I hope this analysis and all the many others go to show just how "uneducated" your games fanbase is, Mr Soderlund. This video was a massive collaborative effort with much of the critical research sourced from our team including Davidson, Karabiny, K-Nyne, FeReinsm, Munancho Inc and ,the supportive community in our discord group, along with several other sources. Massive thanks to everyone involved and to you for watching! If you have any questions, corrections, or extra inaccuracies then please let us know in the comments.
When I first found your channel, specifically, the video centered on the newer version of Cold War. This game came into my mind, and I thought to myself “he’s probably going to have an absolute aneurysm with Battlefield five if he gets to it“ And unfortunately, I wasn’t wrong throughout this video you seem like you are on the absolute verge of just wanting to put yourself into a diabetic coma. It’s interesting though because as you and pretty much everybody else is keenly aware the initial release of this actually did gain a lot of people saying that you know there were so many historical inaccuracies and all that stuff. But as we know the head guy for this particular game told everybody that they could go and suck it and obviously this resulted in battlefield five having some extremely poor sales, and even worse reviews. I definitely commend you for having the courage and the willpower to look over this game. I look forward to anything you might have on mind in the future.
Hey guys just wanted to say something, When I started to watch Frosty1, I was quite surprised and fascinated with the level of inaccuracy produced by COD, a few games tried, and a few didn't, and downright slandered history. But after I watched the BF5 video I was even more shocked and disappointed with it. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the Battlefield series and I believe that Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 were the Golden Age of the Battlefield franchise and were also the pinnacle of what Battlefield should be. But looking at BF5 I was disgusted with the franchise, It made the COD game inaccuracies cute compared to what they decided to put out, EXCEPT FOR VANGUARD AND COLD WAR THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY SHIT, But the rest of the COD games tried somewhat. To Frosty1, today's video was an absolute masterpiece and a great historical review/documentary, I learned a lot today thanks to you. Please continue to put these videos in the future and I shall always be your supporter. See you soon with more videos and god bless you brother.
Even in my country is not focusing much in ww1 and 2 and yet I knew most of the details of this game is a fraud since our book never tell or tell different stories during ww1 and 2 era
For The Last Tiger, part of the reason why so much of the American gear is so inaccurate is because at the time it came out the Americans weren't even added to the game, so they were mashed together with whatever assets they had, and they never bothered to update it after the actually added American stuff
And of course being modern DICE, they decided to go ahead with designing the mission instead of waiting until the Americans were added or instead making the mission take place in the areas that the UK invaded
@Ananonymousguy-nk9oj or you know the fact that they released a WW2 game containing stuff from 3 of the 6 major fighting nations (and france BARELY counts as 1 of those 3)
>goes to school for 12 years >goes to college for 4-8 years >finally gets a degree in history >flame BFV online >refuses to elaborate further >leaves. *What a Chad*
One more thing, not sure if someone pointed it out yet, but at the end of the British campaign, we see that the German soldier who was captured by Billy is still banging on the trunk to try to be let out, but the panel that moves is actually the engine bay hatch, which means they crammed that poor man inside the engine
All these inaccuracies can date back to the Community Manager (correct me if I’m wrong) saying to the fanbase “I’ll find myself on the right side of history, accept it or don’t buy it” This shows Dice and EAs attitude towards this game was never about being historically respectful but by writing their own safe version of WW2 :/
"Find myself on the right side of history" The funny thing is that at this moment, (at least on PC) Battlefield V is currently the MOST played Battlefield game, just above 2042. In a way, he was right
@@CoolAndrew89well yeah duh. It is a fps game not a historical documentary after all. I think more people would be happy to play as themselves in the game, than seeing that it would be an inaccuracy and being mad over it.
It at least makes a little bit of sense, a decent amount of WW1 stuff did end up getting used in WW2 for one reason or another, so it isn't that out of place. Mostly.
@RusticRonnie they weren't. They just didn't care. They weren't passionate. Like most kids nowadays they view jobs as a grind and a means to an end. So many people won't stay in a position more than a year or two so they can move to different companies and make more money....
