I'm not a fan of how they are downplaying the Flood. A smarter move would be to just have a new threat start small, and then snow ball into a avalanche due to ignorance, with the threat if it reached the flood, That could lead world changing event.

Cortana's statement is a slap in the face to anyone who did Halo 1's The Library on Legendary difficulty. "More dangerous" my ass. Nothing more dangerous than a combat form with a rocket launcher while a dozen other combat forms keep trying to kill you at the same time.

I really like the direction they went with Cortana in Halo Infinite. Like they couldn't really rehabilitate a trashfire, but they at least gave her actions some weight, even on Chief.

They need to bring back the gravemind and flood. Cortana downplaying is weird when the games went through so much to stop them.

How tf did 343 manage to not add the flood AGAIN?! FFS we all wanted to fight the flood and apparently they arent even in the campaign.

They kind of mess up saying the endless are worse than the flood. If the endless are precursors, than they are not worse as the Forerunners capture them all, but lost to the flood and use the Halos to repopulate the galaxy.

A vengeful Precursor would be worse imo, like the Timeless One whose knowledge drove many ancient humans to suicide upon simply hearing it. How this game turned out and 343’s recommitment to doing things well by the community has me thinking they aren’t simply downplaying the Flood as they would likely have realized that this wouldn’t be well received. I’m really interested to see where this goes, careful optimism 🤞🏼

Well it would have to be something that can command and control the flood be Near immortal and extremely resilient just like the flood And something that's can't be reasoned with just like the flood Something just tells me this is just classic bad modern day writing writing

This made me very annoyed cuz no matter how powerful whatever the things contained are, the flood can take them for themselves, plus everything that the forerunners left behind was to stop the flood, plus the flood are made out of a precursor, and it is this very same precursor who gave information to scientists regarding floods true nature that caused those scientist to go mad. Also the flood are the ultimate test for the mantle of responsibility, if you can find a way to defeat them fully you gain the mantle, as that precursor envisioned.

A halo ring can't/didn't kill it, it's smarter than an A.I., and maybe it has some ability to manipulate time; worse than the flood though? Perhaps... perhaps. It would be an awkward thing to introduce a new species that isn't anything other than a Precursor, so who else could it be?

If you read deep enough about the flood, it's extremely reasonable to assume that they are an extension of the universe made to nourish itself through the pain and suffering of all life in the galaxy. It feels kinda cheap to take the idea that existence itself will use all sentience as a fuel in complete disregard of empathy and suffering, and just say "yea but Greg and his gang over here are worse"

I can’t even thing in something worse than flood out of the halo universe. They don’t even kill you, they kept your memories and your consciousness. If there’s a heaven or hell, once you’re consumed by the flood you will never get there.

I hope the worse than the flood statement is meant to demonstrate that the endless actually defeated the forerunners and made them extinct. They could show that the flood weakened them enough for the endless to beat them, but the endless have the potential to make the flood unstoppable, (especially considering their immunity to the Halo Effect).

Some fans forget - the Flood are the Precursors in all but true form, as they ground themselves to dust to survive the Forerunners only for the dust to be corrupted

I keep looking at the comments and thinking man, the flood was much much more interesting before halo 4 and 5, when they weren't from the precursors, they were some kind of extra galactic threat, and humans MAY have been the forerunners. The flood were a great threat/counter to a tier 1 civilization like the forerunners because they represent the opposite of the capability/decadence of that civilization. One that can create star systems from raw materials is susceptible to an Infection that corrupts its machines and tools (IE people), using their own mastery and technology against them, like the replicators in stargate, I mean I hate to say it but a Year before halo, Homeworld explored the idea of an aggressive alien parasite that could convert organic and inorganic matter to its whims and made its origins just as mysterious (IE came from hyperspace and no other information is provided), and they did it WELL, it was hunger incarnate, the bigger it got the Smarter it got, the gravemind is cool, but is sort of seemed like they had to give the flood SOME kind of face or it was just a bug for us to stomp, and im pretty sure most of us can agree that adding the gravemind made the game kind of just grind to a halt for a few levels. The Beast (homeworld) has alot of parallels to the gravemind from halo such as cutting deals and using its enemies against it but it felt so much more like a MONSTER that was barely holding itself back from consuming everything because for just a few scant moments it couldn't tackle this big of a meal just yet. Having the gravemind be there and just whisk you away on jobs stole that energy away from it, what they did in halo 3 helped but yeah, like the beast it should have always been just a voice for us to hear the unknown intelligence leading the flood. By producing a 'there are things worse than the flood' you imply that there were things the forerunners were incapable of handling that were bigger than the flood. How could a civilization that nearly lost the entire galaxy to the flood handle something worse? What would be worse? Creatures that consume worlds? the flood does that. How about convert your forces to them/mindcontrol, oh the flood does that. Consume stars? well the forerunners blew up stars to fight the flood so what? what do we get that's bigger in scale? Not much. Smaller perhaps? Shapeshifters like from Star Trek, or legitimately another galactic civilization? Creepy monsters from beyond space and time? I dunno man its just not so fun anymore.

