Corvette C3 5.3 LS swap oil pan clearance issues fixed!

If you are planning to LS swap your C3 Corvette, this is probably the cheapest oil pan setup you will find. The 5.3 truck pan is WAY too deep, it hangs like 6 inches under the frame crossmember and hits the factory steering parts. Swapping to this F-body pan gives us TONS more ground clearance and it now easily clears the factory steering arms.
It will still bind up against the factory ram for the power steering. For now I will be running manual steering till I can get this thing running. If I figure out how to run the ram later I will update with the info. I hear this setup will work perfect with most Rack and Pinion conversions too!

No issues running the truck accessories? I have the same motor and every said the stock truck pulleys won’t work without adapters but clearly it fit yours

Truck intake won't clear the hood, pan obviously didn't fit. As far as accessories go, ac compresser has to be relocated if you are interested in keeping it. I picked up some brackets to mount it high on the passenger side. Water pump fits but it is TIGHT on the passenger control arm mount. I had to cut off the heater hose inlet/outlet fittings to get it mounted. They can be fairly easily tapped with new 90 degree fittings to get some hoses on. Other than that the crank pulley is really close to the frame and I may have to shim it up a bit at the mounts if it rubs at all.

I can't wait to drive it with the LS. A more powerful reliable engine than a tired 350 choked to death with emissions crap..... then strap a turbo to it and ruin its reliability LOL

I spat out my tea at the Dickstick blooper. I'm guessings it's still correct, as the dickstick still goes into a sump! Keep up the great content. These cars are rare in the UK, and even moderate ones are north of £10,000. The average (realistic) price for a tidy car is around £15000 (around $18000)

I did the CD009 trans also. you will need an aftermarket shifter to move the shifter forward, pretty simple. ended up making a center console from fiberglass. Hit me up on Facebook with questions. running 5/8 master cylinder and still has very firm pedal.

@@WTFPerformanceShow Ha. No worries. I have an 81. It is silver with red interior. I have about $35,000 in it. Dont drive it much. They are great looking but very poorly built and designed, no matter what you do to them. Best of luck.

My only real complaint on the design is those rear trailing arms, that was the WORST job! That said I haven't driven one since I was 18 haha

@@WTFPerformanceShow Yes I dont understand the poorness of these cars. They ride like a truck. They are very nice to look at. I kept the 170hp engine it came with and spruced it up a bit. it is now 370hp. Wanted to keep stock stuff in it. had to get new seats, as they are the most silly uncomfortable seats ever. I also have a 1993 40th anniversary Vette. It is nice but has its odd poor build qualities also. It now has 11,000 original miles on it. I hope your build goes well. I kept the vacuum headlights, as they are fun. The 80 to 82s are just great looking cars.

Oil level sensor hole is to low for an oil return from turbo. Have a bung welded onto pan as high and forward as possible.

Hey that is some great content. Thank you for that! So on the steering damper clearance issue.. could you just make two spacers, one for each side of the mounting location of the steering shock? Half an inch lower should no longer bind on left turns. Please think about this. Cheers!

Polyurethane SBC mounts with bolt on LS to SBC adapters. Generic eBay parts.
