I wanted another low cost machine to do basic office type work on, so I bought another Core 2 Duo E8400. The performance is more than adequate for my purposes, and they are very cheap on the used market.
Specs:
OS: Windows 10 Pro
Case: Antec VSK-4000
Power Supply: Cooler Master 550 Watt
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R LGA 775
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHZ LGA 775
Memory: 8GB (4 x 4GB) Corsair 2GB 240-Pin DDR2
Storage: 1x Samsung 128GB 470 SSD
1x Western Digital WD1200JD 3.5 inch 120GB Sata HDD 7200 Rpm

I like your style! Using old hardware for a new PC because it fits your needs. We need more people like you on youtube :)

Unlike my friend who knew nothing about pcs and when he switched from console to pc, he bought 2 1080ti's and a pentium...

I had the E8400 CPU in a computer until 2012, and it had very good performance for the money. In fact i would still use it with 8GB of RAM and an SSD if I didn't want to change my computer to play some newer pc games.

+kanopus06 It is surprising how usable this CPU is today for daily tasks. It would indeed be pretty terrible for gaming I'm sure.

+praskieva Computing Now it would be something equivalent of a low end pentium dual core cpu. but 3GHz clock speed, dual core and 6MB of cache was a beast of a cpu back in 2008.

yep,it's great for gaming too.

Just built an E8400 PC for old school '00s gaming and for secondary use here. Intel E8400 (E0 Stepping) @ 3.0GHz CPU Gigabyte EP35-DS3R (Rev. 2.1) motherboard (F4 BIOS) 4x2GB G.Skill PC2-8000 DDR2 SDRAM 2GB Palit GTX 650 GPU Windows XP Pro/8.1 Pro Dual Boot Motherboard's been sitting there on the shelf since the late '00s brand new and sealed. Then at the start of this year (2016) I wondered if it actually worked. One quick trip to eBay later for the E8400, a cooler and a memory stick for just £14 total, stuck it in my Cooler Master Elite 370 old PC case with an EVGA GTX 960 SSC 4GB borrowed from my recent new build and yep, it worked, even with the original F2 BIOS. So I got the rest of the bits from eBay afterwards. Already had a 600W Jeantech Arctic modular PSU, 1TB Seagate HDD, Lite-On DVD drives, Sony floppy drive, Xigmatek Blue LED fans, Scythe Kaze Master KM-01BK Fan Controller & Sound Blaster Audigy 1 (with firewire port) with the Cooler Master case from my old S939 Athlon 64 X2 4800+ build. Also had the ESATA backplate that came with the EP35-DS3R, USB, serial, parallel, MIDI and GPU ventilation backplates to fill in the back, various internal adapters and cables, and a motherboard PC speaker for beep codes. Now I have a secondary system on the cheap that works great! :-)

Darren Johnson-Jane yes. win10 works fine. i added third party video cards. a Nvidia 1050 should be good for you.

Jason Rini Hello Jason. Since the initial build above, I've upgraded the Palit GTX 650 to an EVGA 750 Ti SC (complete with EVGA's 750 Ti backplate). However, I figure a 1050 would be a bit much for just an E8400, but would go better with the likes of a Q6600. Kind of like making a genetically engineered T-Rex for a theme park. Just because you can doesn't mean you should (Oy Rex! Quit being so bitey!) ;-)

Darren Johnson-Jane i figured the 1050ti would be the final upgrade for the system...

i use 3 of these at work, and a quad core at home. 1 of my motherboards failed on windows 10 update so i used only 1 gpu. Ther rest are ok with 2 gb ram.

Surprised that you fumbled with the cpu orientation and then you also fumbled with the ram orientation. You are also flexing the motherboard too much, always do the component insertion on the bench fitted with a rubber sheet top and never on the motherboard box.

sunsys he said the thermal paste was already on there,and whats wrong with being careful not to put the cpu in the wrong way?
@KubusBubusOfficial
@KubusBubusOfficial 2 года назад
There is no Thermal Paste! Your CPU is going to burn! Thermally Conductive Paste Is needed otherwise temperatures will be VERY HIGH What the fuck is going on here?

It's hard to find modern desktop cases. Most are towers these days. If you have a desktop case that's in production today that you recommend let me know.
