You remind me so much of my Bestest Bud Bill, he passed a year ago last month. He was a Marine, and I served in the Army-SF. We were at each other all the time about who was the best. Proper Prior Planning and Preparation Prevents Poor Performance and Panic! vs... The "eyes rolling back" syndrome and then panicking!! As an "old" Army Ranger, I prefer subdued green and/or camo as well Shawn, if I want a signal there are plenty of options, otherwise I prefer being more covert!!

That is a perfect solo backpacking tent. Enough room for you and your pack inside. Way better than a bivy

The tent design is great but I agree on the color...glow in the dark green, whoa! Rakaia certainly likes bright colors. I like the chevrons on the sleeping bag...cool look. Rakaia should know that in this day and age with what's going on, the increasing lack of dispersal camping areas many of us want or need to stealth camp. These colors would be my last choice in a shelter. I have camped in a tent that was orange and white, however, I covered it with a camouflage netting plus used natural resources to "hide" the tent. Those pancake dippers looked awesome...gotta try them.

Shawn, I've been watching your videos for some time now. I'm a 71 year old widow lady and last week went on my first camping trip in quite a few years. I atook the advice from all the fear mongers and the well meaning officials to put at least six feet between me and others -- wel , you couldn't see from out site to the next. So I velieve I was safe. The trip was a cross between "glamping" and "primitive". Erected a tarp shelter in a state park with just a picnic table and fire ring. The glamping part was that I took a cot with me. The weather was great and I felt comfortable with only one wall and a roof. Thanks so much for the tips and info. This will not be the last trip

Corporal, how about getting a LCpl. intern, he carries the coffee press. Also, normally that precooked bacon is just piled up on pallets at Sam's Club, but with the current panic, sold as fast as the tp.

I agree on the color. Definitely a tent for hobby campers, not a bugout item. Stands out like a neon bar sign.

No need for a coffee press. Just the beans and a piece of cloth is more than enough. Or if you got time to prepare, tea bag with coffee grounds in it. You may need to let it steep longer than usual, though. Or what I do is toss the tea bag while the water's building up a boil. After boiling, I let it steep there for a minute or two.

Being a recent R-BTK Amputee I'll soon be relearning how to carry my 45 to 50 pound back pack through the woods again. It will not be easy. But I will do it if it kills me trying. I will fall. But I shall once again rise, and continue forward one step at a time. When you stated that a 5 day pack should weigh about 30 pounds, I thought you were kidding me/us, but then having asked around I find that I might have been over packing ie. non required items, so I now have to reevaluate my choices. Maybe it just comes down to what each person feels that they require. And yes, that color on the tent: "Hell to the no".

You should try 100% real Maple syrup and not that brown corn syrup stuff. Real Maple syrup is a little more expensive, but its well worth it. It has a lot of potassium in it too.

Were else can you learn survival tips, learn great campfire eats, get honest reviews, and get your daily comedy intake? No where!

All those "instant bacons" are delicious. Oscar Mayer makes a similarly tasty treat. I stopped purchasing them when I performed some quick calculations and came up with $28.44 per pound. I figured since I like Porterhouse/Ribeyes/the usual suspects that I'd redirect the funds. Thanks for the memories!

Have you tried Foldgers coffee in the tea bag? I use it when I go camping. It works great, no additional gear needed.

LOL ribbed for my pleasure. Seriously I have a Therm-A-Rest from 30 years ago backpacking still works great. Older now and have full size Mondoking. it's big but super comfortable. I still use my ancient one for outback work, has one 20 year old patch still holding up. Of note is the air valve lets me fully inflate and adjust on it for the perfect softness.

That tent system is great, if they can get a coyote brown or OD green i will buy. I don't go far from 4 pegs on the the corner of military issue poncho, I go with whats tested. It is time to upgrade. BTW "ribbed for my pleasure"it didn't sound right, but i need a good laugh, keep up the good work!

You should publish a corporals outdoor survival cookbook. I would buy it and utilize it.

I used to carry a 50 lbs pack as a kid when we went backpacking. I don't remember how long we went for but it was probably around a week. I was fine with that as like a 10-year-old because I have always had a strong back and strong legs.

Thanks for the video... It smells beautifully :) You don't need extra gear or a press in order to cook genuine delicious authentic filter coffee :) You can use paper filters, or better, you can brew the coffee in cold water until boil then pour some cold water on top of it in order to make coffee grounds settle. Both is way better and healthier than that excuse of instant coffee anyways.

I'm of the same mindset. I won't carry extra gear if I don't have to. I camp in all weather. I get disgusted by these men who are put off by camping and get a hotel room instead. Scared of the cold and rain. Don't need a lot of gear, just the right gear. Army put that in my head, if it doesn't fit in the pack you don't need it. Up and moving quickly, needing to set up fast and pack up fast now I always will pack as light as possible.

I enjoyed this video tremendously, and even purchased the tent. While the tent itself is not bad (note that anyone over 6' will barely fit length-wise), this company (Rakaia) is going out of business. They also have a lot of complaints lodged against them with the BBB. If you go on their FB page, people are complaining about unfulfilled orders, etc. None of this obviously is anything Corporal Kelly has anything to do with, but just thought people should know.
