How this guy gives an order to strike it how ever he asks and matt just produces it is pure talent how he can just adjust the strike at any given moment is absolute gold its mind blowing
As someone who has played golf competitively for over 50 years and is currently a golf coach/instructor, this may well have been the very best and most useful video I have ever had the pleasure of viewing -- which I have done more often than once. And if all my players could hit on demand as well as Matt does, I could retire happily
When I got back into the game 3 ago there were two defining game changers for me: Learning to how to hit up on the driver and stumbling across a fledgling RU-vid channel called Tour Experience Golf!! As always great video boys!
That's exactly what I was thinking right off the hop. Of course when you compare it to the 342 with proper contact that's almost 60 yards. So for the decent mid handicapper that only has 260 max - on a percentage basis that player is now topping out at 215. That's 4 clubs extra into the green. So instead of playing a 7 iron into the green - now you're hitting a hybrid or fairway wood (I'm assuming that with the clubs available today that no player in that handicap range is gaming a proper 3 iron). That's a big difference.
@@gracesiegert6171 There are a lot of golf YoutTube channels where they haven't anywhere near that level of control over their ball striking. Now that being said - they do have the benefit of being able to do as many takes as needed to get the proper strike. It would be interesting to see how many it takes Matty to nail exactly what they're looking for :-)
@D Jameson True enough. They've posted videos of them playing on pretty challenging golf courses and he's pretty good. Not as consistent as in the RU-vid clips...but on those they can edit out really bad ones...also even touring pros miss their spot more than they hit it out on the course.
Best video I have seen for years. I am someone with the exact issue that was highlighted in the last swing. I tee it pretty high and my bad shot is always a thin one out the toe which is truly nasty. I have seen hundreds of videos explaining the reason and giving lots of swing drills but this one video with 14 minutes of info on the impact of the club face bulge and roll and its direct correlation to spin and launch has TURNED THE LIGHTS ON!!!! I often do tee it down to try and play that little squeeze fade fairway finder and land up hitting the bombed draw off the tee. A simple explanation with a simple method to practice and combat the problem has literally clarified 5 years worth of issues and 30y left on the table. Now to just get out there after the lock down and see this in action. Cannot thank you guys enough.
@@kusler67 Lol exactly. You're only seeing the shots that achieve the numbers they are trying to showcase. You can tell he's hit a number of shots because when they show an "ideal" shot he starts with saying "That should be a better one" or "I think that's the one we are looking for". Not taking anything away from Matt, he's definitely a player. But he isn't striping ever swing.
This is really interesting stuff and I really found it useful. I am in my 60's and only been golfing for 10 yrs but have 105 SS and have been struggling with distance on my driver, as compared to what I used to hit with same SS. I now play at sea level too, which hurts from where I used to play. Anyway, since being grounded I was playing around on my mat hitting into the net and trying different tee heights. I sprayed the face with foot powder. I found that I got a much more centred strike from lowering my tee height so am looking forward to getting back to a real range to work on it some more
Ian: great point about the super high tee. In an attempt to hit more up on the driver for more distance. I was too much weigh on my trail side, lead shoulder tilting up not rotating and then you're kind of flipping at it. The swing flaw trickled into my entire game. Went back to regular tee height(1/2 ball above driver head) and feeling my lead shoulder goes down and around. if you think about it, the driver head is moving upward due to forward ball position and legs are rising up from squatting at the start of the downswing. When I strike the ball above the equator of the face results are pretty good. I see what you"re talking about on the range all the time and unfortunately I was one of those people. Matt's ability to hit shots on demand is amazing, you should do a video where you work him through his bag and have him hit different shots with different clubs. Stay well and thank you for the great content.
This is a magnificent demonstration of how a seemingly trivial thing like tee height can affect performance from the tee box. Save yourself a lot of frustration and get your tee set proper.
And this is why we love TXG. Another great informative video from you guys and what a student Mattie boy is!!! When we getting Ian’s hole in one challenge, can’t wait for that one. Superb as always. You guys are setting the bar high.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’d never heard about roll of a driver face before. And showing the results from different strike points compared to tee heights was eye opening for me. The day after watching this video, I gained 30 yards on my drives.
Matt's level of strike is pure filth!! There's no need!! Great informed video again lads. Well done. The sheer volume of fact based information and knowledge you lads have is 2nd to none. Thank you for sharing with us
The different lofts in the same head vs launch angle is the best explanation i have seen yet!!! I love this and feel i will benefit from this video. Thanks
Agree with earlier comment, summary appropriate hi lighting major positive 3 or so points, so I don’t have to rewatch several times, thank you; good info
What a great video to show the impact tee height can make. I unknowingly was teeing my ball to the middle of the driver last summer and my drives just kept coming up shorter than normal. About 2 or 3 weeks left in the season I realized it and started hitting my normal distances again and then some. It's crazy how finite it can be.
