Its an Irish thing. I'm from an Irish family and my nan and grandad always called my mum, aunts and uncles by their full names and if anyone shortened it they were corrected
The Ruined Jims Character. At 1 stage he was Hardworking and well liked. He was working and Running the Garage he took Tyrone under his wing and was teaching him about Cars. He protected Steve from ever being Hurt by Jez Quigley again which was his downfall and then it went from bad to worse
Can’t help feeling that the McDonalds have had their day sometimes. In the early years, Jim & Liz’s fiery rows were reminiscent of Len & Rita. Then they just turned Liz into a silly snapper. Steve’s storylines mostly arise from his on/off/on again relationships. Are Jim’s little catchphrases written into the script, or did Charlie devise and include them himself, I wonder! They’re good strong characters with the right storylines, but sometimes it seems they bring Jim back when the ratings are flagging a bit. Simon’s said it’s strange he’s been Steve longer than Simon now lol. They should reintroduce Andy.
Jim was always so clueless about nobody wanting him around. He didn’t care anyways, he’d stick around anyways. He’d use the same line all the time; “just hear me out” … and yet he’d expect to always be welcomed back with open arms, and get angry or upset when he wasn’t. Like I said, he was clueless.
They need to stop bringing Jim back every few months like some kind of pantomine villain. Every time I hear that Irish accent I’m thinking, oh here we go, the writers have run out of ideas again.
