Would love to talk to the people at core about how this could be improved. I strongly dislike that the connector was made to be like dtap at all. I want metal locking connectors like Lemo or Fischer wherever possible.
My understanding of the SDI issue has to do with current traveling through the SDI cable and damaging the sensitive signal electronics. This happens when the SDI cable is already connected and then the power cable is connected. There’s an initial surge of current. I’m not sure how this connector will prevent that. I wouldn’t want to test it out on my equipment.
Could we also have the option of just a battery plate that has those connectors? It would be great to be able to continue using our existing batteries so we don’t generate more waste. Or a version of battery plate that also has some battery built-in (like the core battery plate?) so our batteries can be hot swappable.
This looks great! I do have a question though - I have the CORE Battery plate for the Komodo. If I wanted to use the G3 and the PD Lemo 2 pin to eliminate the SDI issue - does the PD 'stop' battery power being received from the plate and ONLY come out of the PD through the Lemo to the camera? I guess I'm confused - If I have the battery inserted into the battery plate, won't the camera pull juice from that as opposed to the Lemo cable to camera?
