Just as I expected tbh. With a bit more damage to the Redeemers nose but that's ballistics for you. Now, once hull armor is implemented, the Redeemer will make this fight pretty much unfair lol.. The Corsair is an amazing ship, it's just not a legit gunboat built for battle like the Redeemer is. The Corsair to me, is more so built to take advantage of unprotected merchants in piracy, and for the lawful citizen who wants a fighting chance out in the black. Well done people. Well done.
Yes we expected this too tbh - the Redeemer is an actual military vessel with twice the shields and the big guns on turrets. It absolutely should take down a Corsair :) it was a good fight by the corsair crew to stay in the fight as long as they did - and it turns out losing a wing is a HUGE problem for the corsair becauses you lose pretty much all control!
@@Citizen_Kate feel like this shouldn't really matter in space unless there are a number of control thrusters on the wing which I don't believe is the case. Some sort of kinetic force from the explosion when losing the wing possibly?
I light a candle in memory of all the ballistic ammo wasted in this battle.. you may have been fired off randomly into the void of space, far from any sight of a pip, but you will never be forgotten. I pay my respects 🙏 That aside lol... there were some really dope views in this, it was great watching the geometry in the projectile streams as the ships circled.
...Sir Isaac Newton is the deadliest S.O.B in space.... once you fire this hunk of metal. It keeps going, until it hits something. That could be a ship or the planet behind that ship. It could go into deep space and hit somebody else in 10,000 years... :P
It's a fun sequence but AFAIRecall Kyle Hill did the math (or maybe Matt Parker) and basically unless stray munitions fired to completely random direction hit something within a few billion km (think solar system) it's not going to hit anything ever. Having fights like this in planetary orbits and firing towards the planet is not a random direction (also the distance is short compared to billion km)
Oh my god, this is so epic! The wide shots and the music, just a joy to watch. The volume of firepower these ships dished out was fantastic to see, marvelous long fight.
Can't wait until we can actively repair during fights and properly adjust shields and power etc. to compensate for how the fight is going. That'll make these kinds of fights between these kinds of ships even more tactical. S'gonna be amazing!
@@stationbobofficial and that might just be the start of a fight with the soft death system where the crew and ship might still be intact and now you have a FPS combat situation. Can’t wait for it!
Corsair is a really cool addition but I have to admit as a day 1 Redeemer fan the ship has really earned its place in my top 3 favorite sci-fi ships . Such a powerhouse .
In regards to the damage to the Redeemer's nose, it has had a shield desynch issue with the nose since 3.17.0. When you accelerate with the Redeemer, part of the nose briefly sticks out of the shield's coverage. So, keep that in mind in regards to the results.
Practiced 'deemer pilots have taken to accelerating using side strafe and fwd to help negate that. Basically closing the gap by crab walking it in. Having head tracking(or a Tobii with both head and eye) helps a lot with that.
Amazing footage! Perhaps not the most surprising outcome, but it did look like a lot more of the Corsair fire was off-target, compared to the Redeemers.
Corsair needs to point nose at target to get its biggest guns on target. The redeemer does not and can avoid fire while still having its big guns on the corsair.
I believe, but could be wrong, because the turrets are the ones dealing the majority of the damage on the redeemer with the AD5B, they also benefit from the target assist that’s currently in the game for turrets where as the primary damage dealing comes from the pilot on the Corsair who doesn’t have as much in the way of aim assist as he has to remove the gimbals on his mounts to be able to field the AD5Bs
I'm REALLY liking this series and hope you guys keep going through some interesting matchups. A couple highlights for me: Seeing the turrets wiggle off target shows how bloody hard it is to aim those things. Turret gunner skill has a lot to do with any specific outcome and I think that's great. "I forgot how weak the missile tracks are" - deemer crewman "Once that wing came off, the Corsair was finished" - note from Kate, who I believe was observing this match These two go to show what truly makes star citizen different. The ships aren't avatars, they're not our characters. They are what real ships are - collections of dozens of different machines, all wrapped together so that we *think* of them as one thing. In truth it takes all of these smaller machines and moving parts to make it work, and by simulating damage and what not to those small parts, you get a complicated world where every ship has it's own personality and shortcomings. Cant wait for resource management and internal repair to take that experience to the next level!
