I took one of those DNA tests a couple years ago, and I was somewhat surprised by the results. I was less Irish than expected, but more Italian. I had 0 Scandinavian even though my grandmother was Swedish. My guess is that my ancestors moved around Europe quite a bit, and so even if my ancestors had occupied a certain place for generations, their genetic origins were elsewhere. I do like family history and DNA tests. I discovered that I was, latest estimate, 16% Irish and 30 % Irish, and I didn't know I had any Irish or Scottish ancestry at all, although I later found an immigrant from Belfast in my family tree, and as one of my relatives said "Didn't your father once say he had a great-grandfather who came from Scotland by way of Nova Scotia? A man with a drinking problem?", and yes, I sort of found him too (although nothing about a drinking problem), and I had difficulty figuring out which Scottish immigrant he was out of a large number of them in the same area with the same name. But no doubt that explains my love of traditional Irish music and good shortbread. The rest of my ancestry is mostly English if you go back far enough to find ancestors who were actually in England at some point in their lives and not in the Colonies, and even some Scandinavian genes that I blame on ancient Vikings.

If you try something out of the Netherlands, try a roze koek (pink cookie). It's my favorite thing from the bakery. But please make sure it's actually from a bakery, the supermarket ones are not that good

I really like the long-form content you’ve done! This was really fun, it would be neat to see more (ancestry or no). Around the World in Desserts would be cool, too.
