I just found your channel, a few years ago I read in practical classics about a guy getting an old Capri, never seen it run, he used 2 12v batteries to get the engine to start and it worked
As our American cousins would say, you need to fire the parts canon at it! Change pretty much everything you can, get the starter and carb both rebuilt. Someone suggested taking the plugs out and putting oil in the barrels which is a good idea. With a decent battery that starter should turn the engine over at a decent rate. Because it isn’t, the starter is suspect and the motor could well be gummed up after standing for so long.
Good comments from Denis below. I've been where you are with motors; but it sounds like this is in basically good health. Make sure you're giving it a really strong crank; good battery, good starter. Otherwise you're not giving yourself a good chance. Assuming the timing is basically in the zone and your exhaust isn't blocked, might be time to look into the carburettor......FWIW I agree with Denis; I'd check the timing next.
That's not a big fail bro. Just a bump in the road. That sounded so so close and i KNOW you will get this done in time. Don't be disheartened, you've got this! Great editing as well. A real family affair. I'll look forward to the next video.
Courtney is such a tease XD yeah do what you can when you can can't tackle everything all at once even though you definitely would if you could lol loving your journey cuz p.s she's right where she needs to be a caring owner 👍
The battery is of my daily lwb high roof van might be the starter brushes are corroded and need cleaning thanks for the advice tho I will give it another try soon just need to finish the work on my bulkhead have you seen all the videos on my cortina restoration:)
Firstly, check static ignition timing, sounds like it may be too far advanced.remove starter and clean all internals, making sure U scrape the grooves in the commutator as they tend to fill with carbon as brushes wear.rig up and overhead fuel feed,(eliminates the need for a fuel pump) then double check the firing order, these old girls are pretty bomb proof, but they need every helping hand U can give to wake them.hope this helps.
thank you i will take all your advice and will do a retry at some point but really need to get back onto my bulkhead and get it done and painted :) but wont take me long
I am working on a similar car in Denmark. And I am nearly done. This car had however only 10% af the rust in yours. I am admiring your efforts. My car will be as close to "PNO 565R" from the 70 ties "Famous Five" TV series.
thats awesome that you neally done and thank you yeah i will get there one bit at a time :) she will be saved i have the new chassis now and 2.3 rear axle and half shafts i will be getting back on the body asap once it stops raining lol do you have a youtube with the car on i would liek to see a pic of your car you can send it to the email address on my youtube page
Nearly Adam mate she’s trying to wake up , it’s not a fail you got her turning over poor old things been asleep for years she’s a princess and needs a bit of coaxing and a bit of fine tuning but definitely think she will go can’t wait to see the smile on your face when she bursts into life again 👍
thank you and yes it would be a day to rember hehehe i will try again soon just want to do more work to the body im falling beind on it lol need to finish up that bulkhead and get it painted and protected then might think about engine again hehe
Easy start may help as long as you dont use it too often. It sounds like the timing may need checking - somebody may have messed with the dizzy in the past.
Make sure you dont have nautral confused with a gear..put in park and check underneath she fully locked back. You could disconnect and put in park. This will make sure you not pushing fluid around the box. Labouring the engine down. 👍
The old girl has been stood for years and turning over slowly leave some oil in the pistons and leave it stood till you get everything done I would get a carb kit rebuild and clean that out but if it's holding you up then leave it get all that welding done as you have got loads to do I do welding and fabrication for 25 years and it would take me 6 to 12 months to do but i like to take my time do a good job and I've got the right voltage mig welder to do it so good luck with it don't worry about the engine yet mate
Yeah sounds like your starter motor brushes have corroded/stuck could dissasemble and clean but from experience if you change the starter for recon one you'd be surprised how much faster it will spin over 😊
Exhaust might be blocked up with mice nest.. sounds like your timming is slightly out. Put a screwdriver down cylinder one plug hole and stop piston at the top. See if timming mark is lined up. You putting 24 volts through a 12 v coil. Its getting hot quick. Disconnect exhaust at manifold. Think you got teeth missing on the ring gear. Maybe why it was parked. Is it a Auto. Might have a saftey switch on it. You can pull the plugs and heat them on the stove. Get them hot. What millage on the engine.
