The UK has recorded its highest daily number of deaths from coronavirus. 938 more people died in hospital with the virus in the last 24 hours, close to the worst levels seen in Italy and Spain. The Prime Minister Boris Johnson was said to be “improving” as he prepared to spend a third night in intensive care. Downing Street said he was “sitting up in bed and engaging positively” with staff at St Thomas' Hospital in London. Meanwhile scientists have questioned whether the government can meet its target of 100,000 coronavirus tests a day by the end of April. Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reports from Political Editor Laura Kuenssberg and Health Editor Hugh Pym.

So how many other people have died that never made it to hospital not counting them is giving false figures
@matthewmatthew9485
@matthewmatthew9485 4 года назад
Who knows the true figures. They not testing everybody and never say what underlying health problems people have aswell that might have caused there deaths and not the virus.
@louisebuchan1967
@louisebuchan1967 4 года назад
False figures would be not saying that they do not include deaths outside of hospitals. Secondly scientists and doctors do not have the time or the means to be worrying about statistics at the moment. This is a widespread crisis and, although countries and governments may not have acted appropriately at the beginning, does not need criticism at this moment in time. In addition to this dwelling on deaths is not ideal for mental health. Consider using your energy to spread the message of social distancing. Even though the importance of it is on every media platform available the public are not taking it seriously. The human race has begun to realise our ways of living must change otherwise the planet we inhabit will no longer be able to support our rapidly growing population. There are many terrible things that are awful and there is no use judging one another anymore. People make mistakes. People act out of greed for money or hatred. Learning to move forward as a united world is the only way I can see humans surviving. However, this is impossible while closed minds and blame is still present. Accept what has happened as fact- then decide the solution to each problem and every single person do their best to help. Each persons ability is different, but all that matters is that they care enough to put their whole heart into whatever it is they can do.

How they can say the number of cases are not “accelerating” exponentially when they’re not even testing many people?!
@PositiveHalfling
@PositiveHalfling 4 года назад
Usually they are referring to the fact if a certain percentage of people are with positive test therefore whoever came in contact has a probability of having it so the numbers rise if you think about those who are not registered as infected since sometimes people can have no symptoms while carrying it
@tiramisumochi4787
@tiramisumochi4787 4 года назад
David McDonald I know what exponentially means 🙄 I’m a biomedical scientist. and that’s my point... they’re not testing nearly enough people so how do they know the number of cases aren’t rising exponentially?! The answer is: they don’t. And we already know the transmission rate (R0) is high, meaning 1 person can infect up to 4 people potentially. I’ve seen so many of the public flouting the social distancing rule and not even bothering to keep their distance from people...
@tiramisumochi4787
@tiramisumochi4787 4 года назад

I am sorry, BBC but your graph at 8:52 is totally wrong. UK is at Day 25 since the country reaches 10 deaths and has now 7097 deaths IN HOSPITAL (this is important to mention). Italy, at Day 25 was at 5476, France at 4503. The UK is doing worst than a lot of other european countries not better as your graph is suggesting. And you can't put Spain and UK at the same level "D25" when Spain is actually at day 32 (and Italy at Day 42). I really don't know who edited this graph, but this is a totally wrong!

With the exception of Italy who had no reliable data with which to make rapid decisions, other countries have ZERO excuses. In my opinion they put money before people. Most of them were waiting to see how it played out in Italy which was always going to take weeks and therefore be to late! They were warned by Italian authorities & initially chose not to act putting money before people and it's the people now paying the price!

We are lucky most in the UK live in houses with gardens can exercise. Most Russians can't even do that as most live in small eastern block flats. This is no longer an argument. JC is history. He didn’t win the election and will never become PM. Diane Abbott has been ousted from the shadow government. The party who are in charge should be absolutely scrutinised for their actions (or lack of). The PM dithered and delayed, promoted a ridiculous herd immunity policy, which he only backtracked from due to the justifiable public outrage, boasted about shaking hands with Covid patients, went against advice from the WHO, went against his OWN advice and caught the damn disease himself (allegedly). The Covid cases the NHS are now struggling to cope with are those who caught the disease within the last 20-30 days. At this point, most of Europe was in lockdown. Not the UK though, because MONEY. Don’t forget to clap for Boris though, bootlickers.