Agreed but even the Last Tiger mission was... incredibly inaccurate. I loved that I could (fucking) FINALLY play as a German Soldier in a Historical (if you wanna call BFV that) war game but... the amount of inaccuracies hurt my soul as I played through it. Could barely get through it once because of that.
Well if you want more WW2 from german perspective. I highly reccommend Company of Heroes with DLCs. Three of the campaigns (which are in the DLCs) are as germans it is definetely worth checking out. If you like RTS games then you will definetely have fun. 1st campaign is a Market Garden Campaign where you as commander of Kampgruppe Lehr fight of the Allied Paratroopers. 2nd is Tiger Ace campaign where you go on the Rampage in the Villers-Bocage destroying British Armor. 3nd is my absolute favorite. Falaise Pocket from Perspective. You fight the never ending onslaught of Allied troops holding the town of Trun.
"The characters are diverse so it must be right. We should ignore and cover up the real people who participated in a real historical event, just to shove in a mid story that even the target audience wouldn't like if they were playing the game."
32:04 Additional inaccuracy: The reload animation for the STG44 shows the magazine being rocked back into the magazine well, which is often incorrectly depicted because people assume it works the same way as an AK47 due to the visual similarity. In reality, the magazine is inserted straight into the well
Except, maddeningly enough, they DIDN'T get everything wrong; There are some aspects they did okay to even great at, which then makes all of the errors even more infuriating.
0:35 My great uncle was born in 1898 and fought in that unit. Thankfully he survived WW1 and lived to see his 5 sons fight in WW2. They survived the war, but the little brother of the family lost his hearing in combat during the pacific theater. My family knows how to survive wars, ha.
@@sethleoric2598 I know right? Although all the 5 brothers are dead they had 1 sister born in 1930 and she’s currently 93. Me and my grandma went to her house a few months ago and I asked about if she remembered WW2 happening. She only remembered a little, but she remembers getting mail from her brothers during their service. Update: February 25th 12:04PM. I’m gonna go see her today! :D
My great-grandfather was a British Bren machine gunner at the battle of kasserine pass, he lived to see through the battle, but he was injured by a Stielhandgranate, this is unfairly represented.
Funfact, the german law allows usage of things like the bad-bad cross under the circumstance that it is used in historical, documentarian, artistic and some other ways, as long as there is no glorification of the third reich. In fact it is being shown in tv shows, games and other media quite regularily.
1:09:02 This "camo" pattern looks it was based on the same pattern used by the Pemuda Pancasila (English: Pancasila Youth) paramilitary organization in Indonesia, that is formed in 1959. I need to know what the hell was DICE smoking when they made this game
I have to ask, how on EARTH did the flamethrower troops in NORWAY get Afrikacorps jackets, meanwhile the German soldiers in AFRICA were wearing winter gear? Like you can't make up a mistake like that. It's so over the top I wonder how it even made it out the door.
I still remember the backlash this game got and the amount of people defending it was... honestly scary. I still remember someone saying "People don't want authenticity in games, they want convincing power fantasies." like... Did they know what game they're talking about?
Honestly bfv being accurate is like a fish climbing a tree: it's really bad at it, but that's because it was never meant to try in the first place. Bfv is cinematic first and foremost.
@@matthewcharles5867 Um, Enfield rifles have 5 round clips. It's the SMLE (short magazine lee enfield) (enfield with a small magazine) that has a 10 round clip. And the SMLE in bf5 has 10 rounds, so idk what you mean
The disrespect of the Norwegian men of Operation Gunnerside pisses me off so much. I read the book “SABOTAGE” about their mission, and the amount of inaccuracies and turning their story into a mother-daughter narrative is awful.
8:21 That flag uses the same design from Battlefield 1942. 33:24 Correction: there is a barrel changing animation for the MG34 and MG42 but it’s only in MP for some reason. 38:19 The third barrel is usable as an alternate fire mode. 1:31:05 I wonder if DICE ever considered having this war story be set in Berlin instead of Cologne.
