I drove 18 hours in 2019 to take your basic survival course at Pathfinder just because you were teaching there. I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of gear from Self Reliance Outfitters because of your suggestions and your reviews. When I heard your left to do your own thing, I was happy for you and it made sense. It was just time to do your own thing. It had zero effect on my opinion of your or Dave or his gear. I’m still a fan of Dave’s school and his gear, and I’m still a fan of your gear and your eventual school. If people are complaining, they were never really interested and they never made the commitment to learn from you like I have. They just complain to complain. You do you. I buy what I want and learn from whom I want. Your business decision doesn’t affect my wallet or spending choices. I’m still a fan of both of you. Keep up the great work.

As far as I'm concerned you do a great job and keep up the good work. I'm nearly 70 years old and an ex Boy Scout and always loved camping and the out doors activities. Worked out side most of my life. I don't do those things anymore but sure enjoy watching. You do a great job showing your people how to tie knots and various other skills. It’s your channel. DO NOT feel as if you are try to degrade anyone. Your life is yours. People will either like you or not, no matter what you do or don’t do. We, each one of us do what we feel best first ourselves and those we care for. We MUST care for ourselves and those we care for. The one thing I learned in college that I never forgot: when we say or do anything, there will be 1/3 of the population that will like it no matter what, 1/3 of the population will not like it no matter what, and 1/3 of the population may like it or not like it depending on what it is. I try to remember that when people complain, I probably can’t do anything about it because it’s their problem.

Shawn, mate, I'm late to the drama and got some catching up to do, BUT I hope you see this. I was made homeless 15 months ago, and it is probably fair to say a large part of why I'm here alive now is that I watched your channel. From simple tasks like battoning wood, to the importance of cordage and shelter building, you guided me. I'm in a tent now but for 4 months it was just a bed roll outside. Then I built a shelter from six broom handles a tarp and two arches each made from two tree branches tied to stakes in the ground, bent over and fastened together. Fire starting and building too. The technique you use to build fire reflectors with posts and logs, I customised and with stakes and 30 or so square cross sectional 24:16 furniture legs I built three 'walls' (like your fire reflectors) and used those as supports across which I laid planks to build a platform for a bed because the field I live in floods when the rain is heavy. It was inelegant, but it was all I coukd do with no tools except a broken pocket knife. Long story short, you equiped me to survive. You gave me a foundation to build from. Other people have stepped in and helped, Don't get me wrong, I'm no megaman. I just keep on keeping on. And you will too. Chin up mate. Adapt and overcome.

If you are not being challenged and the fit is no longer right or your values and understandings evolve or any other reason, then it’s time to move on and stagnating is never good. I am one of those people who have followed your channel for years. For what it's worth, I have enjoyed hearing from you and the 'fireside talks'. I think you have given a lot of good perspective for those embarking on their journey in bushcraft, survival, entrepreneurship, or who aspire to run their own channel. I feel you're doing a good job of pulling back the curtain to show people how much work is required to be successful in developing an exceptional skill set. Watching someone who is genuine and driven and who owns their shit is a refreshing change from a lot of content creators. Hi Shawn. Until a couple of days ago I didn't realise there was so much backbiting in the area of your expertise and I'm quite shocked by it all. Let me say that I've no agenda regarding your channel. I'm a 67 year old English guy from a major city in England and at the moment I'm pretty much housebound with Arthritis.I suspect that you and I are from different ends of the political spectrum too, but that's not a problem for me. I find your videos very entertaining, no nonsense and to the point. It's unlikely that I'll ever be able to put your ideas into practice but every now and again there might be some little trick or tip that I can use, but that's just a bonus. It's a nice way to spend half an hour on a Sunday night so more power to your elbow. Cheers mate.

I have watched your videos to get back to nature and learn about bush craft, after a very difficult 10 years. You are a generous with your knowledge, thoughtful, objective and the best out there for bushcraft. There is no need to apologise to those who are negative. I may not use the exact same gear you do, but you teach how to survive in the woods. People do have to adapt their ways to get by. Look at those who live on the streets. I been there a couple times, but I no longer live on the streets. In fact, I want so bad to go camping--I love the woods and you taught me to make a rake, a bed, a shelter, and keep warm during a cold night. What you teach is more important to me than using the EXACT SAME GEAR. I improvise, adapt and overcome. People have to do this when they are homeless as well. As I said, I am NOT homeless anymore. I have kept a roof over my head since 2011. That says something. Most of your skills allowed me to save money. Saving money is key to getting out of debt, paying for something like clothing, food, water, or having lights when electricity power goes out during storms. Having a emergency way to stay alive isn't wrong. I am still saving for a hot tent. China or not. You never have ruined or wasted my time watching. I learned a LOT from you, and I do thank you and appreciate you for the lessons on your channel! Salute! Btw, I am a disabled Veteran. I can't bend my left knee much and I am trying to get my blood sugars down so they can do surgery. With your skills I learned, I can do the stuff you have been doing. That to me is a gamechanger.