I am writing from Quebec (Canada) and we have to stay inside since 3 weeks. From the start schools, shopping centres where closed followed by a closure of all business excluding essentiel services (food, Pharmacy’s, liquor liquor stores). Social distancing is also part of the game. Our Prime Minister (Canada is a Federation of Provinces) appears daily with the Health Minister and Chief Medical Officer. No sugar coating. He garners 85% approval rating. Basic rules are followed by our population: Stay at home, go out and maintain a 6 ft social distancing. Up to now our national healthcare has no been overwhelmed up to now. As of yesterday medical and nursing personnel where able to be redirected to work in homes and other care facilities for the elderly. Stats today show that 90% of deaths come from these sectors. Basically 60 and up, with the hot spot around 80 years old. Stocks of medical equipment are a problem. Trump backtracked is edict to stop export of these to Canada. Talks at the Ministerial have turned this around. Canada fournis most of the material (specialized paper from the pulp and paper of a specific tree), some gowns. We also have Dr’s and nurses (approx. 1,000) who live in Canada working in Detroit Michigan which is part of a hot zone. Canadians, even if is a small country when compared to the US has not envisaged an embargo. I think that heads of States with yellow or orange hair are dangerous. I am not a reporter facts at a Federal level can be checked with CBC ( anglophone portion of our National broadcasting system, and Ici Radio-Canada for everything coming out of Quebec (Francophone national broadcaster). Stay home is our motto. The Federal government is rolling out new measures to protect workers and businesses with fine tuning weekly. With both Provincial and Federal support the population hope that covid 19 will peak at the end of the month. Time will tell. Regards, Michel (and sorry in advance for any grammatical errors).

Tbh, I'm one of the many whose life hasn't really changed. My work place is still open for business (stud bolt manufacturer) it's no where near key work imo and two lads have been furloughed but I'm still going to work every day. I nip to the shops when I need food I just have to queue for s bit and stay away from people. All that's happened is Im not allowed to go to my gf house we just walk from our houses meet half way and walk together outside away from people as much as possible. And I have to work out at home rather than a gym. I might also add that zero social distance has been implemented at my work place. There was a half baked attempt to introduce covid safe practice but we still end up waaay closer than 2m working together because of how the ware house is set and the machines. What's more the manager who tell us "were key business I can furlough you" (even though two lads have been furloughed -yeah I don't know either) are making no attempt to practice social distance! Alll if the office and management staff have been juts behaving normal and talking right in my face and no once keeping distance. It's been two weeks so at this point it doesn't even matter. I wonder how many other firms like mine there are. Where if you weren't watching the news you would have no idea there was anything going on just working at our place

why can't politicians swallow some national pride and look at which countries in the World responded and got results, there was time. Similar situation in UK to USA, when the answers were out there in the experience of other nations. In the future, there needs to be a structure in place that causes decisions to be made automatically following science and data, without the random input of whatever politician happens to be in power at the time

Americans and Europeans are highly intelligent. They are not wise. Until now, they believed only scientists and politicians. No religion believed in a master. Let's listen to a brief explanation of the Buddha. Is there a good answer here for current situvation. '' ''Perplexed by the seemingly inexplicable, apparent disparity that existed among humanity, a young truth-seeker approached the Buddha and questioned him regarding this intricate problem of inequality: "What is the cause, what is the reason, O Lord," questioned he, "that we find amongst mankind the short-lived and long-lived, the healthy and the diseased, the ugly and beautiful, those lacking influence and the powerful, the poor and the rich, the low-born and the high-born, and the ignorant and the wise?" The Buddha’s reply was: "All living beings have actions (Karma) as their own, their inheritance, their congenital cause, their kinsman, their refuge. It is Karma that differentiates beings into low and high states." He then explained the cause of such differences in accordance with the law of cause and effect. Think about Karma that scientists are not wise enough to prove "According to the seed that’s sown, So is the fruit you reap there from, Doer of good will gather good, Doer of evil, evil reaps, Down is the seed and thou shalt taste The fruit thereof." Karma is a law in itself, which operates in its own field without the intervention of any external, independent ruling agency.

Everyone commenting on here talking about not counting the people that died in the community, we don’t even know if all the deaths reported in the last 24 hours died of Covid or with Covid and before anyone starts there is a big difference as a very large portion of the population has most likely already been infected.

They have to revise their regulation asap. NHS doctors and nurses are not in quarantine at their home before they are diagnosed as positive even though they have suspicious symptoms and colleagues who are positive. So afraid of the hospital becomes a place which spreads the virus.
