After travelling 2000km from our home in Queensland to visit family in Melbourne, Victoria. We head off for our first outback trip as a family in our Ineos Grenadier four wheel drive with the Australian Off Road camper van.
In this video we explore the Flinders Ranges in South Australia, without a doubt one of the most beautiful and rugged areas of Australia.
Unfortunately Australia is experiencing an unusually wet summer and we find ourselves in some tricky situations and unable to reach our destination. We are forced to turn back and in doing so encounter extreme conditions resulting in our van rollover.!!!

John, please continue to document your experience with your Grenadier. Your viewpoint is candid, honest and credible; minus the breathless hype of most of these "one-day, test-track" reviewers. Along with Ronny Dahl, your videos have provided a real world, no BS perspective. Thank you and please keep em coming.

Re LandRover section of this vid. I just spent a night in a fancy Italian restaurant , with my bro in law and also LandRover FANBOY telling me about all the repairs he had to do, that cost him a fortune, whilst on a pretty normal run interstate from Bundaberg. The Landy wasn't 30 years old. I didn't say anything about the hundreds of thousands of K's Ive done in LandCruisers older than his heap of shit. Including 2 Tip Trips, up the Cape and Plenty Highway over to Alice, All sorts of brutal rock and sand stuff, fishing The SE coast. Rovers; "If you want to go into the jungle, get a LandRover "If you want to come back out again? Get a LandCruiser." Ancient Proverb

Good One 😂😂. I certainly wouldn't,t argue with that. LR's are notoriously unreliable (whereas LG are the opposite). I had a Range Rover for a while so I have my own experience . Thank for that great proverb! Cheers John

The more you talk about the vehicle. The less l want one. 17,000 kays and there is corrosion, the door seals need replacing.
@cannyoutdoors
@cannyoutdoors 5 месяцев назад
Yes the corrosion is on the side steps which have been peppered by the stones from many kilometres (well about 15k ) of unmade roads. Not OK for sure so looking forward to the "fix" from Ineos. Door seals... again need to be rectified but overall they are not major issues and although a little annoying they have not detracted from the enjoyment I get from driving this car. I do however understand your concern. Thanks for your comment, John

John. Because the vechile is new. I don't think it good to have the problems you mentioned. Even though the vechile has done alot of kays on unmade roads. Yes, l am happy to hear about the vechile from an owner. Of the first batch. I personally have always thought. If Sir Rattler, wanted to replace the Landrover. The body would be aluminium, and a few other changes. But, l wouldn't bore you.

We camped at the Blinman pub about 35 years ago when we were travelling Oz in our 1964 series 2s SWB Landrover. We pulled in mid to late afternoon and had a few cleansing ales until tea time then asked the publician about camping at the pub , at about that time a big rain storm hit and he said I have a cabin out the back that sleeps 10 people but it is not quite finished yet ,just needs painting , you can have it for $5-00 . No worries that will do us as we only had a tent . So we are sitting at the bar eating our counter meal when this youngish bloke bursts through the door , no giday or how you goin and saya he wants 2 rooms for his family and the outlaws . The publician looks out the window and the rain showed on signs of easing ,scratches his head gives us a wink and says $60=00 for 2 rooms . continued our trip up through central Queensland to Cape York across the gulf to Darwin and canped there for over 20 years . moved back to Vic a few years ago and I still have the old Landy

I will be picking up my new utility wagon next week , speced it up to a trialmaster but without the heated stuff and added a few other bits instead The dealer is about 350 ks from us so should get to know it a bit by the time I get home . might even make the maiden voyage to the Flinders ,I had forgotten how good it is @@cannyoutdoors

Lovely Ep and places guys. My wife and I and our friends did a trip thought that area in 1996 we struck rain, Our 4wd and trailers had mud stick to them it was 30cm think in some places on them it dried like concrete. And as we travelled north weeks later it was still falling off up near Darwin. and into the Gulf of NT.

Great trip, albeit you seem to have put the ‘A’ into adventure at the end there. Enjoying seeing how the Grenadier fares. That fuel tank size for Australia is a real issue. Normally our aftermarket come up with a solution but I haven’t seen anything yet. To me those issues you mentioned are relatively minor especially for a vehicle so new to production. If it makes you feel better, when I was last at Rawnsley and Arkaroola it was blowing a gale for the whole time. Looking forward (well sort of…) to the next installment to see what happened. Trust you were all safe and ok Cheers
@cannyoutdoors
@cannyoutdoors 4 месяца назад
Thank you, you have probably caught up with the rest of the trip by now. I think the aftermarket may struggle with the fuel tank issue as there seems very few options. I do agree the other issues, while they can be annoying, are minor. Cheers John

Geez i dunno. Ive been in the auction industry for 37 years, recently retired. Over that time ive had new company cars every 5000-15,000km, plus driving cars of interest. My personal choice has always been landcruiser and now a hilux (to see if incan live with the 2.8 and auto before buying a new70). For the first time I feel toyota are taking the mickey out of their buyers. So Im snooping around alternatives. Ive never had a power steering issue in any landcruiser and ive had 40,60,80,100,200,300, 70s in troopie and 6 and 5x v8. The only warning light ever to go on was for a dirty fuel filter. Clutch in v8 70s were weak tho. Looked at the grenadier and felt the fuel tank is too small. Sonim very grateful incan watch your episodes and let you be the test case. Great trips 👍👍😊

Well congrats on a recent retirement! Interesting I too had numerous company suppled vehicles and have had every thing over the years including Benz, BMW,Ford ,Range Rover, Mitsubishi, Holden, Chrysler....and no P/Steering problems either. So , like you, after retiring I looked for a vehicle. Tried out then Prado ,Landcruiser , Discovery and looked at the then soon to be released Everest. In the end you know my choice and I am still very happy with my choice. So keep watching and hopefully I can help you to make a good choice for you, regardless of which make it is. Thanks for watching, John

We missed you, John... We also wandered off into SA... On our entire trip, we never passed one Grenadier - see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UsX1vEx8rxs.html. Wilmington is truly a wonderful stop... But, for the region in total - the boss did not know which way to look in the stunning Gorge areas of SA. Pleased you are safe ... J&K.

80 litres at the back of the van doesn’t sound good for stability
@cannyoutdoors
@cannyoutdoors 5 месяцев назад
Yes good point, however I have been careful with the weight. The van is really front heavy as I have the optional 160l water tank up the front, the main locker is over the drawbar and the RTT is front of centre. All loaded still running about 220kg on the towball. Thanks for your comment on this, John
@beyondthehorizon27
@beyondthehorizon27 4 месяца назад
Yes, but unfortunately having 160 kg at the front and 80 at the back is not the same as having 240 at the centre… All heavy stuff needs to be as low as possible and as much in the centre as possible…