I love how ship controll loss happens... Went for a lone fight against the Idris alert mission in my Andromeda. And after a very close encounter I rammed a Hammerhead, lost my right 'wing' which made it impossible to yaw, then he shot my engine off leaving me with 3 and crippling my ship completely... Tried escaping with my Merlin, which sadly got stuck on takeoff aaand when the Connie blew it took the Merlin too, leaving me stranded in space to slowly die... God I love this game, and this video kicks ass and shows just how epic fights are here.
An epic fight. The result was anticipated by all i think but i am sure the Redeemer crew were delighted with the quality and length of engagement. The film footage does the fight justice. I think the takeaway is that for venturing on missions into Pyro the Corsair and Connie are a must have in fleet. Yes for CAS the Redeemer and fighters would provide solid defence of an asset but the more mobile task and for bringing down pirates the Corsair looks just the ticket. Lets pray now for no nerf!
I would find it interesting as well to see how ships that would try and flee engagement or not try to fight directly with the corsair and how they fair in evading it. The ships I was thinking of were its other competitors in size class the MSR and the 400i. We are always told that their elusive abilities are what increase their survivability, and you have done such a wonderful job with these vs videos with the corsair.
Wow I didn't expect the corsair to completely lose control with a wing out, I'll have to be extra careful I suppose although I don't usually pick fights with large military craft. Good video, great job.
I've had my Corsair wing with the missiles blown off and it handled fine still, just lost the rest of my missile payload. Depends how much damage is onto the thruster and engine modules
I missed the fight, but getting to watch this video really made up for it, the Redeemer really showed why its a dedicated military gunship. Very much a flying tank/gunship.
@@epikoperfectnoob6408 Thsre was quite a large batch of whining threads on Spectrum about the Coraair being OP with the amount of pilot firepower it has. But how is the Redeemer OP? It's a military gunship, it does its exact job very well.
@@CyrusKazan i mean rhe corsair will be a money maker taking out all the hardest missions with a lone pilot versus rhe redeemer that needs at least 1 or 2 gunners
@@ROrneli Oh yeah, it's a money printer to be sure. But PvE doesn't really matter that much. A single player light fighter will ruin the Corsair's day.
I love how much firepower both of these ships spew out! You should throw in a Hammerhead as well for even more dakka! I don't think the outcome of this fight was ever in dispute though. The Redeemer is a military gunship built solely for battle and nothing but battle. The Corsair is a multirole freighter that can double as a gunship. It is a totally legitimate "expedition" ship meant to hunt down cargo haulers. It is not meant to go toe to toe with military warships like the Redeemer (although it probably could if it had some support).
That went how I expected. With a good pilot on the Redeemers stick, they can keep nearly all the gunners presented with the target at all times. The Corsair pilot is at the mercy of it's turn rate to keep those S5's on target. Especially dangerous when a 'deemers pilot takes the fight up close and personal.
Amazing video, camera ship makes all the difference. Long way from Thargoid hunting now :P Really looking forward to seeing stuff from Pyro, new flight model, damage model etc. Bright future and all that.
This was a really great video, and my favorite presentation/camera work so far in the series! Kudos to the 3rd “camera” ship, got some really cinematic shots that also are of great value for learning tactical positioning (getting that “birds eye view”). Really great series!
Great vid, great piloting in both sides. I really like this Vs. format, it's fun to watch and provides great perspective. Also Redeemer vs. Corsair is basically Wolfhound vs Wolf. Still a great match. edit. Forgot to add...sooo much Dakka
Love this little series and this is the second video where I have seen the deemed come out on top of a very close battle. I guess I'll keep her but I need an elite crew to man the systems!
