Don't let the user name distract from this comment. I have a 98 C5 Corvette and this video was key to rebuilding both seats. I literally followed this video on my iPad and rebuilt my seats. Surprised this video has not received more comments. Recently ran into an issue replacing the C5 starter. I needed a long starter bolt (mine was original with the long and short bolts and the new version uses two long bolts) and nobody had it locally. Called Lyle at C&S and 10 minutes later I had the bolt on the way. He sold it to me at a low price even though I offered to pay more. Great videos and great Corvette support and advice.
Hey brother, you are the best man! I sit here laughing at your 7 guys at a corvette show and your DIY vids are second to none. You make everything seem so DIY .. More so then any other videos i have seen to do anything. I cant thank you enough for your knowledge and the awesome way you explain it to me. Thanks man !! Your the absolute best out there. Keep em coming!!
Absolutely perfect lesson. My C5 seats, 20 years old, have great upholstery... but I know the bladders and foam need to find a trash bin. I'll be in touch.
A few weeks ago I bought a C-5 50th anniversary. I am a detailer by trade and will be doing a full restore of the car. Thank you so much of producing this video, as I need to do my seats.
I just finished recovering my C5 seats with all leather seat covers. This video was invaluable!! I broke the locating tab off the driver's side seat control panel, but made a 'field repair' by taking the broken off piece, inserting a 1" screw in it and gluing it back onto the bezel. I put glue all along the length of the screw to strengthen the repair. When I finished the upholstery, the bezel popped on flawlessly!. Thanks for taking the time to help us Do-it-Yourselfers!
This video literally saved my sanity. 😮 😂😂😂😂 I just could NOT get the foam situated, as far as thinking it might be shaped poorly. Well, honestly, it’s not OEM perfect, but after following your steps verbatim it all worked out. Thanks for your help Lyle. 👍
Great video! I could not have done this job without it. A tip for those who are struggling with the seat backs (at the 35 minute mark) use a belt (pants not fan) with a military style buckle to squeeze the back piece together just above the tabs to get to the two push pins. Another vote for use new push pins!
Thanks Lyle I just did the 6 piece foam The leather was in great condition Now the seat is not only caved in but so darn comfortable I’m keeping my C5 stock minus Borla exhaust I always watch your DIY videos and pause it after each step
Thanks Lyle! Just successfully replaced the foam in my driver's seat bottom today. Had my iPad setting on top of the car (2001) with this video for reference throughout the process. You're the best!
Fantastic step-by-step tutorial! This makes me feel like I can tackle this for my 2000 C5 convertible... which the seats are desperately in need of replacement. Ripped leather... broken control bezel and basically just tired! Thanks for this video, I'll be in touch to buy what I need to make my baby look brand new again! Sounds like a good summer project here in sunny California!
Thank you so much, Jim! Refreshing your seats is a great weekend project, and will do more than anything else to make you fall in love with your car all over again. Let us know how we can help! Lyle
Lyle you magnificent bas@#$d! Your instruction on removing the clip holding the recliner handle saved me from destroying it and myself. I have the service manuals which are usually great but they were wrong about this. Thank you so much. George
Awesome video Lyle. Definitely saving it. So much negativity on RU-vid about the poor quality of these seats but good to see they can be refurbished to better than new. I’ve seen those Corbeau seats on other channels. They seem to be better if you’re tracking it but since I won’t be tracking my C5 this will be my go too if I need to ever refurbish them
Gee thanks Lyle! What a great tip especially for my 40th Anniversary Supercar! It's old and needs all the help it can get. By the way, finished the opti project and car runs so good. Had to use the spectra sensor instead of mitsubishi. It was toast. I don't know, its the sensor the rebuilder in ohio had on hand since mitsi is non existant. The ventilation kit is extra peace of mind. Very clean kit. Hope it lasts. Will keep you posted. Again, you provide a very nice commentary on these special cars. Thank You
A tip for finding the screw hole locations... put the screws in the holes, and on the front put a short screw in the hole. Your cutting out the hole anyway, now you have the exact location.
RS Dude I agree. I not long ago picked up a C5 that will need drivers side cushions and redoing covers. This video is no muss no fuss, this is how it's done. No steps skipped and explained well. As soon as the budget allows, I will be bringing these instructions back up to assist.
