A time when British TV was at a golden age. Thanks for uploading these. I can’t tell you how much enjoyment and comfort I get from watching these Corrie episodes. 1990-1995 is one of my favourite periods of time for Coronation Street ✨
The late 80s to late 90s was the a golden age for UK🇬🇧 TV 📺 Coronation Street EastEnders Emmerdale Were all great in this era, Also Show's like Boon Inspector Morse The Bill Bird's Of A feather Keeping Up appearances Mr Bean, And so many more show's
Absolutely he was ! I hate the way soaps destroy a characters personality when they want to leave they still do it today it’s shabby after tears if commitment!
Thanks so much for uploading these older episodes - I totally agree with the other comments about how much better the writing was then - there was humour, drama and tears all wrapped up in amazing characters. Please please keep them coming … they’re fantastic 🥰🥰 Ps - it’s great the way you’ve batched the episodes in monthly blocks too!
34:40 - Nicky Tilsley starts secondary school and who makes an appearance as his first 'big school' pal: Mark Redman, son of Mike Baldwin. But Mark was a full two years younger than Nicky, and if Corrie writers had good enough memories, was only born in 1983 - meaning he should (in 1992) still only be 9 years old, and not yet at secondary school! But they seem to have altered his age to hurry him into stories that will affect Mike and Ken, and continue the feud.
It's annoying to watch, from August he was disregarding everything Bet said and felt. The way he speaks about the place she loves....😞😞It's quarter past midnight and I'm here shouting at 35 years ago
Exactly. He rides roughshod over others ' feelings and always misjudges them - the way he judged how Vicky was behaving with Steve was a perfect example of this. He continuously disbelieves Bet and is always accusing her of lying. He never learns from his own poor behavior and enormous mistakes. At best he'll say "sorry IF I upset you." Such a horrid man.
He was a detestable piece of work who viewed everybody around him with contempt. As Bet would point out upon his return three years later, that he saw others as nothing more than opportunities to take advantage of. Only his love for Bet and Vicky made he somewhat bearable but the man who self-centered, arrogant and untrustworthy as we find out after he's left that he was fiddling the books leaving Bet shocked and humiliated when it came to light.
I just love Corrie ! I’m addicted to these older ‘ versions . I’m finding it hard watching the new ones ….:( just not the same ., thank you for screening all these episodes., just lovely ❤️
You’re very welcome Heather - I completely agree! In fact I just accidentally caught 20 minutes of the modern day one.. Ken, Rita, Audrey & Gail were all in it looking very old obviously.. but my god, the writing is so dull, no wit, no humour, no spark whatsoever! It’s dreadful! I didn’t finish the episode lol!
Totally agree. The humor and storytelling was so good in these older years. That’s why these are the iconic Corrie characters. Now it’s just about churning out episdoes. Please keep these wonderful episodes coming! 🤩
It's odd to me that Rita still wears that bronze coloured, shiny coat all the time. She was wearing that when Alan Bradley went under that tram, several years ago. You'd think she might have ditched and replaced it on that basis alone.
Hi evehenlyspread, n everyone one else. Thanks ever so much for this. I came across this, beginning of this year, n have to admit, I've been binge-watching. It is so addictive.. Anyways, I have so many things I'd have like to have said since I started watching, but have kept my cool . However I cannot help myself, but wonder, if most folks in corie are DEAF!!(?) ... There's Curly, the Websters, the MacDonalds, the Duckworths, Gail, etc etc... This is just an observation......... Having said that, m amusing meself. Again thank you evehenlyspread. Yr Awe-blood-some 🙌
@ginagina9720. Shame about who Tommy's father is. What was a nice well brought up girl like Lisa from a good background doing with a scumbag like Terry.
Thanks for sharing these videos. I watch nearly every day and Coronation Street was so powerful back then. I gave up on modern day Corrie a couple of months ago. I might be going crazy here but I think 2 of this months episodes got mixed up. One started with Vera scolding Jack over getting a parking ticket. I thought we had missed an episode. Then the scene of him getting fined as in the next episode.
I think you’re possibly right, I remember cocking up one of the ‘92 videos (I’ve also done it with Jan 2000 if you get that far)… that’s what happens when you rush it, I was going at 100mph for a while there when throwing these videos together! I’m glad you’re still enjoying them despite the ridiculous amount of adverts that are now on them which obvs I have no say on! Thanks for the feedback! 😉
@@EveHenleySpread I have RU-vid Premium so I avoid ads luckily. Thanks again for your efforts. I really enjoy watching an episode or 2 every day. Interesting episode today where the brewery installed a new cash register. Interesting because they used terms like "online", "cashless society" and "big brother is watching". Sounded more like modern day speech than early 90s.
Oh it never occurred to me that people might actually pay for premium! I suppose it’s worth it if you make use of it - the ads are really starting to bug me now, having to skip through two lots every ten minutes is overkill. Ah yes you’re right… ahead of its time was Corrie 😉
The only time I liked her was when she was part of that duo with Suzy Birchall living with Elsie at No11.. as soon as she met Brian, her character changed over night!
when she got with Martin she got waaaay worse, she went from miserable angry Gail to this weird childlike Gail that needed to never be on our screens 😂
@@youtubehatesus2651oh no !!making Jack and Vera Rovers landlords was a joke . It didn't suit the characters. That was a bad period after Bet left and before Producer Brian Park arrived and eventually moved them back to number 9.
Thanks again for these wonderful episodes, l am loving it. Just wondering how many years do the seasons go up to? I am hoping they go up to the 2000’s. ❤️
Rita did quite nicely from her ex husbands. Len left her a newsagents and Ted left her a lot of cash and a house. The clapped out chorus girl did good!