That is one of the coolest fights I have watched on this platform! Beautifully shot and edited. I still love my 'deemer even if finding crew is always a hassle with it.
Well that was expected, I would have been surprised if the Redeemer lost this fight, great battle, more multi crew fights! Very cool vs videos more please 😁
thx for your very nice content! thats the reason why i have a redeemer too :) with laser i think it also eats 3 corsairs, consider the redeemer is not a multi-purpose ship like the connie & corsair, the redeemer was built exclusively for "close quarters battle"
It appeared like the Corsair Pilot and gunners couldn't keep up with the Redeemer. Redeemer shots were almost always on mark but Corsair was usually off. Which is definitely to be expected since they're both nose firing boats but the Redeemer is smaller and faster.
I was 99% sure the Redeemer would win this, its just more maneuverable and earlier trying the corsair out myself similarly (flying brick), but I wanted to see what skilled pilots & crews could do. Good job I enjoy that thanks.
The Corsair has a proper cargo bay and internal space. Give a little, take a little. What makes the Redeemer so good is that it's a heavy ship with a medium signature.
nice cinematic presentation of that brrrrrrrt :) I was wondering what happens if you use 4X S5 omnisky 2x Omnisky S4 on both redeemer & Corsair (smal turrets can be default) ------ in theory due to much greater accuracy the fight should end very quickly and in favor of redeemer too - greater capacitor, more shields, and agility because of turrent mounts?
I am watching this channel now for a while. And I absolutely love it. I just can stop wondering who will is. He never appears anywhere. Is will actually an person? Or is will more a symbol for the incomplete parts of the came that we need to work on. Like a symbolic reflection of ourselves in the verse. - Will. Who is will? And why does will not want to play star citizen? I think some mysteries will never be uncovered.
haha Will is my husband :) Once upon a time the channel covered Elite Dangerous and he used to play back then but he prefers console games like Dark Souls etc so didn't jump over to SC with me :P
im loving the "Corsair Vs ShipX" series. i lost a small wing the other day and flat out couldnt fly properly. Now we know that losing the big wing is death. Could we have corsair vs freelancer mis as the corsair has huge fire power but the the freelancer should be able to get out and around to attack from the side
Amazing video but expectable. As far as I know, redeemer is a fully fledged fight ship, which sole purpose is fighting, when corsair is an attack and traveler ship. You can see it from its so many front facing guns. And redeemer don't even have its heavy armor yet... Still it was a real cool video, showing what too-bold-for-their-good pirates would face if they tried to attack the worst ship to attack XD
While the firepower was amazing, I was most impressed by the pilot of the Redeemer. The maneuvers they were pulling was mind-boggling. It may have been just a trick of the perspective, but I got the impression that the Redeemer out-flew the Corsair by a pretty wide margin.
The Redeemer is a bit more maneuverable than the Corsair. There are other videos beginning to come out of others flying the Corsair and the results seem about the same.
Kate (Will) - really enjoying this series with the Corsair. I'm curious if the Corsair would benefit from keeping its gimbal though. Have you guys considered a few of these matches with gimbaled main guns?
Nice one. Good that the dedicated gunship wins out. Ships in star citizen always feel so bullet spongy to me. I hope with more detailed component damage in the future that will somewhat change. Where a ship might not explode super fast, but can be disabled much faster than this long winded fights where you have to dumb magazine upon magazine into a single ship.
Yeah we went in expecting the Redeemer to win - we were just curious by how much and also commentors in the other videos requested this fight so we figured ti was worth a shot! :)
@@Citizen_Kate the opportunities for versus matches are quite high in the game even now. Like others have said, definite content opportunity (at least on and off).
