Halo Infinite Ending - Cortana says Goodbye to Master Chief (2021) 

When she asks "Are you alright?" You can literally feel the deafening silence as his world is torn apart by losing her again, this time for good.

Not only did Cheif lose Cortana, every OG halo fan lost cortana, from Halo CE as a kid all the way to Halo Infinite as a full grown adult. What a journey

You can tell the Chief was fighting back those tears. He misses his friend so much. The only thing that ever treated him like a human being instead of a weapon.

I’m not gonna lie the Cortana cut scene of her saying goodbye in this game Is one of the most emotional cut scenes in video games in my opinion

The ending is very telling. Throughout the campaign we saw Cortana in her youth. Helpful, playful, a little worried about the situation, more concerned about others than herself, and capable. In the end we see a recording of Cortana, playing with Chief after she sacrificed herself to try and make things right, and she is wearing her old outfit. This one scene we can see Cortana's playful and chipper sides. "Weapon" may not be the Cortana we knew but she is close enough.

They made her beautiful here. And sincere. They gave us a moment with our Cortana. Just one last time. I greatly appreciate that.

I’m going to be honest, Cortana saying goodbye to Master Chief got to me. I just loved the campaign of playing the first 4 games as those two bonded like a married couple. Chief shows that he is truly human because he loved her. This scene gave me closure on Cortana. I’m glad she fulfilled her mission to protect Master Chief even if it meant sacrificing herself. Her final act was a noble one.

I'm probably wrong but it kinda felt like cortana was 343 talking to old school halo fans, just a little. "But this isn't an end. It's a chance to make amends. To rectify mistakes. And it starts here" Eh. Oh well, what do I know? Good campaign, really enjoyed playing halo again for the first time in a long time. Multiplayer is fun too.

Real Halo fans teared up during this scene. Plain and simple.

Notice how she vanished by walking "into" Chief? Like, she reunited with his soul.

Cortanas a real homie. After the break up she helps her ex out with another date.

n spite of it's flaws, Halo Infinite will always have a special place in my heart. Having lost my girlfriend to suicide, I can entirely relate to Master Chief's sorrow upon losing Cortana. His emotions affects him as much as my own. The writer did such an excellent job at fleshing out Chief's coping with his loss, not sugarcoating it in the least. Sometimes I can't help but feel like I could've done something more to help my beloved.

Man there's something about how warmly/appreciatively and the not completely formal way Chief says "good work, soldier" at 6:03 - idk it just feels so wholesome. He couldn't give the hug back but he didn't deny the hug and still was able to express his human side. Loved the writing of this game and how they humanized Chief more. Esparza is also a fantastic character and compliment to Chief.

So Cortana really did kill herself in the end. After everything she did, destroying Sydney, and Space Stations, entire planets, only to have a change of heart when she meets a fresh copy of herself.

Was really hope for a redemption of cortana and to get her whole but I guess she's gone for good now. Rip

Idk which is sadder this moment or the halo 4 goodbye moment. Cause this goodbye chief just listened and never got to say goodbye, but in halo 4 he got to say goodbye but the shock of her “dying” in halo 4 got me too. I love both tbh tho

Well, the good news is Cortana lives on to some extent. The bad news? Atriox is alive and he is PISSED.

When cortana apologizes to chief in a way it feels like 343 apologizing to the fans for how they screwed up before with the franchise

Cortana calling him Master Chief instead of john really bothered me.

This series has always had a curious way of aligning with the events in my real life. Cortana perfectly represents the lifelong soulmate I lost when her heart grew dark and manipulative. She became corrupted by hard drugs and delusions of grandeur. She turned from a best friend and true love to my mortal enemy. It truly felt as if she had died and all that remained was a maniacal monster. I spent ten years hating her until I met someone new - someone a lot like who she once was, but 100x better. My new partner is represented quite accurately by "the weapon." Seven months after we started dating, a friend of mine sent me a voice message from my ex before she moved far away to another country. She apologized profusely for everything she had put me through. She said "I'll never be able to forgive myself for destroying something so perfect, something that brought true meaning to my life. I'll never have another 'us.' And I'll never deserve it. But you'll find new love, new happiness. You'll grow far beyond the chaos I've caused you. And thats all that matters now." That voice message gave me the exact same combination of sadness, goosebumps, and closure as this scene did with Cortana's final goodbye. Perhaps the same things 117 would have felt in this moment. Life truly does align with art, and vice versa.