@@bored-z2397 COD WAW has the most gigantic balls of all time when compared to Cod WW2 and shitguard and BFV, though COD WAW has a lot of historical inaccuracies covered by the same guy of this vid, but it's mainly uniforms and kits and the dates and weapons and tanks.
1:25:20 actually the German law allows depictions of swastikas in works of art such as movies and books. Video-game were not recognized as works of art for some outdated political reasons. However the since 2018 this law changed to include video games in that clause. Battlefield 5 came out in November 2018 and The last Tiger in December 2018. So they had a lot of time to change to the swastikas. Also as to why they're not included in the American or British version of the game I have no idea. It seems like no one has the balls to show history anymore. Shame...
You are only half correct. Yes, German law now allows swastika for educational, art or satire purposes. For video games and stuff, however, there must be a enmity towards the Third Reich portrayed. The Last Tiger makes you play as Germans, so a swastika would be illegal there, too. The same for games like World of Tanks, War Thunder, Enlisted, Gates of Hell, Company of Heroes, Hell Let Loose, Squad 44 (formerly Post Scriptum) and so on. It's a complete nonsense law.
@@graustreifbrombeerkralle1078 nope swastika is sanskrit word it symbol peace because hindu diaspora in western always trouble with displayed the swastika symbol association with nazi even both differently display
I don't think U know what that phrase means ngl. They were talking about the inclusion of female characters in the game, and how it is better to be inclusive than exclusive, and how they think that the world is trending towards inclusivity.
Those stupid rating systems and censorship laws; Same reason why it's fine murdering dozens of people in a game with Mature17+ rating but if it (for example) has usage of drugs or some nudity it might have problem
One more inaccuracy in the prologue. You can see lit streetlights in the background briefly. To my knowledge this wouldn’t be the case during the blitz as a blackout was enforced.
You missed one at 38:00 The sight on the FlAK 38 doubled as an artificial horizon indicator and should swing freely rather than being an unmoving ring. This pivoting action allowed the gunner to begin firing at the correct time to ensure that the rounds would impact on an aircraft as it flew.
1:11:10 What is baffling is that the appropriate flare pistol for this missiom was already used in BF1. They quite literally modeled an incorrect one when just ripping the old BF1 model would've been more accurate. The one time they don't reuse assets.
small detail with the WW1 section both the German and American soldiers facing each other off are holding Gewehr 98 rifles with the bayonets somehow fixed to the stock instead of to the bayonet lug just under the barrel
no, the US soldier has a Springfiled M1903, I remember using it in the opening BF1 mission. The Springfield company was sued by Mauser, however, because the Springfield used almost the exact same action, but the lawsuit never went anywhere because Germany lost the war.
An Enlisted sponsorship on the previous vid, and now a War Thunder sponsorship. Props to you for mentioning the classified document leaks on the ad itself xD
You gotta look at the multiplayer customization options sometime. Oh the embarrassing amount of time, effort, and money I spent trying to come up with cool yet believable looks for my soldier classes…
1:03:24 You haven't seen this yet, one Russian movie about the war. There was a similar scene in which civilians went to a German fortress with shovel handles. The film "Burnt by the Sun 2" is hated in our country just as much as "Enemy at the Gates" and many other modern Russian films about the Great Patriotic War
Why is the movie so despised? I'm curious. It doesn't seem as vibrantly political (ex.: T-34) or downright bizzare (ex.: Enemy at the Gates) as many other movies. When I watched it (as a Pole), the movie seemed quite appropriately grim and nihilistic. Whatever its faults may be, I do think that the trench sequence of the movie, from the arrival of the recruits to the battle itself, is the best of the film.