Went as it should have. Redeemer doesn't have a vehicle hanger and is meant for military use. Losing to the redeemer doesn't make the Corsair a bad ship.
nobody is claiming that - why does everybody think we're trying to 'say' sometihng with these videos. it's jsut a fun fight showing a thing that happened.
@@Citizen_Kate lol, I don't think anyone said it, I'm just so used to the whiners in the community wanting everything to be unrealistically "balanced".
I'd be interested the to see these go at it with energy cannon loadouts, the ballistic repeaters look cool but they don't do as much damage through the shield and the deemer had shields up for most of that engagement.
well the point of ballsitics in PVP is that they do damage regardless of shields, where laser weapons need shields down to do damage. yes some damage is lost to shields but with ballsitics at least you are always doing some damage
I'll rephrase, PvP isn't common between large ships and is more of the domain of the fighters at present. Historically ballistics have been chosen because as you say the push through shields with reduced damage to the hull but do less damage to the shields than beam weapons. It works with fighters because the shield pools and HP are lower so actually removing the shields and doing full hull damage doesn't take that long. That is not as true for larger ship combat. In you video the Redeemer sustain hits but the duel S3's maintained it's shields. The Corsair was doing an okay job of it too until it lost its side shield and then full ballistic hull damage was achieved. What I'm really asking is if the TTK with ballistics with larger ships actually faster given the prolonged time the shields are up reducing the ballistic damage over time. Rather than using energy repeaters/cannons that can just remove the shields much faster.
I love how the ships are facing each other head on but the Corsairs rear shield drops first. What is it with Drake and it's uncontrollability when taking any form of damage? Keen to see this comparison when the new flight model drops because right now, I feel that they have overlooked a lot of things on the way it behaves in flight. That and because I own a Corsair and I am biased but the fact that a C2 Hercules performs better than a Corsair despite being over 10 times its weight tells me that something is seriously wrong.
IIRC it's caused by shield desync in this patch - basically the shields are not synced with the ship some times so it gets a bit wierd with whcih faces drop. I could be wrong though, i dont often do a lot of ship stuff :D
Partly desync as Katie mentioned, but also due to the ships orbiting each other, curving the shots from the ship's frame of reference. So a round can miss the front, but hit the rear, the corsair essentially flys into the projectile path (from the bullet's pov)
The rear shield that covers most of the wings, the nose is covered by the front, and the front of the wings since its midship, is actually covered by the side shields. That's why you see the rear shield fall first, then the right wings front, which is the right-side shield, goes down second. I haven't test it with direct fire on the Corsair specifically, but we have tested this on many large ships. It's how the 'wrapped' shields work. I think I'd prefer a bubble, so the directional thing was easy to read and counter.
as told before, everybody gangsta until Redeemer shows up.. Its just armed space fortress, guarding the mighty fridge :D .. Thb corsair did a decent job considering its class and role, Maybe do it in Microtech atmosphere?
For an expeditionary vs straight up gunship, corsair holds up pretty well I'd say. Redeemer is built to shred anything that isn't military grade and half the military grade stuff at that. So this is nice!
Pretty impressive how close the fight between RSI explorer connie did against the Drake one. Oh, and that's was the fight without the connie using it's snub craft.
I was playing with a redeemer this morning here as well and was impressed with the firepower of it with its shield sans all laser (a stock redeemer has two ballistic guns) and no turret gunner. I thought the newer corsair in your video would beat it just by guns. The maneuverability of the redeemer... is more comparable with the corsair for sure. I like these match ups though as it's good to see how ships do when faced off with each other. Can you guys do a heavy fighter match up if you haven't already? It's looking more and more to me that the vanguards are still the best heavy single fighters...
Considering the allrounder capabilities of the Corsair, Ramp that can fit many vehicles, cargo and or personnell, floodlight under the ship, highest pilot DPS in the game atm, the Corsair is a great ship, although I like the style of the Redeemer way more.
