Cory Henry Performs Purple Rain W/ Metropole Orchestra Live at North Sea Jazz Festival 2017 

I worked with Prince on his live shows for 11 years and this is the first time I have seen someone else do the man justice. and this is the first and only time that I have or will go public with that.

This should have been the Super Bowl half-time show homage to Prince. NO WORDS.

Things that will make you more appreciate this massive work: 1.people realize what song at the 3rd chord then cheering at the 4th chord. 2. The crowd give their voice together at 0:53 3. Fantastic Camera work- You know when you take it anymore and you say:"FUCK!" well 2:03 Girl in the audience, music really gets to her....you can see her say "f#ck" She looks amazing btw!-Dick Boot 4. Muted trumpet fills at 2:15 -Ty TheDM 5. Cory catch the drummer eyes at 2:41 as :" that was a hell of a push, man!" 6. 3:27 Conductor Jules Buckley give a sign for the transpose chord which result to Cory's solo 7. 3:43 Cory did enjoy his solo very much he moan "yeahhh!" 8. 4:44 Conductor Jules Buckley take a step back and let's the whole band enjoy the music as much as they could! His hand signal was like "Carry on!" 9. 4:52 Buckley: "Strings more powerful please!" 10. Tuba low note at 6:42 11. 6:55 Dark chords, key switches by strings session after some twilight moment 12. Prince style ending. You think the song was finish but it wasn't. 13.Jacob applause!!! yay 14. The hole song was covered in purple light! I point out these things to for you guys to feel more connected to the song, to know the idea of the camera directer, the effort and the love the band had made to pull out this song. with LOVE!

I made my father discover Snarky Puppy in 2018. He dug a little bit and got very interested in Cory Henry and discovered this cover of Purple Rain that he kept listening to months before his sudden death. So this is a special one for me too.

I love Cory’s big puppy dog eyes. You can just tell that he is absorbing and processing so much information in real-time as he listens to what’s going on around him. Also really love the descending quintuplets at 6:22 right before the climactic hit of the song. They really take the energy to a different plane at the perfect moment.

The outro of this piece alone is proof of Cory's genius. He could have resolved it perfectly and absorbed powerful applause for another man's masterpiece. Instead he creates another masterpiece, tacked on to the original, that somehow reminds us of the sweetness of having known someone, and the stark eeriness of no longer knowing them.

Ok.... it's time to get crazy.... he Fucking played the guitar solo... on a analog synth... and it was amazing just like the guitar.... Ok, It's time to Freakin' out!!!! He is fucking amazing!!! Best keyboardist ever alive!!! God bless his soul!!!

I hope you all realize that you're witnessing a rare comet. Bach, Beethoven, Charlie Parker, Stevie Wonder... Corey is that rare wizard for today.

The part of Cory’s solo that starts at 3:53 and lasts for about fifteen seconds, brings tears to my eyes every time I watch this. It’s like I get the chance to go to heaven...yet only for a short while.

The fact that he did the ending...put me in tears...because thats the forgotten part...

I can't even begin to describe how incredible of a listening experience this is... Music like this is why you get amazing, expensive listening equipment. So you can hear every little shuffle, every little breath, every little mouse-fart that happens in the track, because you are so sonically in love with what it is... You're amazing Cory, keep running into that Horizon, man.

Bloody hell... I never thought I'd hear anyone do it justice, and more than justice. I came here because I saw a video of Cory at Nab playing the keys... Thinking wouldn't he have been amazing if he'd worked with Prince when he was with us. Instantly at that Nab play around you could see he had it. And then I listened to this. Blown away, I was in tears at that moment... You'll know the part in the song... It was as if Prince was in the room. For the first time since he left us... Just spell binding. Thanks Cory.
