@@darrel7589 there’s not many artist who actually move units these days. Some of the artist with the big radio (Pop) hits are only selling 28K first week with a major label behind them. Nas was a very big deal in the industry if you don’t listen to him or like him just say that. Numbers have never been a metric of whose a good artist that man is about to sell out a show at Madison square Garden.

They talking about Nas doesn’t speak to the younger generation and that he’s talking to dudes around their age, but I’m a young dude myself and is part of this generation, born in 1999 to be exact, and when I listen to Nas, I picture Nas actually spitting gems to me in person as a young homie listening to a OG. Especially since I’m an aspiring lyricist who loves hip hop in general I look for artists like Nas & Jay for influence and inspiration, even Cole & Kendrick. I don’t listen to none of these mumble rappers that’s being hyped 24/7 because I don’t find any inspiration from it and it’s all repetitive and no originality and no creativity in it. When I listen to music, mainly rap I like to listen to words being presented because I like to have a picture in my mind of what the artist is talking about , which is why I like storytelling and I think Nas excels in that, which is why “It Was Written” is my fave Nas album because of it.

@Hideotic
@Hideotic Год назад
I disagree. I think what he’s trying to say is if some company is getting big and they’re getting more visits than a landmark. Something can happen that exposes the integrity of the hot business and it could go from number 1 to extinct. But a landmark is always going to be a huge piece of history that has an effect on the society and world to this day. Even if people aren’t visiting that landmark or don’t know about it; it still exists in their culture.

Love when he said we back to 💯 because I've been a Nas fan since One on One off the Street Fighter soundtrack I've been saying he's the best for over 25 yrs & when I first started hearing Cormega on the Dj Clues Doo Woop Tony Touch Stretch & Armstrong mix tape days he was dope to me the Firm records with Mega I was fan but when their beef started & both of them was moving & carrying it with some petty bs I was in a bond. Hated the beef I couldn't bare to listen to them taking shots at each other & as a fan I hated how we lost the chance to hear some incredible music from these legends although we had to endure almost two decades of them not recording together I'm good with that knowing they have their brother hood back the music is cool but I'm more happy with knowing these two Kings have a brotherhood again that's more important than the music.

@@thdoom81 Yes we owned Hip hop, the creation of it, wether it's sampled or not, a pattern of sound was created which carried the black mans vocals in rhyme form like no other genre. Blacks are responsible for 95 percent of the genres we have today, blacks are responsible for many of the instruments in music today, instruments that were created by Africans and brought over by the diaspora which got replicated. So since blacks created music we know of today, then the music that was sampled in earlier hip hop, we have as much stake in the claim of its ownership as it was birthed from our ancestors. Nas has surpassed anything he did back in the day in terms of his skills. I saw him perform with DJ Green Lantern in Germany in 2014. He rhymed flawlessly. 30 years ago, I was in college when cats were talking about this dude on campus! Nas was already famous in Rochester, New York due to the Live at the BBQ verse in 91. Let's not even mention the legendary status of Illmatic and his subsequent classics. As of today, Nas has adapted well to the so called new style of rap. He's taken it, flipped it and done something completely original like he always does. Dude remains untouchable style wise. I can see him doing Broadway like Springsteen as the years move on. Heck, Cormega is right. Nas is a Landmark. NAS is BROADWAY! Peace.

Hey, fellas! Glad y'all are back, especially you, Hynaken. It's always nice to see you, Cory (Cormega). Nah, let's get down to business. So ageism... Well, that's something that will never change. EVERYBODY faces it. Hear me out. The industry has to keep things fresh and new for generations to come. Labels cain't give hella '80s rappers that carryover to every generation because again, they have to keep things fresh and new for generations to come. It sucks, but that's just the way it is. Why do you think they give artists 3 - 5 (10 if they're lucky) years to be in the mainstream? The label chews them up, spits them out and moves right on the next one. Basically, what I'm tryna say is that you cain't just have Nasir and Redman lingering around for decades (in the mainstream) because these kids (who are the main consumers) want more relatable and younger artists. Let's face it, today's 13 year old consumers ain't listening to Nasir all like that. They're just not. When I was 13, I wasn't necessarily listening to every single '80s pioneer all day everyday. Anyway, the label done swindled the artist outta all they money so by the time they finally realize it and start asking questions, that's when the umbrella label start to curiously dissolve and they kick the artist to the curb like a redhead stepchild. When Mr. Michael Jackson came out w/ 2001's _Invincible,_ were young TRL consumers really checkin' for his new music? When Sharde released 2000's _Lovers Rock,_ she performed on BET's _106 & Park_ and she literally put them kids to sleep. The disrespect is what concerns me. See, white artists get aged out gracefully. White folks ain't callin' Madonna Ciccone old, washed up, irrelevant, etcetera. Ms. Bonnie Raitt just released a new LP and she was nominated for an AMA. She's 73 years old. Ain't nobody in the white community told her that she's too old and irrelevant. In the black community, that's the norm. Older black artists simply need to expect disrespect, especially nowadays.

I totally agree with Cormega on this. The Realness 2 is definitely an album worth checking out.

Born in '73, heard Nas in '94 for the first time, and Mega's right: Nas' part of my rap's landmark, as DMC, Kool G Rap, PE, Moe Dee, Gangstarr, Wu .... And I'm agree, happy these two ones are close, they'll make great things again!