"Worse than the Flood" to me, implies three things/possibilities: First, that, whatever the lifeform(s) is, it's ancient, like, potentially start-of-universe ancient. Two, whatever "it" is, would or could be immune to the Halo machines effect, which would automatically make it dangerous to the Forerunners. And Third, it could or would be immune to the Flood.

There are things worse than the flood? I really feel like cartana is underestimating just how dangerous the flood can really get. I don't mind if they introduce new villains and new threats but we have never seen the flood at the peak of its evolution in the games, only in the books.. We've only seen the feral stage and the coordinated stage in halos 1 to 3 and halo wars 1 to 2 but the 3rd stage we never saw and I feel like if we were to see the flood at its peak I think everyone in the galaxy would need a miracle to survive.

[Spoilers] The Endless cannot be the Precursors. The wording of the Harbinger Lady thing indicates such. The Forerunners were above them. But the Forerunners were for some reason afraid of them, which we arent quite sure why yet. Cortana reactived The Domain and thus was able to learn about The Endless through it, this is why The Monitor was confused of how Cortana would know about what was hidden in The Ring, The Monitor did not know The Domain was reactivated. The Endless cannot be the Precursors, but they could be from them. Humanity was below the Forerunners as well, but the Forerunners and Humanity were made by the Precursors. Hidden lore points towards the Endless being nigh impossible to actually kill, The Halos apparently held no affect on them, the same way it could not affect The Flood, which is why my theory is they are also Precursor in origin, but not Precursors themselves. The Endless were imprisoned by The Forerunners for some reason, a reason the Harbinger suggests was unfounded verdicts, meaning it wasnt an action that happened that the Forerunners were afraid of, it was the capacity of The Endless. Something The Endless could do scared the hell out of the Forerunners, open warfare clearly wasnt the way to handle it, otherwise they wouldve killed them, so its safe to assume the Endless are very dangerous and or very durable. The Harbinger herself does not appear to be an Endless being, or at least one that was truly targetted by the Forerunners, as her cell was not in the same place or same catalog as the Endless' prison seen in the very end credits. Something set her apart from them. My theory is thus: The Endless are another species, likely created by the Precursors as another potential race to uphold the Mantle, however they were likely a much later made species compared to Humanity and the Forerunners as the Forerunners were first unaware of them existing. There are Precursors, like Forerunners, that did survive the Genocides of their people. However most of them left the galaxy altogether, however it is possible some Precursors survived within the galaxy, or returned to it long after the Forerunners stopped searching for them, this could be a period that The Endless were created. The Endless cannot be affected by Halo, like the Flood, which makes me believe they could have been of similar origin to The Flood, designed to eradicate the Forerunners by a vengeful Precursor. It is also obvious the Forerunners did not want to fight the Endless directly, as they would have obliterated them if they could, something held their aggression back from doing so, likely some form of trait the Endless have. They could be either extremely volative and or extremely hard to kill, as is evident in being able to survive the Halos. My bet is that they are ridiculously hard to kill, as the name implies for them. Endless shouldnt really refer to countless numbers, as thatd just be the same concept as The Flood, to be a limitless foe. So I believe it is pointing at them being nigh impossible to get rid of as individuals, especially since immense numbers would be hard for one Installation to contain in those specialized cataloged cells.

I really hope they don’t mess up the Endless as a faction. Now they have big shoes to fill when we are told they are worse than the Flood. Nothing is suppose to be worse than the flood.

Oh yes, something worse then the super parasitic hiveminded mass of biological terror. Is all seriousness though, Flood has NOTHING on some of things I've seen in games and anime. Looking at it from a biological perspective, yea it's terrifying. But then there are things that make the Flood look downright forgiving compared to some monstrosities. There is a reason they rank lower on the danger scale for me then say the Heartless from Kingdom Hearts. Which may SEEM weird until you realize just endless tide the Heartless actually are. They need nothing but Negative emotions to form. That it, and they can't be truly destroyed, they keep coming back. And they will keep coming back until the end of time. A some point, you can destroy the Flood for good. But no matter how much you fight the Heartless, they will keep coming because there is ALWAYS Darkness in people's hearts. No matter the species, no matter how small that shadow is. It can restart the tide. And that's not even mentioning the Realm of Darkness. And there are thing even more dangerous then them! Just look at Evangelion, or Final Fantasy series!

The Flood are the "big bad" of the Halo universe: Trying to "one up" that threat with something new reeks of awful and amateurish writing. Anyway, speculations? I think it might be some remnant of Ancient Humanity in some form -- a faction or creation of them so terrible that even the aborted storyline's villain (you know, the Saturday morning cartoon guy) from Halo 4 risked using, despite his hard-on for converting Ancient and modern humanity into drones to fight the Flood.

The game was fun but the story was a colossal disappointment. Walked over Halo 4, 5 and Wars 2. Infinite's campaign is like TROS.
