Life is heard.
High up, very high up, the lights
Maybe the lights stolen from us
Of the city stolen from us
And the remembering of the last sunset
And the mountains, around, ours.
You exist. You must exist.
Like I can listen to your blond laughter
Behind the splotch walls.
One day, when everything will become known
When will melt, the frozen center of memory
Now, everywhere,
"My testimony, I must remember what I said in my testimony"
And the colors may come back, perhaps.
Once opened the doors of the tombs,
Of the houses, of the prisons, of the laws,
We should count our dead,
We should share our new songs.
One day, you will also learn the rest,
You will also remember.

Μακριά, πολύ μακριά,
ακούγεται η ζωή,
ψηλά πολύ ψηλά λάμπουν τα φώτα
ίσως τα φώτα, που μας έκλεψαν
της πολιτείας που μας έκλεψαν
κι η θύμηση απ’ το τελευταίο λιόγερμα
και τα βουνά, γύρω δικά μας.
Μακριά πολύ μακριά υπάρχεις.
Πρέπει να υπάρχεις,
Σα να μπορώ ν’ αφουγκραστώ το γέλιο σου,
ξανθό, πίσω απ’ τους λεκιασμένους τοίχους.
Κάποτε όλα θα μαθευτούνε
που θ’ αναλιώσει το παγωμένο κέντρο της μνήμης
τώρα, παντού, «η κατάθεσή μου, να θυμάμαι τι είπα στην κατάθεσή μου»
και θα ξανάρθουνε τα χρώματα
ίσως κάποτε που θ’ ανοιχτούν οι πόρτες των τάφων,
των σπιτιών, των φυλακών, των νόμων,
να λογαριάσουμε τους νεκρούς μας,
να μοιραστούμε τα καινούργια μας τραγούδια.
Κάποτε θα μάθεις κι εσύ τα υπόλοιπα
θα θυμηθείς και εσύ
μακριά, πολύ μακριά, είσαι η ζωή,
θα είσαι μακριά
τότε εγώ δε θα υπάρχω.
