Haircut - Time Allowed: 42 minutes
Procedure Criteria (1 point each):
MUST BE PERFORMED IN ORDER
1. Sanitize/clean hands
2. Prepare mannequin for service
3. Perform a scalp analysis
DOES NOT NEED TO BE PERFORMED IN ORDER
4. Use razor with a guard during the haircut
5. Follow a guideline throughout the haircut
6. Use shears during haircut
7. Haircut is blended
8. Cut a minimum of 1 inch throughout the entire head
9. Remove hair off workstation and sweep hair from floor

I PASSED!!!!! I graduated in 2013 and passed my written exam the same year. I was so nervous to take my Practical, so I never did. I came across your videos and studied them for literally 5 days, morning, noon and night and I passed with 90%!!!!! They are so informational. Thank you so much!

This is my situation too! Graduated 2015 and took my written but never took my practical! Taking it tomorrow and I’m ok if I need to take it again but these videos do help!

i commented on onw of your videos already, but tomorrow i will be traveling to austin to take my test, i am honestly scared but showing you helped me pass my written i definitely think this will help cuz haircuts are my hardest thing timewise! pray the test goes well! and thank you!

Question? Do we blow dry the hair after the cut? Are do we just disinfect, sweep up, and raise our hand once we are done?

Hi No you do not blow dry . You disinfect sweep and raise hand 🙂 leave a cutting comb out they usually do check the haircut

Do we have to hole the hair comp and the share on our hair when we picking up the hair to cut ? Or can we put it down on the table and pick them up when we pick up the hair ?

Honestly it depends on the rater and testing site, many instructors do prefer for students to try to avoid putting the comb down but not sure how strict they are with that for the practical.

It seems like the practical overall is mostly based on sanitation . What if my haircut is not great of my rollers are off base will I still have a chance at passing as long as I'm still doing ALL the proper steps ??

The goal is for you to keep sanitation in mind at all time, try to finish each section and try to follow all the required steps. 💗

Yes private room with a working table and a place where you can put your phone or laptop on a tripod so they can see you.

After our haircut has been checked by the raider, do we put our shears & comb into the trash bag immediately or wait until the beginning of the next service?

You can do any layered haircut of your choice as long as you also incorporate the razor at some point during the cut.

They do not specify on how to do it or how to section the hair so my advice would be, do the scalp analysis than move forward with the cut and section the hair based on the cut you will do .

its part of the allowed time. this is when you'll change the mannequin into neck strip and cutting cape.

Question after every section we do and we r done with the bags do you put them in the trash or back in the box / bag you came in with. Because it’s cross contamination

New videos for the full test will be out 10/2/23 For this section I put into the trash bag. You putting things back into kit once done with section for certain items I fine also .

I am in MS. Is there a requirement for guides? They have us sectioning into 7 sections with multiple guides. This looks sooo much easier. I get tripped up with all the guides in the way.

once done you will sweep the floor, disinfect your station, put everything away except for the shears and your cutting comb. Raise your hand ,,,,after they check it remove the cape off the mannequin and dispose of everything along with shears and comb and cape.

The mannequin does not need to be in a bag or box if it fits inside of your duffle bag(kit) that would be great.

Everything is pretty much the same except you no longer have to do the eyelash strip application, but yes definitely plan on re doing all cosmetology videos , everything I have on the playlist is still accurate

You can do either one as long as it’s a layered cut .

How many times do you recommend to remove the cape and towel ? After which services ?

Everyone does it differently, You can use the same cape for the lash , wax, facial section . -For the haircut you’ll use a cutting cape and neck strip. - for permanent wave you’ll use towel cape towel . - you can keep the same cape on for the rest of the sections except you should consider changing the top towel for each section. total 3-4 Hope this helps

Hi i take my test next Wednesday I have a question do I need to take my draping for my hair cut off at the end of the service ?or do I remove it at the begging of the next section for perms?

Remove it at the end of the service you’ll drape for the chemical once you start that section

Quick question … For the razor part is it necessary to go all around the perimeter or can we just use the razor for the bottom section of the hair and start from there ?

There will be no one there to check, but listen for instructions perhaps they will have you check your own cut. No one you know has taken via zoom that can give you more feedback?

Yes you can My advice would be to do the guide line around the perimeter of the head with a razor and than go into the 180 layers 😉

They give you 40 minutes total to do an entire layered haircut from start to finish but you must incorporate using a razor .

If that is your only option take it , or see if you can put a dark brown color over it , just be sure the hair is long enough at least 7 inch.

Yes you can start from the front. It does not matter where you start as long as the haircut is a layered cut and you incorporate the razor. 😊

Do I need to bring multiple capes? Or can I use the same non chemical cape for all non chemical services (facial thru thermal curling section) & then switch to my chemical cape for perm through the end of the exam?

Yes as long as they do not get soiled , and you’ll need the cutting cape as well.

Honestly I don’t see why not, but we make sure all of our students spray water on their mannequins before starting, don’t forget you must also use your razor during the cut . Do you find it easier to cut the hair dry?