Matt is amazing the way he puts the club on the ball where its needed. Was watching long drive videos last night. Plus 150 club head speed plus 230 ball speed. On a couple shots they said trackman radar couldnt pick up the ball speed cause ball left to quick. Simply amazing.
On the first three shots, from bottom strike, to middle strike, to high strike the spin reduced 425+ rpm each time. It may have been by accident on Matt's part, but this was a perfect illustration of what so many golfers aren't willing to accept (or can't comprehend): STRIKE IS KING.
Great content once again, Matt's ability to alter his delivery and strike is a wonder. great information to use at the range whilst dialling in the driver.
very good video, im swinging 116 getting 166-168 ball speed but only 265ish carry. lots of great info and visuals for me to hone in my swing for maximum distance. thank you
A little complicated video for a weekend club golfer. I couldn’t dream of hitting a golf ball as hard as this. I watched the video twice and couldn’t figure how your video could help me. But it was interesting to see how the golfer Marty controlled the shot and what modern equipment can show you. The changing loft on the driver face was also interesting.
I have watched 100 videos. Ian just needs to caddy for Matty and go on tour...and all I just want is a byline at some point in time. Maybe a round of golf. Just tell him what you want to hit and there it is. Just put a blind fold on this guy and take him on tour. Seriously... I love the videos. You have helped my game immensely. I am an ebay guy and I self -fit and your reviews have put my game in a good place. Thank you,
love these educational videos, been working on my drive after watching some of these, was averaging 250 off the tee(the occasional great hit to 270), last two rounds been 270-280 on about half of my drives. will keep working on it hoping to get closer to 300 one of these days.
Guys, what a fantastic video! Very clear on the cause and effect. I shared your video with a friend whom I've been trying to explain this concept to for 6 or 9 months after picking it up from you guys and he immediately understood it. I think the key takeaway (that I got from you many months ago) is that the ideal strike is above the equator and out towards the toe which produces a long draw. Perhaps your best video ever!
I love every single video you post. The way you talk About golf is unique and comes across as the most honest channel of them all. I ALWAYS learn something of great value 👍🏼😎👍🏾❤️
I saw this for me in a fitting yesterday. I'm a little bit faster than Matty and I was being robbed of distance on a low strike. I was teeing it too low and had low strike contact. As soon as I moved it up.... 20+ more yards. ** Light bulb effect!! Thanks guys
Holy bejesus! I knew tee height and attack angle were important but the drastic differences were crazy and I've long been told that at 6'1" 240lbs and 100 mph (driver) speed that I'm very short for my effort. I know I tee low and strike is often thin and now I know why guys look sideways at me and remark how they expected more when it ends up 225-235 with good hits still under 250 typically 240. There's more out there for me without much improvement in speed just tee and delivery changes. Can't wait to get out there to practice this.
I need 20 yards. I will be implementing this newer higher face up strike. I am dead lower center consistently. Thank you guys. Always enjoy your research and wise experiences.
This is one of the best ones yet! I used to be the guy flipping it at the bottom and can attest to the fact that teeing it lower and learning to squeeze it more really helps
Never forget last summer I wanted to carry a dog leg so I tee'd it up a touch higher than usual and increased my upward angle of attack while trying not to hang back and absolutely mashed it. Talk about a moment of clarity.
I didn't know until recently but I swing 110 and average 240 carry and 240 total. I'm trying everything to get a better path but man is it tough! I think I'm starting to swing up oin it well, but must be catching it low on the face based on your demonstration. Very informative guys, thank you so much!
Matt...you are simply amazing! This is better than golf swing lessons. This information is so valuable if the golfer can apply these principles. Ian...super knowledgeable as always.
Ian, you mentioned this vid in today's live so I thought I'd watch it ! A couple of years ago I went from teeing high and hitting it well to then getting it too high on the face and going left, right and high. I changed tee and lost distance and height so I went to the range and worked on trying to hit slightly high and slightly in the toe and the ball went back to flying high and long. Dry shampoo showed me strike and that really helped given I don't have access to a quad. I didn't think about the roll having an affect too, I suppose that's the problem with not knowing enough about the technical aspects of the game. Great vid both of you, really useful, thank you.
Never thought of the shampoo. I use a dry erase marker and gives me a perfect imprint and wipes off. Teeing high and big sweep = equals so much lost (and maybe injury). @txg So, was it the ball being teed, middle of ball splits top of driver?
