The wrecked car was a HQ Holden (1971-1974) and was almost certainly abandoned a long time ago by Aboriginals. It is common to see old cars dumped where they broke down in remote areas. The blackfellows would just wait for their compatriots to come by and grab a lift back to their communities or into the next population centre where they'd buy another car. In the old days, when Aussie cars were simpler, they'd recall where they left a failed car and go back to it to retrieve parts if someone else's car of the same model needed them.

Thanks for watching! Yep, we reckon you are spot on! The car count was huge and many of them looked like they had been just pushed off the road by a grader over the years. It was one of our favourite drives!

What sort of speeds were you achieving?

We weren’t in any rush but from memory 80-90 kmh was comfortable for much of it and slower in the softer or more corrugated parts. We were pleasantly surprised at the overall condition of the road.
