla.

Could something like this be done with a Nissan Leaf? I want to modify my leaf to to something similar.
@teardowndan5364
@teardowndan5364 4 дня назад
@@Biblecrusader It can be done with any EV as long as you have the programming tools necessary to bypass safeguards that may get in the way. The physically easiest and safest way would be to re-purpose the AC input by hard-wiring it to the generators but by default, the on-board charger is supposed to force the vehicle into park while active. If you mod the generator for HVDC output, you may need to program various modules so they don't complain that there is a 5-10kW mismatch between the BMS, motor inverter, HVAC system, 12V converter and other HVDC loads. I came to watch the earlier video in the saga to find out exactly how this was hooked up. From the newer diesel video, it looked like he tapped into the HVDC bus since he had DC out. That would be the most efficient way to go. Generator stator re-wired as 300V L-L 3ph -> 3ph rectifier bridge -> maybe an extra protection diode to prevent DC from getting dumped into the generator should one of the bridge diodes fail -> EMI filter -> HVDC, adjust field strength to regulate output current/power as needed. At least that is how I would want to do a BEV to series hybrid conversion.

"Full throttle". That engine would be running at the 3600rpm ( "universal" speed for 60HZ electric motors matched by small gas engines used interchangeably with those motors) that it's designed for full time operation. You would be confusing that with running an engine at high rpm full throttle which it was designed to do only briefly.

@@Iahusha777Iahuah Look at 0:45. That's a standard inverter generator setup. Based on the orange color, location of the fan vent at the top of the shroud, and yellow cap on the oil tube it is very likely a WEN GN875iX open frame inverter generator. Champion and others have similar generators from the same factory, but in different colors. Perhaps the wires were extended to hide the inverter module under the floor panel, although the original wires might even have reached unchanged. The only real modification was that the quiet stock muffler was replaced with the noise-enhancing megaphone muffler. The spring mount, shape, straps and rivets match the "carbon fiber" look mufflers sold on Amazon for $35-$45. From the timeline and screen displays in the video he was pretty clearly only charging while parked. He just plugged in a standard charge cable to the original generator receptacle and used that, without touching the car's software or electronics. My guess is that he dismounted the charging inlet and rotated it to face the trunk interior. Perhaps he used a relay to fake unplugging the cable, or a lever+bracket to unplug the J1772 connector slightly, but he might have simply gone to the back of the car to plug the cable into the repositioned inlet after he parked.

GM made a lot of effort to get the Volt working just right. The ICE was carefully selected to be quiet and efficient whilst producing enough power to keep up with average performance. I feel it is highly likely that this consideration limited the overall performance that resulted, as they didn't want to end up fighting with customers or lawyers. I've always been fascinated by this engineering niche, and it is great to see someone tackle it in such a simplistic way. Clearly a bigger generator is needed, it'll make more power and less noise, and a longer exhaust will be necessary. There seems to be enough room, lets see the next installment.

He’s still having to stop to wait for his generator to charge the car…that being said, cool that you were able to tie in to the HV system.

This should make people appreciate the Outlander PHEV 2023 more. It's basically the same thing, but well refined, and the generator can always keep up with demand.

So, are you limited by the resistors to the batteries or the maximum output of the generator?