I dunno, people and wills… there’s always someone with the hump… if they ain’t squabbling over grandmas tea spoons or pennies specifically given… there’s some greedy burger who thinks they deserve something for nothing.
Great month for Corrie. A temporary goodbye to slimy but amusing Alec Gilroy, and a permanent goodbye to dull and wooden Ted 'Sir Lancelot ' Sullivan. How Rita did not get splinters kissing him I'll never know. New arrivals: Tommy Duckworth and Little Miss Perfect -turned-Babysitter from Hell Carmel, Corrie's own version of Fatal Attraction. I think she was only in it for about six months, but what a ride!
@@gilliangrant8764 She probably didn't fancy him like she did Len and Alan. But when you're an older woman who happens to be single you can't be fussy as it gets harder to attract studs.
Don't think Gail has ever been anything but cringy those cheeks chipmunk style puff out wen she's angry then her no lipped chops giggling ohh Martin thwy shouldered her back then soooo irritating
This gives (a somewhat) better understanding of what would transpire three years later when Bet upped and left. As an employee of "Newton & Ridley" it would have been unlikely that she saved up the money that they were asking for when they were selling the Rovers Return which was around 68000 pounds. For her to have cough up that amount, she would have to put away over 20000 pounds per year which even on a manager's salary would have been impossible. She might have applied for loan from the bank but whether she would have gotten enough is another question altogether. That said, the sale that Alec made when he sold the Rovers back to "Newton & Ridley". Surely Bet (as his wife) was entitled to some of that. But knowing Alec, it wouldn't surprise me if he kept the majority (if not) all of the funds from that sale.
@@TheGlassman63 technically, yes. But from all we know about the character and history of Bet, leaving was never going to be an option, and Alec would have realised that if he wasn't deliberately being so selfish.
Not buying the “i didn’t want a penny” act from Rita she’s been money mad since ‘76 later she uses the money to “buy” Sally. A young Butch Dingle playing dibble with Jack.
It seems like Alec did so much work to get the Rovers, this new job change comes as a shock. He and Bet wouldn't be together much anyway, with him away so much on the cruise ships. But I guess it's a good way to write him off the show. Surprise at what he was really doing, and why he scampered off.
Oh god the “Carmel times” I loathed this storyline at the time and may have to skip this entire era - altho this is more my time I miss the late 70s early 80s corrie and I find myself still missing Hilda Elsie
A comment on the sequence of episodes this month. Why would Gail agree to let Ivy babysit the kids after she brought her home drunk from the pub? Then further on bring the whole issue up as a concern? This had me scratching my head so I think the episodes are out of sequence.
Yep sorry Paula, I think it’s the one and only time I’ve done that - it’s been mentioned by others in the comments once or twice! That’s what happens when you rush it!
Does anyone ever understand a word those children say? I've never understood one word Sarah Lousie said until she was 13 and being played by Tina O'Brien. I just don't understand these episodes. Ivy gets drunk once in the pub and all of a sudden she's no good to baby sit her own grandchildren. Weird but I know it's to introduce the crazy nurse and shake up the show a little bit.
19:30 - 19:58 Julie Goodyear trying her best to squeeze at least one tear out. Wouldn't be surprised if she shat herself trying to act during that scene!
I disagree. Phillip Brooks just wanted what he and his wife were morally entitled to. Rita should have been more reasonable. At the very least she should have donated most of the cash to the hospice. Her greed was obvious. It wasn’t as if she was on the breadline or had any responsibilities.
@@chrissywales6575 I’m not sure about that. Rita had no intention of giving more. Her greed is obvious. Perhaps Philip Brooks could have been more tactful but he was entitled to more.
@@spartybrearly7221 Philip Brooks was exactly like Alan Bradley. Both those men hated Rita and wanted to make her life a living hell, Philip's spite was clearly the level to Alan. Rita would have been given the inheritance if it wasn't for the bad influence Philip clearly made out of himself.
Parents like Kimberlys should be banned from adopting kids! Poor Kim could have been a much more happier & gregarious person! And not a Victorian spinster! Curly must see that Kim will turn out just like her mother & he, after years of being ground down will be growing tomatoes in grow bags in his backyard! Lol He must have chucked Kim or vice versa as he later got engaged to Raquel, who dumped him just before their wedding to fly to The Philipines for a job! After that i dont know what Curleys love life! I stopped watching in 2000 when the vile Battersbys moved into the street By then Corrie was on its last legs & was boring & dismal! At least i have a few years to go on these oldies Ive enjoyed everyone of these Corries, Thank you to E.H.S. your hard work & dedication is greatly appreciated! ❤ Regards 🇬🇧👧
I'm a 90s baby going through all these old episodes. I just wanted to say that I enjoy reading your comments, they make me laugh and teach me things I never knew so thank you for taking the time x
Bet’s not entirely correct. Newton and Ridley did buy the pub, although Bet made a choice to stop on as manager. Not a shrewd move on the part of the brewery. She spends more time relaxing in the living room than actually doing any work.
4:02:14 An early mention on "online" and "modem"... which just goes to show how the show was, and continues to this day, to adapt to the changing times... It makes me laugh when state the obvious that the show has differences now to back in the 1960s, or whatever... Well, I'm very glad it keeps changing, because the world we live in keeps changing... They can't do Coronation Street now in the way it was portrayed in the 1960s, or even the 1990s, because of the advances in technology, fashion, etc... Coronation Street made in the 2020s should, and is, set in the 2020s... hence the increase in stories centred around more contemporary issues such as social media, drones, online dating, online businesses, shopping, etc... Being true to life, it also cannot be set in a world where there are no unemployment issues, no crime rates, and the Manchester bombings never happened. Coronation Street has been part of television culture for nearly 64 years now, and, as long as it keeps evolving, always will be. Hats off to it! 🌟