This was super interesting to watch, though I have some fixes on the tank sections (I love tanks) - The Tiger in Norway in the prologue is inaccurate even if the year was right. I can't find anything showing Tigers being sent to Norway, not to mention how stupid it would be to send a tank with such a limited production to an inactive front - Missed Neubaufahrzeug appearance opportunity. - The lack of Panzer III's in all the North Africa sections is criminal - The Panzer IV H's in "Under No Flag" are in grey paint when they should be in literally any form of tropical camo for German tanks (tan colors). Panzer IV H's started production after dunkelgelb was made the standard base coat as well. All of this makes them even more inaccurate - There is no visual differences that identify the Panzer IV at 1:11:18 as an F2, as there was not much changed between it and the Ausf. G and so counting that as an inaccuracy is a little unfair. - I think you missed that the Sdkfz. 251's in "The Last Tiger" have the older more complex rear hull shape, when by 1945 the design was simplified. - You also missed that the catastrophic explosions that all the tanks suffer in game would be even more unlikely for the late war Shermans due to wet stowage. - The Peter's tank in "The Last Tiger" is not a Tiger Ausf. H but is a Tiger Ausf. E - The old style cupola continued into early E production, though by 1945 the new type cupola would have been more common (Tank Encyclopedia has an illustration of a 1945 Tiger with the late suspension and early cupola similar to what the on in game is like). - External smoke grenade launchers were not universal and there was an internal one for later Tigers (located behind the loader's hatch). - The in game model show the tank having the later type suspension (interleaved pattern shows the outer 4 wheels further away from the sprocket wheel) which is further proof of it being and Ausf. E Tiger. This later suspension also should have the steel rimmed wheels (model in the game looks like rubber so that is still inaccurate). - The fact that it is a Tiger Ausf. E makes the North Africa air filters even more inaccurate than if it was a Tiger Ausf. H.
1:03:30 I find it extremely ironic that in the game they took the rifles away from les Tirailleurs. This unit’s name literally means “Shooters” (from the French verb “tirer” - “to shoot”) Or these sénégalais were so cool that they could shoot using shovels
I am really thankful that you have made a video on Battlefield V, I have always wanted to see someone take a look at this, amazing video as always. If it isn’t too much to ask, could you please take a look into battlefield 1 as well?
I seem to recall the turret flying off of an exploding tank was way more common among Soviet tanks. The Soviets liked to store the ammo under the turret, so when it cooked off the force of the explosion would send the turret flying into the air. This is still seen with Soviet and post-Soviet tanks to this day.
It’s increasingly disrespectful for these games that say they’re historically accurate and then change races or genders of the men that fought the war. Too many movies and games are doing this.
@@Ananonymousguy-nk9oj which isn’t even true, because several German generals wrote autobiographies after the war and started a fuckton of myths. History is written by those who write it down.
@@harmlesshawk1794 In this case it's justified, because if DICE really wanted to tell stories involving women and other minorites, they had plenty of options. Instead they took existing stories and misrepresented them in a way that was downright disrespectful.

WW1 is actually what led to WW2 and eventually the Cold War, Had the Entente didn't come up with the idea of blaming Germany things would've gone differently for better or worse
Battlefield 1 was hella inaccurate too lol. It was just far more dedicated and passion made. Still quite the mediocre short campaigns compared to prior Battlefield ones, for which I was extremely disappointed. As a matter of fact, gunwise, it was worse than this one.
BF1 was pretty inaccurate too, but the stories were better on the whole, and they did a better job of at least being authentic, showing war in a more serious way than most games do.
All DICE had to do for the Nijmegen battle is just rip off the crossing of the Waal segment in 'A Bridge too far' but they did a whole load of bollocks instead.
When I saw some of these uniforms of both German and British factions, I noticed how odd the equipment was represented. It's enough to ask us if we really have seen those outfits and uniforms before. Not to mention the odd Parabellum MP40 magazine vest for the German factions found commonly around the campaigns.
15:42 correction there, aside being used by JG11 for the Reich Defense identification band, the yellow band is also the identification band used on all Axis warplanes on the Eastern Front. For the Mediterranean and North African Theater, the Bf 109 should've used the white identification band.
13:44 Would most likely be a Mle 1886/39 or a 07-15 M34 equipped with a mle 1921 scope. 1:05:23 1907/15 M34 Berthiers were still quite common even in Colonial troops. Same for FM 24/29 (though indeed Brens were used too).