They made halo 4 and 5 right. I loved infonite so much 😍😍😍. Although I did feel like they took some gameplay tools out of Doom Eternal like the meathook and the quick dash, you can really see the influence of Doom since Microsoft acquired Bethesda

When Echo-216 hugs Master Chief you see Chief almost hugging him back, showing that he’s more than just a soldier and a machine 🥲

The sadness, relief, and regret I feel watching this as a long time fan…Not dissimilar from watching an old dog pass away in your arms with a puppy waiting for you at home. You won’t be alone, but you will grieve. You’re glad how things ended, but not that they did. The bond was real…And now…There’s a them sized hole that nothing can fill, all the while carving a new space in your heart beside it. Pain. Beautiful pain.

I’ve been with the franchise from day one.. even before day one, I got to play the very first beta test on the original version of the game.. yeah, this is quite an emotional video

Its a chance to make amends, to rectify mistakes. Its ok 343, we forgive you. Now please if you could kindly return the king of video games to glory.

Never forget she destroyed the Brute homeworld , glassed Australia and ordered a destruction of a Spartan 4 station. You dont forgive someone for that. Koalas and Kangaroos are extinct thanks to her

So 343 killed Cortana off at the end of halo 4, in the best moment of that game, just to bring her back as the main villain of halo 5, not explain way she turned to the dark side, then kill her off screen in halo infinite, and redo the ending they did in halo 4 with a recording she left. Why couldn’t they just leave her dead and make Atriox, Jul or Didact the main villain going forward

The leadup to this moment had issues and coulda been improved, the rest of the game had issues. But THIS moment right here, was beautifully done. Shame its trapped within a project in dire need of some help.

I think the reaction of chief was also a sort of incapacitation of how we would react just, nothing really, a good bye taken to heart.

After several months, we still wondered what is the name Weapon "Cortana 2.0". In theory, I think I know what the name Weapon has chosen is: Samuelle. To pay tribute to Samuel, John's best friend. Without forgetting that the first name Samuel/le is considered as the name of a God/Goddess and for a little reminder: Atriox had said "I have no use for a failed goddess" of course, he is applied to Cortana

My only request is that in the next game they do NOT let Weapon take up the name Cortana, let's not copycat, she needs something new and symbolic, secondly, since they brought up The Flood again, I can't be the only one that wants to see a re-emergence of that particular threat, they're not gone, just contained, like The Endless, maybe we'll get lucky and see an overlap of the two in the next game

Chief: "We finish the fight." 343: "The story DLCs are canceled." Chief: "I guess the fight is finished."

Dang his body language shows this man has been beaten down yet again. He's devastated for a 2nd time over the fact that Cortana truly is officially gone, and impossible to save now after she gave herself up to save him and the weapon.

years later....Cortana's farewell still nearly brings me to tears....

I just thought of something, weapon was supposed to self delete after her mission with it was over, what if the reason she didn't is because Cortana reprogrammed her and changed that so chief would have another AI companion after she was gone.

When she chose to name herself Cortana…and we all know she did…I just started bawling.

Goodbye Cortana thanks for all the memories you will be missed but never forgotten

I wasnt expecting this when i played. Nearly got me.

