The MDA Labor Day Telethon was an enchanting yearly variety show that ran for half a century. Hosted for many years by Jerry Lewis, the telethon featured top stars from the world of music, comedy, and Broadway and was like no other show on earth.

Jerry is 54 years old in this clip. I can't recall him ever showing such energy in any MDA performance. I wonder if Cornell was aware of what Jerry was going to do. Cornell was shot by an unknown gunman in Las Vegas 9 years after this.

I grew up watching the MDA telethon every Labor Day and loved seeing Jerry ham it up with so many of the stars he was able to book on the show. SO silly, but all for such a good cause.

I'm sure he was. So? In the classroom video they shot, Gunther basically comes out by cutting that step. A straight man don't dance like that!

@@Usalivestreamtv I lived back then. White kids would go to black "juke joints" or "jive joints". Girls would dance like that. Guys would try to mimic their moves to get their attention. And of course it would be over the top. Girls would try not to laugh. They'd just stare at you. If a girl did laugh, that meant she liked you. If she gave you permission to buy her a drink, then you weren't allowed talk to another girl for the rest of the evening. I never did do that myself. It was a "black thing". But I brought my guitar and sat in. Always made to feel welcome. Between sets a brother might say, "show me that lick". I wasn't very old at the time.
