Corrective lighting can really set your portrait photography apart from other photographers and make your clients fall in love with the way they look.
As a portrait photographer, in general, you need to know how to use corrective posing techniques to make your clients look their best on camera.
in this photography tutorial video, I show you a step-by-step process to using lighting and posing techniques to make your clients look their best. These techniques are perfect for in-studio portraits.
In this video, Im using the Westcott L60Bs with various light modifiers , but you can use whatever lighting you have.

I think of it less as "corrective" lighting and more as "sculpting" lighting. Very good tips and excellent examples! 👍

I agree with you 110% This has been my way of doing things for the 37 years I have been a photographer. I do mostly people photography and my most used lens is the 70-200 or a 90mm. Now no one asks me what I'm using to get the results, I just use these lenses and everyone is happy. They sometimes wonder though why I'm so far back in the camera room...

Great video very informative super looking model fabulous clothing great start to a brilliant photo. My favorite lens is a 85mm but for most people they might think about a short zoom so they can easily frame there shot up and not have to play about with there light, I would also use a large reflector to bounce and fill light and one side so it doesn’t completely disappear on the dark side of the model but that’s just me!

Great video 👏🏻 is the longer focal length like a 85mm or longer always better for boudoir shots half body?
@SalCincotta1
@SalCincotta1 10 месяцев назад
i personally think so... wider lenses tend to distort body parts and make things larger the closer you get. sometimes you might not have a choice, but for mid shots - i really like 85mm as a focal length.

What was the reason you chose a strip box for a main light? Would you have gotten a similar effect with a square soft box? Great video, SUB for me!!!!
@SalCincotta1
@SalCincotta1 10 месяцев назад
great question! i chose a strip because i wanted to create a more narrow light source w more control over the light. a square would have been larger and lit more of her body. so i wanted to be in complete control of shadows for this type of shot. hth.

Well, much the same repetitive lighting process and lenses for portrait photography. But how about showing lighting on a scale for those with small / tight budgets using existing flash heads, and temp make-shift living room studios?
@SalCincotta1
@SalCincotta1 10 месяцев назад
I mean think about what you’re asking me to do so now I have to make a video in my living room for it to be applicable for you? You have to take the techniques I’m showing you and then apply them with of course the camera gear you have the lenses you have the lighting equipment you have but the techniques I’m showing you are applicable, regardless of your space or equipment that you have.
@JGZphotography
@JGZphotography 10 месяцев назад
The point to be made is to show others that applying the use of high-ended and expensive gear can give fledging photographers the impression that this is what is best used to create professional looking photos. Your examples are correct, but perhaps using what amateur photographers may have in their bag to stage portrait creations without feeling their setups can't compete with the luxury of finer gear.
@SalCincotta1
@SalCincotta1 10 месяцев назад
@@JGZphotography so you just stop by to add to the absurdity of what’s being asked? So I can’t use the equipment I have the equipment that I’ve built over 16 years as a working and successful professional photographer? I have to now go buy and acquire low end equipment just to show your point? How in the world does that make any sense? That’s like asking a tennis coach or golf instructor to show you how to hit shots w clubs or racquets from 30 years ago because someone might not have current equipment. That’s not the point of this video. If it were I would have called it “corrective lighting on a budget” then I would have complaints from people who have professional lighting. So like i said. Take these techniques and apply them w what you have. Or…. OR! Ask a question that applies to your situation. you know like, for example hey Sal, I’m using XYZ lighting. Can you tell me how to apply what you just showed using the lighting that I have? And then I would answer that question vs trying to shame me somehow for using the gear I actually own.

800 ISO? Guessing you are using continuous light. Do you prefer that for boudoir shoots over strobes?
@SalCincotta1
@SalCincotta1 6 месяцев назад
i do. wysiwyg is so much faster to work with especially for corrective posing. i could have shot at ISO 200 without issue - plenty of room for that if you look at the shutter speed. but todays cameras have no issue at iso 800 hth