Should we expect a similar video focusing on teeing up the ball with an iron? Something I've been curious about since I do tend to hit the occasional "flier" off the tee with long irons, and catching it high in the face would certainly do it! I'm also not helping myself by using low spin balls (avx) at the moment but planning on returning to z-stars soon
Great video and information. But what really blows my mind is all the freaking data that machine catches! It blows my mind that it can get the point of impact on the face, spin, club face angle I mean it's just mind-blowing!
TXG, You taught me something. Thanks. I am the guy who either tees it high and falls backwards, or tees it too low and strikes it low. Definitely will work on point of impact. I had no idea the static loft of the clubface varies from top to bottom. Duh! My driver trajectory has varied greatly and is sometimes a surprise to me. I can now see impact point on the face is the unknown factor, in addition to AOA. BTW, based on the comments below, I think you should limit your discussion of distance to carry only to avoid confusion. My course is soft at sea level, so rollout is minimal.
Probably the best video I've watched for improving my driving, all this time I thought I was playing a higher tee than I actually was and looking at these results it's probably cost me a lot more than 20 yards. Can't wait to get out and try playing around with this ! Thanks again guys, loving the content :)
Its great if the weekend warrior can have those simple adjustments and a repeatable swing available to take advantage of the information. Reality is 91% of golfers in world are mid to high handicapped which is why every year major golf brands focus on selling clubs that are guaranteed to go straight no matter how bad the swing. If the player is truly serious of being a good golfer, then having a proper swing coach for life is the best answer.
Probably one of my favorite golf videos. I’ve been experimenting with higher tees and it works. I’ve gotten up to 358 this year. Of course, I also mishit about 60% of the time for 275. :)
Combined this video with the one on hitting a “fairway finder” and had my best driving day I think I’ve had. +4.7 driving HCP on arccos ( play off 6). Had my standard high tee bomb downwind and hit the low spin laser into the wind which was so easy to control. Fantastic stuff gents, thanks and keep it up!
WOW....The higher tee and lower on the face describes my problem. High spin is a definite for me. I'll be working on the tee height tomorrow at the range.
another fabulous video boys. Matty your club control to show us each shot is amazing (even if their is some editing). Ian love the understanding you have and how you explain stuff. Honestly shocked that loft changes so much across the face top to bottom. It explains why when I'm driving it well I have to reduce driver loft as I naturally hit it a bit high in the clubface and when I'm down on confidence in the driver I have to loft up the head as my strike gets lower on the head. It makes a bit of sense as to why I have to do that now as opposed to me doing it to purely help my driving as something I have found works. Thanks.
So good stuff your guys are showing us. This just opens a book for me and I understand much better the connection between hight of the te and of the swing path/angle of attack and strike point.
Frequent watcher of your content but don't take enough time to thank you for the outstanding quality of your vids. This was a fantastic explanation of how I can go out and vary my driver distance from 240's to 290's just dependent on strike and AOA. Now if I could just manage to do the right one intentionally every now and again that would be fantastic! Lol
Mark Crossfield made a similar video some years ago, about the difference between hitting about 4 degree up vs 4 degree down on the ball. When hitting up, he gained 24 yards carry compared to hitting down!
Can only echo the comments above about how useful and enjoyable all your content is, and especially this, for a frustrated UK golfer on pause! Quick question if I may re the 2.7 : 1 total - what element of that would be carry? I know rollout depends on firmness of ground, as well as controllables such as spin, descent angle, etc, but is say 30yd rollout typically factored in for summer conditions? Keep up the great work guys. Lots of good golf content on YT but yours is the best, brilliant explanations. You seem top fellas too!
There is a guy at my club that uses illegal 6 inch tees (4 inches is the limit) he has a bent down negative 2 degree loft driver. He has about 188 to 190 ball speed which you think would be like 340-350 carry. He consistently carrys it over 400 yards. Ball position is way past the front foot. 1400 spin over 23 degrees of launch. Incredible.
I'm 105mph SS with the driver and only 220M on a good one, maybe i should look at moving my tee height up and strike. I have the F8 in 10.5 so plenty of loft, but I slice it so the higher strike taking off some backspin might help a lot! Great video guys, shows exactly how vital correct tee height is and what the wrong tee height does to launch and spin.
I knew it, middle -lower tee benefits more in ball striking. I used to slice my driver a lot but one day I just put the tee a bit lower and it changed my golf game. I think you should make a video on the forgiveness of the head
Laura Davies used to remove the eraser and tee it up extra high on a pencil for added distance. There are restrictions on tee height now but it’s an interesting insight.
I picked up 20 plus yards, by switching to a new swing instructor this past year. My swing looks a lot like Matt wolffe, but I have never hit as long and well. I still have more to go. I have to get my launch down
