Hypnotizing video ! So beautiful !. But how to get to all of these places ? they seemed imagined, like a fantasy story, almost far fetched. Hidden corners of the most magnificent Byzantine art. The music, so varied, oriental, arabic. Thank you Manolis
Thank you Jose. These islands are all easily accessible from the international airport of Rhodes. There are several fast boats per day that link the islands and the average cross is not longer than an hour. The have a huge cultural heritage, from Hippocrates (Kos) and early antiquity, through Byzantine and Medieval times to Ottoman traditions. The music is actually by Ross Dailyn an Irish composer who adopted Crete and lives there for a long time. He studied local and oriental musical traditions.
What memories! I "discovered" this beach back in 1981 while on a long backpacking trip around much of the world. I lived in the cave that is shown near the end of the video for a week after trekking down the hill to the beach...and never saw a single person. I guess it was undiscovered at that time and didn't know the name until many years later when I read about it in a travel book. Amazing memories of my campfire in that cave, cooking food and the sounds of the water rolling up onto the little beach inside. Really nice to see it all again......
We also went to Myrtos in 1981 walking down from the bus stop and later daring to drive a small hire car down the rocky track. Even in July there was only a scattering of people there.
Thanks for viewing. The technique I used in editing is called frame shift. You place the same video in two channels (using Adobe Premiere Elements). One channel is shown on the left, the other, on the right. You then shift one of the channels by a few frames. Because the bus (and the view angle) moves, and because of the frame shift, the two images shown (left and right) are taken at slightly different times from different angles. You can do this with a moving camera or with moving objects (or both) but something has to move horizontally. Some times it is successful, sometimes it is difficult and sometimes impossible. But it is always fun.
Manolis Spanakis Thanks for that, someone told me about this years ago, but I hat totally forgotten about it :-0 Which one goes on the left, which one on the right?
It depends on the movement. The left eye sees the image on the right and vice versa. There is some theory of perception behind but it is quicker to try both and see which solution works; the other certainly does not. The number of frames/ length of time shift also matters. It is all quite empirical. You also have to trim both ends of each sequence so that both channels change sequence at the same time. It may sound complex but usually you obtain acceptable results very quickly.
Thank you Sinthe. I know :-( it is very difficult to keep the (single) camera steady on a moving boat! However, I found this experiment worth watching for the few moments when the 3D effect works. Glad you liked it.
Really really good video, although very little from urban areas in Tehran. Some images from Siosepol (Isfahan), ski resorts such as Dizin and Shemshak and northern seasides would make it absolutely stunning.
Myrtos beach is absolutely beautiful and like all beaches, beautiful or not, it is about sand land water so apart from a video tour of the taverna what does anybody expect? I have been to Kephalonia many times and it is a wonderful island and Myrtos, as well as nearby Assos are two of the prettiest and most dramatic places. In fact, the beach is not sandy but consists of tiny white stones worn from the limestone cliffs and the water is a clear turquoise but with an undertow that requires care.
Angie, thank you for your support. It is true that the opinions are divided as to the quality of the video, if you see the likes/dislikes ratio and the other comments below. I understand that Don's comparison of Myrtos with his home beach refers to my ability to convincingly show the beauty of this beach through this video rather than to claim that Myrtos is not any better than his home sands and waters. Best regards to both of you.
a small taste of what we call greek beauty ! the sea , the waves , the sunset ... mixed colors ...mixed feelings ! it is like traveling in an other world . Absolutely amazing . I wish we could stand our ground and do sth radical to prove to people that Greece is not synonymous to corruption and fraud but it really is a country with history and marvellous sceneries to be proud of .