Better late than never to comment on this upload. Anyway, you make this upholstery jog look waay too easy.😉 This was another excellent tutorial Lyle! FWIW, you're becoming my Go-To guy for all things Corvette related. Save the Wave👋
This has to be one of the best instructional videos I’ve ever seen. And I have seen a lot. Great delivery style. Excellent detail. Very very helpful. I can’t wait to get started on my seats now! Thank you!
Best video-used it to guide me through the replacement on my c5 seats. I'll be using it again soon as I bought my leather covers from leathers11 on ebay and the driver side started having issues 6months and 900 mies after installation. Beware, leathers11 despite having good ratings does not follow up with their customer service after the sale. My seat clearly has a quality issue that I cannot even get a response from leathers11 on. Gonna take them off after I order a set from another source. They did look great after following this video for installation, thanks and I will just do it again hopefully with a better product.
Lyle no BS excellent tutorial on how to replace the seat covers. Your explanations and examples are exactly what is needed. Thank you you and god bless!! WOT Raider Rick
Trimmed the seat bottom foam as suggested, but that took off too much for a good fit abound sear adjustment bezel. Dry fit before trimming. Thanks great video.
THANKS for this video!!! I'm having trouble finding the exact seat cover you have shown in this vid (Light Oak w/Corvette lettering stitching) for my wife's 2001 C5 which I am restoring. I need to do this job! I've already purchased the rocking seat fix kit from you. Everything I can find online does not match the factory seat covers. I already have an OEM passenger seat cover...Also, do you still sell the foam kits for the sport seats? Any suggestions?
THANKS LYLE just completed the upgrade, your tips are invaluable!! Have a question since there is little out there on arm rest cover replacement. Some show removing old cover ,while some glue to new over the old, whats your opinion?
Ideally, the old cover and foam would be removed completely and replaced with fresh stuff by an upholsterer. Otherwise, you can buy new leather covered center console doors from Corvette America. Just make sure you do what you feel is right for the car! :) Lyle
This is really helpful! I'm going to replace foam and covers on my C5 sport seats, but I want to add a ventilated seat kit, which means I will need 'high flow' foam. Are you aware of somewhere to acquire high flow foam for seat pads and backs?
What size are the christmas trees for attaching the seat covers, What is the back of the seat seat release called the small plastic piece. it is rectangular inch and a half by 2 inches?
We do! With Covid shutting down manufacturing for several months during the spring/summer, I didn't want to take orders without being able to provide a due date. I will be putting the covers and foams back up this week as both of the manufacturers I deal with have largely caught up on their backlog and can now provide product in a reasonable time frame. Call me direct for details! Lyle 800-886-5064
NOTICE THE HOLE AT THE TOP OF THE SEAT IS SMALL IF YOU USE SELF TAPPING SCREWS TO SECURE THE BACK AND SIDES YOU CAN PULL THE BACK DOWN LEADING TO A LARGE PRETTY HOLE BETWEEN THE TOP AND BACK OF THE SEAT
Are you mounting onto new foam? That is an absolute must. I always order the covers pre-mounted to new foam to save a whole lot of time--installation takes about 15 minutes that way. I haven't built a set of 79-82 seats by hand in forever and don't recommend a novice attempting it. Where did you get the covers? The manufacturer may offer a mounting service that I would highly recommend you take advantage of. Lyle
DO NOT CUT THE FOAM IF YOU USE SELF TAPPING SCREWS TO ATTACH THE SIDES AND BACK OF THE SEAT THERE IS NO NEED TO CUT THE FOAM AND IT WILL GIVE YOU A BETTER AND TIGHTER SEAT
@@Debkghtulvkfjkjfxjjcj , I don't know anybody in AZ who does this type of Installation. You may want to contact AL Knoch Interiors in El Paso to see if they are attending any shows in your area, as they do seat cover installs at shows. Lyle
DO NOT USE THE ORIGINAL PLASTIC PUSH PINS, THERE A PAIN AND USALLY BREAK. USE SELF TAPING SCREWS IN THE BACK THEY HOLD BETTER AND ARE WAY BETTER TO HOLD THE BACK DOWN FOR A BETTER HOLE IN SPORT SEATS
@@cehe7390 I'm not the one calling someone names and insulting their work. Don't insult someone and then cry when they return the favor. You should have learned that in kindergarten. Lyle (notice I sign my name to my messages).
I had pulled them down because every manufacturer was closed due to COVID-19. I can absolutely take orders for seat covers and foams as of now. Feel free to call me directly for a quote at 800-886-5064. Lyle