Even further diving into the Sturmgewehr rabbit hole, depending on exactly when the mission is set it could be any of the following Mkb42H Mp43 Mp44 Stg44
Funny thing is that BF1’s historical inaccuracies will probably mostly be somewhat minor, with just a few guns and a black German being the main issues, whereas in BFV it’s like every soldier is a time traveler
@@hyml_300 Nah, Battlefield 1 is more historically authentic than you guys give it credit for. The only significantly inaccurate stuff are the black German and the 3-4 prototype weapons. Other than that it sticks mostly to stuff that actually existed
@@ExtantPerson the Italian war story literally never happened and the arditi was portrayed wrongly, the american faction is incredibly butchered bc of their attire and weapon portrayal, overall all the factions lack the proper attire and heavy use of experimental armor pieces that saw little to no combat use
@@hyml_300 Duh, none of the war stories actually happened, they’re historical nonfiction. While it is true that they put too much emphasis on the armored guys, they were still real and saw action. The American faction is fine, the only odd thing there is the support’s helmet. Remember, America had to use mainly British gear in WW1 because so many people enlisted so fast. The factions are all fine, and in reality all countries experimented with or used body armor, most of all Italy and Germany, so giving them all access to the sentry kit is both sensible for gameplay balance and not too egregiously inaccurate.
As someone that played BF5 almost exclusively for the multiplayer (which actually has some pretty good-looking WW2 gear, like Kradchutzen), I can say that BF5 tried harder than Vabguard.

Hey Frosty, i got an odd request for a 360 game that not a lotta folks know about Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII I’d love to see a breakdown for its historical inaccuracies lol I know a lot of time and hard work goes into these videos and i appreciate you and your team for it!
So i have a friend who used to work at dice and he said the reason why single player doesn’t have vehicle and weaponry like the staghound or the Qf pounder is because the mission is created before multiplayer and they use the models they already had and dont bother to add the ones they make later like the at gunner in the last tiger u can see the hands hold it like the bazooka since they’re supposed to but due to time constraints and what my friend call house boredom they didn’t add it back
DICE not sticking to historical accuracy is something that made me drop the game quite quickly. Even though BF1 isn't as accurate as I remember it being, I played it a lot longer and have fond memories of it.
Fascinating. So they actually built and then scanned the uniforms IRL? That would explain the anachronisms (just buy some MilTec gear to complete the set), but one would expect a multimillion dollar project to maybe have the budget to ask some reenactors for help. You know, the guys who already have those uniforms complete.
I agree. Personally, I think ZAT has a better atmosphere since it basically is just a WW2 game with zombies which makes it seem somewhat more grounded, if that's really applicable. The 9th SS panzer division consisted of many regular Wehrmacht conscripts. The 10th SS panzer division was almost entirely conscripts. I had no idea the Waffen-SS used conscription. How did the Wehrmacht react to that? I know there were tensions between the Wehrmacht and SS over jurisdiction and equipment. Conscripting men into the party's military rather than the country's sounds like it'd be another point of tension.
Yeah the two never got along. The Wehrmacht were historically more politically diverse compared to the SS. However last I remember the conscripts the SS used were mostly foreign Ostruppens.

32:01 By a technicality, the STG44 did exist in 1942, it just wasn't the Sturmgewehr 44 version, it was the Maschinenkarabiner 42(H), designed from 1940 to 1941 by Hugo Schmeisser, which did have an automatic fire switch, so by a technicality and a name change the STG 44 is accurate for 1942
Battlefield V was a shitshow. And as soon as i heard one of the devs talking about the game needing to be diverse because of his fortnite playing 5 year old daughter, i knew that i had wasted money on a WWII fan-fic, not a serious game.
The thing that drives me crazy the most is the fact that they can create some correct uniform items and accessories and then put them in the completely wrong setting. Like the goggles. Put Luftwaffe goggles on a panzer commander, then put Soviet goggles on Luftwaffe pilots. It’s insane.
Yeah, as a former Enlisted player, i wanna see just how historically accurate it actually is, i know it's far from perfect but it surely obliterates BFV, let alone CoD Vanguard
