9:20 is true. I failed twice for the CA written exam thinking I could cram the info in last minute. Nah.. The exam is actually testing you not only to memorize everything Science related, but also that you comprehend what everything Science related means per chapter. TRUST ME. Learn from me, it is costing me a few hundred dollars to retake this exam, not to mention.. The time I have to wait one week to approve payment and two more weeks following to register a date and time to take the exam. Good luck everyone. (This info is to help other students that have already finished Cosmo school and are trying to pass the state exam). Hope it helps!
Thank you so much for this. I have to prep for the state board after 30 yrs of completing cosmetology school and am lost, trying to prepare 😩 This video refreshed my memory and I learned additional information. I’ll continue to watch your prep videos. Do you have any plans of making a Practical Exam Prep video (what to bring, how to label, what to do & not to do)? I think I’m stressing more over the practical
I am so glad you are finding them helpful. We are currently enrolling in a live 4 week refresher course to help students like you prepare for their written exam. Check it out. www.cosmetologyexamreview.com/live-refresher-courses
Amazing!!!! thank you so much for your video you are everything that i was looking for and more, I am so glad i found you here, getting ready to take my test finally.
I have to take my state board exam because I am moving to another state. It’s been years and years since I took the test. I have been watching your videos which are so helpful and I have the paperback of Milady Standard. I also work on Quizlet. Do you think I should purchase a hardcover cosmetology book? I’m not sure I have the materials to pass…..
The first part reminded me of my aunt's medical textbooks lol. I like how cosmetology covers a lot of things (cuz I like being able to do a lot), but I do think there should be specialty licensing, since not everyone wants to offer all services. I feel like if someone doesn't want to do perms or nails they shouldn't have to learn and be tested on those things. I have a friend that Only does color and trims. After learning all the necessary sanitation stuff, I don't think it's right to have to spend more time and money into areas you aren't interested in just to get licensed.
In a perfect world the states would come together and set a series of standards across the board. However, until then, each state determines what the licensing looks like. I will say, after 20 years of experience as a stylist, I am incredibly grateful that I learned the things I never cared about. It increased my income opportunity a crazy amount. With the rules as they are, we are just happy to be able to offer resources and assistance to students that need a little support. :)
@@TheIntentionalClassroom I definitely agree being well rounded is best. i just feel if Shampoo and braiding licenses are a thing, I don't see why not for a keratin or color only license lol. But you're right. It all comes down to the states and what is lobbied for.
They can, although it is different in every state. I've had students get their license using a student visa without any issue. Then I've had some that struggle, depending on state. It will be in your best interest to contact the state you want to be licensed in.
