Look, the game is cute and all, and the idea behind it is fun. But deep down this is nothing more than an adequate game. The runaway leader issue is very strong, which may or may not be a bad thing for you. At least the game is short enough that its not too bad to see someone race off into the distance. I wanted the game to be more fun than it is, and it has surprisingly little interaction for a game about competing cultists. Still, there is a solo and co-op mode, but we didn't try them because the game wasn't really holding our interest.

We got taught this by Nat from Lucky Duck Games at one of the Dungeons and Flagons events weekenders. It was just nice, easy fun. Easy to pick up and teach. It's a great game for any part of a session. It's an easy starter, a good quick mid session game while you await takeaway, or just fitting a quick game in at the end because setup and takedown is quick and easy. Definitely not a heavy game,but it is fun.

Hello, Great 3-minute-summary. Just 2 little corrections: At the start, Cosmoctopus is on the "+3 stars" tile, not necessarily in the center. And the card you showed does not give 3 tentacles, but 3 move-Cosmoctopus-actions.

Ah, the 2nd one is a misunderstanding, but the 1st one was deliberate shortening for time. These are not "how to play" videos, i never include all the rules. I also missed claiming the 4 bonus cards, and had one of those bonus cards as a draftable card if you are being ultra pedantic.

@@3MBG Sometimes I tend to be pedantic, well spotted 😉 I just thought that maybe your issues with a runaway-leader (which I rarely had in my games) might come from mistaking "move Cosmoctopus" with "gain tentacles". 3 tentacles from one card would be way too powerful.

it is possible. It's also possible i was tired when i made the video and an error crept in. I can't recall how that card played when we played it to be honest.

This game is super fun!! I had actually written it off when I first heard of it cos cultist themes are so overdone, and the idea of a space octopus seemed too ridiculous. However, I got to play a handful of rounds of this at a gaming convention last month and the game play intrigued me enough to pick up a copy when I was able to get it on sale I've played it several times, and in addition to enjoying the game play, I like that it's a relatively quick engine builder - since so many engine builders seem to be long games. Also, I wound up really liking how much they leaned into the ridiculous theme.

This looks like an excellent game café warmup sorta thing. Simple mechanics, fun theme, and then you put it back on the shelf and forget about it until three visits later.
