Ontario Premier Doug Ford said on Tuesday the list of businesses deemed as essential and will be allowed to remain open after 11:59 p.m. EST on Tuesday was something that could be adjusted as needed.
Ford announced on Monday that all non-essential businesses must close effective Tuesday night, but had advised his government would give more detail on which businesses would be deemed essential and released its list of essential businesses Monday night, including grocery stores, the LCBO and pharmacies.
The premier also addressed ongoing concerns regarding personal protective equipment shortages, saying that various manufacturers have been "stepping up" to provide more personal protective equipment to supply medical workers, including those manufactures that normally don't make the equipment. Health Minister Christine Elliott also stressed they had the supplies to help frontline workers but appreciate any additional help people or the private sector are able to provide.
On Tuesday, the government also announced the province would be switching to off-peak time billing electricity rates 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the next 45 days, saying it will help those who are working from home, and that farms and small businesses will also be eligible for these rates.

Right? I'm all for the social distancing, but as soon as I get to my 'essential' workplace that's nearly impossible to do. Not to mention co-workers having to touch the same objects as one another, it's unrealistic to wipe certain things down after every single touch.

I have that same question.. How is making roof liners for a car manufacturer considered "essential"? Who is buying new vehicles? I thought we were suppose to stay 6 feet apart from each other!! Don't get me wrong, I glad to be going to work, I'm just confused.

Yes under normal circumstances people don't want to lose jobs but everyone is scared rightfully of corona virus and people are very upset that construction and other non-essential workers are still forced to work. I used to be a conservative voter but he lost my vote and many others by showing that he only cares about our greedy bosses who don't want to lose profit.

Everyone is asked to make sacrifices except Banks. The economy could withstand this crisis if banks and other financial institutions were told to "Pause" all loan and mortgage payments as well as interest for 90 days... and legally freeze rent payments for the same duration. Canadians could probably weather the storm if all they had to worry about was food and maybe utilities.

So everything is essential. Also why are banks offering to defer mortgages and loans but rolling up interest into principal. Thus making money off of the situation we as a nation are faced with. Being on a list for supplies, does not mean we have enough supplies.

IT HAS BEEN OVER A WEEK IN OUR SMALL CITY. WE HAVE NOTICED ALL ESSENTIAL EMERGENCY VEHICLES SILENCE THEIR SIRENS. WE HAVE NOT HEARD ANY AMBULANCE, POLICE, OR FIRE TRUCKS RESPONDING WITH AUDIBLE SIRENS... ONLY LIGHTS ARE FLASHING DURING RESPONSE. VERY UNUSUAL AND UNNERVING.

The point of the siren is to warn drivers and pedestrians from a distance that an emergency vehicle is coming so they can get out of the way preemptively and allow the emergency vehicle to get from point A to point B as fast as possible. I'm guessing there are few people out on the roads and in the streets given the situation, since people should be home if they can be anyway, so they don't need to use sirens?

If evictions are postponed and mortgages are deferred, i keep asking myself if this goes on for months what happens when this is all over? I presume everyone's debt is not just getting wiped clean. Even if people have some protection while this is happening, the bill is just racking up with no money coming in. Not to mention all the business facing the same problem. So people will not only lose their homes but also very likely be out of a job. That's also assuming people even receive these promised protections, I keep hearing more and more reports of people 'not being applicable' for deferrals or landlords ignoring the current guidelines

How many Canadians realize construction is the leading employer in Canada?? This tax revenue is paramount to keep this country afloat. These workers are making a huge sacrifice in order for the government to provide these social assistance programs to help through these tragic times. Please understand the truth why these men and women on these sites are essential workers.

How are car rentals companies essential? My husband’s job is in car rental and they are hardly having anyone rent in the last few weeks. It’s dropped so low they laid off 40 people across various branches and have cut my husband’s hours. He doesn’t even really have work to do during the 3 days a week he’s there but because it’s deemed essential he has to keep going into a tiny office with no air circulation and risking bringing something home to me who is immune compromised

He is requesting people not to travel. Yet RV companies and service are essential businesses to stay open. How is that deterring people not to travel, especially with snowbird returning expecting to drop off their RV on their way to quarantine, the employees are expected to enter these RVs when they could be contaminated. This is utter nonsense. Our governments are failing us, its all about money.....

Me and my family are being forced to stay out of the home during a time we are all told to stay inside. They are spraying our place for bed bugs for the second time. We are NOT the source of the bed bugs that would be the hoarders next door. Yesterday when I tried to explain to the management company where are we supposed to go arent we all supposed to stay inside they replied too bad the spraying needs to get done. York management property in London Ontario is not following protocol.

Regardless of where you work if your immune system is compromised you should be told to stay home. If you care for someone with a compromised immune system you should be told to stay home. The government is leaving these decisions to corporate tools who only care about the bottom line. Most workplaces are not designed for social distancing and those in charge are completely oblivious to it.

Note Meals on Wheels volunteers are in the high risk category, their kindness is appreciated, however if they get sick they are likely to become critically ill. Would they meet the criteria for ventilators when it comes to triage. Why increase the burden on the health care system, younger people out of work could do this job and save the elderly volunteers a horrible disease. Being a hero is wonderful but putting yourself in harms way is not wise.

People even bought up the dust masks that won't keep them safe, they don't have enough layers to keep germs out. It will be like not wearing one except to keep out dust and bugs flying into their mouth. Wear a scarf & wash it once home, with gloves and wipe door knobs and everything you touch coming into the home. I even wash my hands with the gloves on with disinfectant soap and reuse them. I even wear gloves to answer my door for deliveries and use a disinfectant wipe on the package, and wipe all items in it down first. I stand back a few feet from my door when I answer it. I put a shoe there to hold it open.

What is the point for ordering masks when the supply is so limited? Look into making our own masks in Ontario, it is not rocket science!

Do you think that isn't already being done? It takes time to change what factories produce and some industries have equipment that is better suited than others. Anyone who can make masks right now basically has a license to print money. I will guarantee you lots and lots of industries and businesses are looking at how they can get into the market, be it as a supplier manufacturer or distributor.

They should have been isolating travellers a month ago but we were told that would not be legal. Didn't want to step on their civil rights. Funny how we can force isolation for travellers now though. All politics and money.

I heard a really good podcast that describes the spread of the Justinian plague, from patient Zero to all the way to 200 years later when it finally died out, its called "The History of Byzantium, Episode 27, the Walking Dead." It helped me get the point across to my younger brother on the nature of bacteria and diseases, obviously a more extreme case but still it gets the point across.

How many people in Canada do we need to be tested positive for COVID 19 virus before you decide to go on lockdown. The numbers of people all over Canada are not decreasing, it is increasing by day!!! We need a LOCKDOWN before it is too late.

First of all no matter what we do the cases will keep increasing for at least a few weeks because of the long incubation period. Second all those people who are coming back from travel should be isolating themselves for 14 days, and its important that family, friends and co-workers shame them into doing it. Third and most important, the situation is different in different areas in Canada to panic and lock down the entire country would be foolish, there is not a one size fits all solution.
