I built a house using this book in 1999, it is an amazing space to live in.

We built our cordwood home in the mountains of West Virginia in 1978 - 1980. It is 30 X 60 with round corners. It has a barn style roof which allows for a second story. We did have problems with some checking so we spent another 3 years installing field stone. We have lived in our cordwood home for over 40 years and enjoyed it very much

Is there a particular type of mortar to be used in cordwood building?

im thinking expanding closed cell foam in the insulating space injected in the bottom and not confined at the top. that would solidify purchase on wood members and seal airspace + cut/ trims with a handsaw. crosscut or rip. garanteed thermal break

Is there a special stain or treatment to put on the wood after you’re done so the sun doesn’t dry and gray it out? (awesome video!!)

stain and waterproof, you could but it might interfear with the moisture transport out of the house stain only probably would not. why not add a porch and prevent fading naturally

Beautiful! Is anyone using aircrete on the face, or stucco over the wood? Granted it might be less esthetic, but no need to worry about wood borers? Aircrete might be a good fill between mortar also?

How does the cordwood wall construction fair in insulating where it gets cold in the winter? I'm mean cold like our Saskatchewan winters generally are. Seeing two week periods of -40°F overnight with strong winds at times and not getting above -20°F for a daytime high?

or closed cell foam the insulating space you know you can make 24" walls if you need right? 5" grout 14" insulation 5" grout= 24" wallwarm