Corsair pilot was missing a ton of shots. New ship though so have to get use to the handling. Entertaining fight though. Didn't expect the Corsair to lose control like that
Still trying to decide if gimbled 4's would have been better. It felt like I may have landed twice as many shots if gimbled, though 4's are 40% less hp... roughly
I use 4 m7a and 2 m6a fixed setup. Tried a few missions from hard to ert. Feels better than fast firing size 4 guns. Corsier need to make shots count since she cannot stay on target for too long against small targets.
I feel this match up is a bit like the Corsair Vs connie but in reverse. The Corsair did indeed to fairly well against an actual gunship and this very much proves that it doesn’t need a nerf as it is just a powerful as it is weak.
Kate I think a fight done in this format between the Redeemer VS Connie would be very eye opening for some people here still trying to paint the picture the corsair is too OP despite their Connies being very close. I think the connie would put up a similar fight maybe just a little shorter than this one, but with the snub craft I think the connie could actually win, but it would be insanely close if that was the case.
I feel like this was way closer than it should have been. To classify the Corsair as an explorer when it goes head to head with one of premier gunships in the game somethings wrong. I know the Redeemer will get beefier when armor comes into the game but still this was surprising to me that it lasted as long as it did. Good show.
I think the lore reason for the guns and hull hp is that drake designed it intentionally for the piracy market and gave it a legal purpose of exploration to justify it’s existence
i mean, its a nice video, but look at every clip of the gunners...their aim struggles a lot. Dont know if its due to performance issues or lack of control, but if you hit shots, it wouldn last that long. Also in a redeemer you would not hold your nose to the enemy all the time and use your shields, tower freedom and agility way more to make this a clear win.
@@do_minguezI was thinking the same thing. The Redeemer has the option to not try and face-tank the whole fight, but it makes a nicer fight on-screen to have them sorta twirl and spray that way. I've not had too many people in the turrets that can really aim all that great especially if you are really turning and fighting as the pilot so I think it's kinda rare to get that really and they are not snipers. It's more a cone of lead so a lot of bullets miss no matter what. I'm just thrilled if I can get anyone at all in the turrets.
and now I am wondering if the MSR can outmaneuver the Corsair and still win despite its meager firepower and shields. After all, you just do not need to get into that deadly fireing arc of the pilot.
@@robertprice965 No, they don't have a chance, we are considering demonstrating, but it is time consuming and that didn't seem fun for those we had participating. Maybe in the future though...
Well that would be a big argument, but yeah, we have all only been flying the Corsair for under a week and it has, 'unique' handling characteristics. But a bigger factor was that we went with largest guns possible and gimbal s may have been a better choice, as keeping the nose pointed at the Redeemer was very difficult, and balustcs are slower rounds. The Redeemers turrets could hit us from any direction.
The Corsair had 4x size 5 ballistic repeaters and 2x size 4 ballistic repeaters on the wings. 3 turrets with 2x size 2 laser repeaters, and 32x size 1 Taskforce missiles. Redeemer's big turrets had Size 5 ballistics, not sure the others.
Awesome Vid! Only thing I really see with this fight that makes me slightly cringe is that it is still a 3v4...so it really isn't even. In actuality, that 4th pilot would almost always take a light fighter instead of the snub. But from a pure ship v ship standpoint, this is an excellent video and fight in so many ways. very entertaining too, as always 🙂
well then you wouldn't be comparing ships you'd be comparing crews.. They wanted to test what a fully crewed deemer can do vs fully crewed corsair... it doesnt mater how many people are in the ship it only matters that the ship's maximum combat output is achieved.... Your point is illogical - I might be testing a MSR vs a hurricane, does that mean the hurricane is at a disadvantage for less crew... no.... By your logic because the MSR would take 3 crew apposed to the hurricane's 2 then a 3rd man for team hurricane should be fighting in a fighter? Yet the hurricane would beat the MSR 10/10 times with same skilled crews alone.