To much fuel can hydrolock . Sounds like thats happening. Use Brake cleaning fluid. No ether in that. No so volitile as starter fluid. Maybe transmission is draging engine down. Put Autobox in neutral.. check your plug wires are correct firing order.
@@AdamSNook. You have battery and charger connected. That's 24volt plus. If you are wired battery to coil direct you putting 24 in the coil. It's cooking quick.. did you put new condenser. Ask your wife for a Emory nail board. Sand the points even. Pull plugs and clean plugs put on stove. Turn engine over with no plugs. Clean out cylinders. You nearly there. Is your old fuel line disconnected.
yeah i did flick it from neutral and park its possable somthink is draging it down i will look into it again soon but want to do some more work on the body
Hi in one of my videos think there are 19 on this car in total there is a engine check over video where I stick oil down the plug holes and all over the rockers
@@AdamSNook. Lol hello if you put oil down maybe a ring is catching does sound like it's struggling fully charged battery and some more oil and try again
@@The_repair_shedthe battery was of my daily van lol sounded like it was going flat but when I put the battery back on my van it fired strate up also same with focus battery both new the other option could be a weak starter motor as it keeps sticking so might try cleaning that or replacing it I will try again tho soon
i would be to worried to tow it dow the road lol there is no brakes no steering wheel no steering coloum and its a automatic no clutch :) also would worrie it wouldent come back in one peace hehehehe
Just a tip Try not dumping so much fuel down the carb you only need a bit to get it to fire! also make sure to give it the beens when you crank it over!!!
Take the start off oil up the bendex , take off the prop shaft then try starting the old girl. Wasn't the V6 fuel injected? Tip for you but a socket on the crank and try starting it that way. Check ground also
mix some trans fluid and petrol.put some down the plug holes over night.Sound like there are tight spots in the cylinders.Rust.Also try to advance the timing
You put too much fuel down the carb Try using a secondary petrol tank and gravity feed it directly to the fuel in side on the carb Then clean all the electrical points, good earth and positive must be clean It could have a spark but maybe weak Clean all spark plugs put new ht leads on it
Do you need help?, how close are you to b'ham?, internal copper washer may need cleaning on solenoid, plus commutator probably needs cleaning, turning over slowly, what's the CCA of the battery?, V8 needs a good 600CCA to turn over effectively
Thanks for the offer but I'm all ready in the middle of sorting it its a v6 not a v8 plus the battery was a big battery out of my Ford transit 2.4 lwb hight top and is new I'm replacing the starter motor as one of the terminals is broken and getting new plugs and leads ect so will be doing another will it run soon just doing the work needed on my bull head first
@@AdamSNook. yea but in the distributor I meant renew everything as a process of elimination and the connections to the starter need to be mint and a good earth from the engine to the battery
Aww bro you look so deflated :( but you shouldn't shes got compresstuon she want to go but you have too much against you at present i,e carb, maybe timing not quite right not enough cold cranking amps and you will have no screwdrivers left at this rate lol it will go and it wants too.. whoever is ooerating the camera 📷 is doing a sterling job and bro i forgot how funny you can be lol made me nearly cry at burning your screwdrivers and fingers lol. Dont lose hope, persevere and check that carb. Much love to you :)
Can you get a bigger battery the one I try after was from my lwb ford transit high top van that I use everyday and is a relatively new battery fire my van up strate after trying it on my cortina it was acting dead but was still fully charged
why not i work on it daily i have done work pryer to trying to do a will it run i have my chassis new and my rear axle and half shafts im now going to order the floor pan and inner sills and outer i dont see why i would spend 100s and 100s to not finish it what makes you say that
@@metalman4141 hi your allowed your opinion :) yeah i know but as its my car and wont be for sale i will pay what ever it needs no matter what the price over time i have all ready got all the expensive stuff like rear 2.3 axle and half shafts i have my new chassis rails there is really not much left to get most hard parts i have managed to get
