Never terminate on an outside corner. Also don't use direct flash. It's very unflattering.

I have a few questions: Can you install glue-down cork on painted drywall, or is some kind of prep needed? Also, do the tiles need a polyurethane finish (to prevent curling, etc.)?
@JelinekCork
@JelinekCork 8 лет назад
+Catherine Nguyen Thanks for your questions. If you are installing glue-down cork flooring on your walls, you can follow the same instructions as installation for cork wall tiles. Here is a written guide you can also use: www.corkstore.com/site/pdf/Jelinek-Cork-Wall-Tile-Install-Instructions_WEB.pdf When installing on your walls, make sure the surface is as smooth as possible for optimal adhesion. Since you are installing on drywall, make sure its primed or painted and fully cured. The cork wall tiles (specifically for walls) do not need to be treated. If you are installing cork floor tiles on your wall, it is up to you. If you were installing these on your floor, for sure you should treat them with a polyurethane or wax finish (helps protect them as they are being walked on). For your walls, they don't need the same level of protection so you can leave them if you wish. I hope this helps answer your questions but feel free to contact us cork@jelinek.com if you have more questions.

Thanks for the info and quick reply! Your PDF is very clear and helpful. Our walls are primed and painted and fully cured. Some guidance I got was that I would need to re-prime my walls (which didn't make sense...primer and paint are pretty much the same in this situation), and that the polyurethane is supposedly to prevent tiles from curling. But it was difficult to find clear-cut information on this on the web...

I live in an apartment and would like to try to keep my security deposit but I'd also like to not have conversations with my neighbors while in bed. I am curious, if I put a layer of removable wallpaper down first would that still stick with the cork? I'm just looking for an easy removal.
@JelinekCork
@JelinekCork 2 года назад
Hi. The cork adhered to removable wallpaper may be too heavy so the wallpaper may not stay attached to the wall. We typically recommend adhering the cork to plywood and then attaching the plywood to the wall (with screws) if you'd like a removable option.

@@JelinekCork Or ...couldn't apartment dwellers just use command strips to adhere the boards to a wall temporarily?
@JelinekCork
@JelinekCork 2 года назад
@@justRoRo This may work depending how much weight the strips can hold.
@justRoRo
@justRoRo 2 года назад
@@JelinekCork right 👍🏾 there are command strips for various weights and even those designed for heavier art and pictures. Unless each panel is 10+ pounds, I think it's the perfect renter-friendly solution!!!

Can these be used for bathroom walls? If so is any special surface coating or maintenance required?
@JelinekCork
@JelinekCork 3 года назад
Cork wall tiles are not recommended where the humidity changes excessively or in high moisture areas. The reason is that frequent expansion/contraction can cause the tiles to separate to the point where the seams between the tiles are very visible. So choosing cork wall tiles for your bathroom will depend on the humidity change that occurs in the room. In terms of the finish, most of the wall tiles have a light wax coating which seals and protects the cork. An alternative wall covering that can be used is Jelinek Cork Mosaic tiles - www.corkstore.com/Products/Jelinek-Cork-Mosaic-Wall If you have more questions, we're happy to help - you can reach us via email cork@jelinek.com or else give us a call. @@JelinekCork Besides a bit of price shock, how would Aquacork fare on bathroom walls (not shower)?
@JelinekCork
@JelinekCork 3 года назад
@@edbouhl3100 The higher density of AquaCork allows it to be more stable through expansion and contraction phases so it should work well.

Do I have to use spacers between tiles, or at the edges?
@JelinekCork
@JelinekCork 2 года назад
No, spacers are not needed however the tiles need to acclimate prior to installation and then when installing the tiles need to fit snug but not too tightly together, this will leave room for expansion and contraction. Here is a written installation guide for reference: www.corkstore.com/site/pdf/Jelinek-Cork-Wall-Tile-Install-Instructions_WEB.pdf If you have other questions, you can also contact us via email: cork@jelinek.com

*I heard this is good for sound blocking as a sound barrier some test have proved this theory greatly what is the pricing per foot or roll*
@JelinekCork
@JelinekCork 5 лет назад
Yes - cork is a natural insulator against sounds. Cork helps lessen sound transmission and the thicker the cork wall tiles, the more it will help (for example, the 1/2" thick wall tiles would be more insulative than the 1/8" thick tiles). There are other variables that influence this as well including the makeup of the wall. If you would like to discuss some options in more detail, please contact our customer service department directly. They will be happy to talk through this with you. You can reach us via email cork@jelinek.com or else give us a call. You can find our contact information on our website: www.jelinek.com/contact-us/ Pricing for our cork wall coverings can be found online: www.corkstore.com/Products/Wall-and-Ceiling-Coverings Thank you!

Can they be applied directly over brick?
@JelinekCork
@JelinekCork 3 года назад
If installing over brick, it is recommended to use a smoother backer such as primed drywall or plywood rather than installing directly to the brick. We typically recommend installing the cork wall tiles on a smoother, more even surface as the larger gaps found in brick walls may lead to damaged tiles and/or tiles that haven't adhered correctly to the wall. Here is a printable guide to help with installation: www.corkstore.com/site/pdf/Jelinek-Cork-Wall-Tile-Install-Instructions_WEB.pdf

Can cork be glued directly onto breeze blocks ?
@JelinekCork
@JelinekCork 4 года назад
For cork we recommend using a water-based contact cement however we do not have experience adhering cork to breeze blocks. If it is something you want to try we recommend trying a small area first to see if it adheres the way you like.

Hi does cork stop noise from Noisy neighbours on the other side?
@JelinekCork
@JelinekCork 4 года назад
Hi. Cork is a natural insulator against sound so it will help lessen sound transmission. This is one of the many beneficial properties of cork. The thicker the cork, the more it will help (for example, the 1/2" thick wall tiles would be more insulative than the 1/8" thick tiles). There are, however, other variables such as the makeup of the wall that also influence sound transmission. So though it would not stop noise, it would help dampen it. If you would like to discuss this in greater detail, you can reach us via email cork@jelinek.com or else give us a call. @JelinekCork

We recommend the cork tiles acclimatize in the room where they'll be installed out of their packaging for at least this long, 72 hours is preferable.

How thick would wall tiles need to be to dull the sound from a neighbour's television next door?
@JelinekCork
@JelinekCork 7 лет назад
Cork will help lessen sound transmission and the thicker the cork wall tiles, the more it will help (for example, the 1/2" thick wall tiles would be more insulative than the 1/8" thick tiles). Having said this, there are other variables that come into play also - including the makeup of the wall. So we can't provide an actual thickness that works for everyone. You can also take a look here: www.corkstore.co.uk/cork-wall--ceiling-coverings-9-c.asp -- probably the acoustic cork wall tiles or the Insulation Cork Wall Tiles would be what you are looking for. Note: There will still be sound transmission, it will just help dampen it.

Will this stick on a concrete wall?
@JelinekCork
@JelinekCork 6 лет назад
Thank you for your question. Cork wall tiles can be installed directly to a concrete wall however make sure the surface is as smooth as possible and free of any dust or debris for optimal adhesion. If this is freshly poured concrete, also be sure it is fully cured as any water/wet residue will cause the cork to not adhere to the wall. Here is a written guide to help with installation: www.corkstore.com/site/pdf/Jelinek-Cork-Wall-Tile-Install-Instructions_WEB.pdf I hope this helps answer your question but feel free to contact us cork@jelinek.com if you have more questions.
