For the record the molding lines are technically called parting lines.

Good video thanks. Is there a way to replace the wood insert at the bottom of the bowl and replace it with a deeper one then drill directly into it IE a briar pipe? This would eliminate that wood insert that burns off in time.

I cover that sort of process in the second video in these series on pipe mud: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BFp7LHByWzY.html The basic idea is you remove the wood insert and replace it with pipe mud. I have considered a briar or other wood insert, but you would need some sophisticated tooling or jigs to get the insert to fit and the drilling right. I might try that on a future cob modification, so stay tuned :) Be well, Mike.

Came out great Mike, try using electrical tape rather them painters tape, it will stand up much better and tends to "reflect" files snd sandpaper much better.
