Brightening up old black and white images in color is the trend and then immediately adding appropriate music. But these film images are only accompanied by natural sounds of seagulls. That is a relief, thanks! As if we were entering a time capsule. To know that none of those children is alive is saddening...

Meanwhile just across the water, thousands of boys from these same villages were being cut to ribbons by German machine guns... I bet their last thoughts were of a different din. Not of cries and bombs, but of Gulls and crashing waves... and whispers in a lovers ear. Final moments spent longing for this sweet yet salty serenity. RIP My Great Grandfather Cpl William Barrows 13126 6th Bn Oxford and Bucks Light infantry. Killed on the 2nd of June of the same year this was filmed, on the first day of The Battle of Mont Sorrel, whilst trying to get a line to a pocket of stranded Canadians. He now lies next to his friend Arthur Coke Thomas, and the brave Canadians at The Bedford House Cemetery Belgium. Rest in peace all these brave lions of men... We shall not forget, nor shall we ever surrender the freedoms they died for. ⚔️

Both my grandparents were born in Truro around this time and lived in Falmouth then moved to South Africa. I always heard about Cornwall and my Gran always made Cornish Pastries. Anyone else notice the cameraman filming as the Cornish luggers were heading out to fish? Incredible to think how being the second most exposed piece of coastline in britain and with our renowned winter and spring storms battering out coast and how the seas around our cornwall can change so fast, how brave our ancestors were as they rowed out from out harbours! No motors to quickly head in again....

How the **** can there be three dislikes on this wonderful old footage? OK, I can understand someone not being too interested, moving on without leaving a like, but to take the time to leave a thumbs down just mystifies me. Could the seagulls have annoyed three folk that much?😁 I can't be certain but I'm pretty sure these were not 1916 seagulls. If they are a later addition, maybe they should be sent to whereever seagulls get sent.😁 Other than the gulls, this was some fantastic footage and was probably some cutting edge stuff at the time. The camera was getting some mighty suspicious looks. Of course, filming a load of kids in a Cornish village today would probably get you 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 than looks. Great piece of film; thanks for sharing it.👍👌😁 Cheers for now, Dougie. P.S. Good work with the colour too.