I was born in 2000, not an older halo fan by any means, but I have grown up with this franchise. First played H1/H2 in 2005 when my dad decided I was old enough to play without volume. I’d sneak into the living room after he slept and restart with sound, it was amazing. Halo 3 was something special. Even as a 6 & 1/2 year old, I knew the significance of the game and I HAD to get it. I recall watching my older cousin (born in 88) play the beta version, which I mistook for the real game. Let’s just say that Christmas the 7 year old got a legendary edition of H3 from Costco, while he got something I do not recall.. he was severely disappointed. His disappointment was the same moment that launched 4 years of fun for me. I made so many friends. I was one of the first people in my school to play Halo and I was ahead of the f’ing game. 2008-09 I got some school mates who started playing and oh boy was it fun. I already had live but wasn’t using it except for playing as P2 on multiplayer. I played Halo with my dad, with my siblings, with friends I haven’t spoke to in years, even with coworkers of my parents (they were never creepy, so chill). Halo was just that for so long. It was much about the campaign as it was about the people you interacted with and made friendships with online. While H2 started that, and I was a little too young for that.. Halo has been a big part of my childhood and now into early adulthood. Though 5 was booty, I’m happy 343 made 4 and Infinite decent in their stories. Much love to any Halo fans who spent hours on custom games back in the day. To anyone who partied up to complete weekly challenges for campaign. And to anyone who connected with any aspect of the game. This game may not be in the state it was from H2-Reach, but be thankful that it’s still around. I’m glad I stuck around. I hope the next story has plenty of emotion.

In "Halo: The Master Chief Collection" before they went out to their mission Cortana asked Master Chief one question "Before this is over, tell me who among us is the machine" I wish that got answered here, with Master Chief telling Cortana "I'm sorry Cortana. I failed you. For this time, I AM the one that acted as THE MACHINE."

I didn't expect halo to hurt me like this XD. Also the "This is a really bad idea!" was perfect here.

I think in some way, this was also 343i speaking to the Halo fan base. Too bad the launch wasn’t as great as it could’ve been. We could’ve remembered that as the moment 343 turned things around.

I really don't think she's coming back guys xD that would be really ridiculous. The whole point of "The Weapon" is that she's the new Cortana. This has to be the last goodbye. It would get old fast if they tried to kill her and bring her back AGAIN. Plus it's better this way for her redemption also being a sacrifice.

And this is why I will continue to play the original halos to keep Cortana and John together lol

I swear this whole monologue was 343i or better yet Bonnie Ross apologizing for diverting away from the fans and the original games. Almost word for word. "This isn't an end, but a chance to rectify mistakes. And it starts here." "I was wrong, I thought that I could do this on my own. (Bonnie and 343i keeping all Halo licensing to themselves and trying to handle a whole universe of games). But I forgot that the whole point of all this. The entire reason I chose you (entire reason 343i was founded) in the first place was that we (343i and fans) are supposed to be a team." "In these final moments (last game) I know what my final mission (goal) is. I need to make sure that you two (fans, future developers, dept heads) learn from my mistakes. Become stronger because of them." If only this game turned out better than what it was. I can only hope that whatever happens, Halo comes back stronger than ever with a development team behind it that cares deeply for what bungie envisioned.

Halo Infinite has been like Halo 3 for me all over again, except I was crying a little bit at the end this time. I know we all give a lot of crap to Halo 5 for it's story but, in all honesty, it worked to build up this moment in the same way that Halo 2's ending left us waiting for 3. It has been an amazing time to be alive, just to be a part of this story.

This was a great campaign and it’s in my top 3. Haters just hate cuz it’s different and had to retcon a lot of things from 4 and 5.

This and noble 6's death hits the hardest, you build a very close connection with them and then all of a sudden they get killed off

This is sad indeed. Cortana made Master Chief promise to not replace her. He did. The copy idea is sloppy writing. The cliff hanger of her not choosing a name is a cheap starting point for the next game. Lastly, Chief and Cortanas relationship seemed to be sold short. I think he moved on too quick, and the last title she gave him was Master Chief. A more personal response would have been his name, suggesting an intimate friendship. Real halo fans dislike halo after Reach. Reach was the last true halo game. The only thing that 343 got right was the MCC.

Should not have gone down this rabbit hole in the first place. They should have found a way to cure her rampancy and keep with the chief for future games. 343 taking over was always gonna be a disaster. Taking control of something they never truly understood. Its like me buying the rights to a book and then writing a sequel to it and wondering why the fans won't love it. Bungie made it, they was the genius behind it. Unless they hire vast majority of the writers and developers from the time it is going to be so difficult to encapsulate the atmosphere and deliver a consistent story. God knows how people who worked on reach - odst actually feel about this franchise.
