I was SHOCKED at this grand total! Is travelling Norway affordable?! Did we really spend that much on fuel?!
Also I included INTERNET costs in the grand total but didn't speak about it - we spent £95 (we have been buying data passports with three every few days that give us unlimited internet to upload videos). Expensive I know, normally we would buy a local SIM but in Norway the price per mb was more expensive than just using our UK sims. We used up the 20gb allowance we were given with our UK sims so we're paying 0.15p/mb for additional data.

Who are we? 💁🏼‍♀️
We're Tom and Iz, who live and travel in our van La Bamba. We love nature and are currently traveling in Norway!!
You might find Tom in the forest IDing a mushroom, fixing something or starting an ambitious project with his laid-back relaxed approach whereas you could find Isabel cooking up a storm, sunning herself on a beach and being a busy, energetic bee with her endless enthusiasm and positivity! We are total opposites but it works!
How did we end up here?! 😁 ⏮
We met 10 years ago when we were both finishing our A-levels and had a whirlwind summer romance, hitch-hiking around France together before before going our separate ways to travel and to university. We've both always prioritised travel and adventure and have worked hard over the years in hospitality jobs to enable us to keep exploring.
Tom hitch-hiked across Europe and road tripped around Australia whilst Iz studied Environmental Science at York. Iz backpacked around South America with her sister whilst Tom studied Forestry at Aberdeen University. Little did we know we just weren't going to get each other out of our minds! Fast forward 4 years later, we found ourselves in campsite warden jobs, living in a bell tent in a wild flower meadow together! Maybe without realising this was the start of our van life journey!
Next, we both trained to be science teachers and during training, we bought a van, ripped out it's interior and converted it to live in it. Iz managed to get a remote work-from-home job that she could do from the van and Tom was passionate about starting up a RU-vid channel.
Since then we haven't looked back and when the pandemic allowed us to, we travelled to Spain, Portugal, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and around Cornwall. We are now on a big European road trip! We are giving it our best shot to do RU-vid full time. We have a dream of one day owning a little plot of land and building ourselves a cabin in the woods. If you're new around here you can check out our previous videos; we've been uploading weekly videos for the last 9 months and are currently releasing DAILY VIDEOS.
Our message on our channel is to inspire others to do what they love as life is too short! We love living simply, freely with less stuff but more time!
We have a Paypal and "Buy Me a Coffee" page linked below for those who would kindly like to support us further to do so ☕️ 💸

In the grand scale of things, I have to say folks, that's not bad at all, considering a good bulk of that was the repair to van. Obviously at the minute we are being shafted everywhere with price of fuel too. So well done you are doing rightly 👍👍

And I'm all caught up! A little sad I managed to catch up just as you are leaving our country, but that's how it goes. It's a brilliant vlog series and you still seem in (mostly) high spirits despite the hurdles you've crossed. It's a joy to see and I hope your future travel days will be just as delightful. Considering your budget I dunno the likelihood you'll decide to explore southern Norway, but I'll be on the lookout. Would be great to catch you near Oslo where I live :D I truly hope you'll be able to land some more sponsors to help you out with travel expenses. You may be new to the game, but your quality is great already ^^

Norway can be expensive. Yes. But you can save so much if you want. Water is free. Kiwi, Joker, Meny, and Spar sell First Price products. They are cheaper! Cheap coke for around 10kr etc. Coop Extra, Coop Mega, Coop Prix etc got Xtra products. They are also cheaper. Rema 1000 also got cheaper products. Also. I saw you visit Bergen. When visiting the "bigger" towns in Norway. Make sure to visit Pakistani/Foreign stores. They sell fruits and vegetables at half of the price in the Norwegian grocery stores. A lot to save there! Also. You might have noticed it in the Norwegian grocery stores. There's always a 30% to 50% part where they sell food that is almost out on a date. You can save a lot by checking that. I am buying it as a Norwegian too. So, buying groceries doesn't need to be that expensive. You just need to know where to look. Also. Do not throw out your soda bottles. You can get lots of NOK back by giving them back to the stores. Love your videos. Safe journey :)

It is not only Circle K that have that deal here in Norway. Shell and YX have this also and they all cost about the same and you can have free coffee or other warm to drink for the rest of that year you buy the cup. I believe they also have that deal on this stations in Sweden and maybe Finland also.

Oh my goodness, and the cost includes only one campsite!! Shame about the wheel bearing, that didn’t help either. Fuel cost these days is everywhere, we were asked to pay up front in France, that tells you how many people have driven off without paying. The sights you have seen do compensate but I know what you are saying. Well done Iz for showing the stats. Cheers Mike🍷🍷

Iz, you crack me up!! Seriously though the price of fuel globally is making camper van and RV holidays prohibitively expensive. Where I live in the Brecon Beacons there are noticeably less vans & RVs on the roads compared to last year. The cost of 1 litre of unleaded petrol here in Wales is anywhere between £1.84 to £1.92 a litre, and rising.

Izzy & Tom I actually don't think that's too bad. Yes it's a lot of money but when you realise what you have/are achieving and the memories that you have from these experiences I think it's a small price to pay? Fuel is way over priced currently and we are all suffering, the wheel bearing issue was just bad luck & could happen at anytime to anyone. We spent just over two weeks touring Scotland in our motorhome staying in campsites and had only two meals out ( Stonehaven & Garlieston) and that cost us £1097.64 for everything.

That's not that bad. The only thing that shocked me was the fuel, but your van is quite a large vehicle, and especially in Norway the gas isn't cheap. As far as groceries goes, I'm super impressed. I can, and probably do, easily spend that alone per week. I have definitely gotten some motivation to keep track and try to get closer to your number. Wow, it’s so difficult to keep costs low even with being as frugal as you are with food and drink. Thank goodness for free parking/wild camping. Hi Tom, hi Iz, well, next time you go to Norway again you will be better prepared for sure. Regarding cost reductions: Most of your groceries you will buy in Germany(except those you are not allowed to bring in such as eggs, raw potatoes; informe yourself about the customs allowances). Driving to Denmark and taking the ferry from Helsingör to Helsingborg Sweden which is much cheaper using a ferry direct to Norway(except from Hirtshals in Denmark to a norway port or actually the ferry from Frederickshavn with DFDS to Oslo). Actually you can buy a cup and coffee at a circular K petrol station and get a free refill on all other stations of Circular K. Regarding toll roads which you cant avoid and also inland ferries you get huge discounts on most when you have an account on AutoPass coin, chip and later you connect with so called ferjekord. For details informe yourself(first autopass, wait a week for ferjekord order and than connect both via internet in case it didtn happen automatically) Actually the prices for fuel are skyrocket in Norway as well, whereas the exchange rate to Euro is still quite good(1€=10,2NOk and 8 years ago 1€=bit more than 7NOK only) Dont change for cash at home cos, mostly pay by visa card even small amounts and get some cash in Norway via ATM. Have a nice drive to Estonia. REMA1000 or 2000, Bunpris and Kiwi are less expensive than CO-OP. Before you leave try to taste Smash, Freia chocolate and get the Sitronpepper from the brand HINDU (only to find at Kiwi stores or even Best petrol stations) All of them are worth to try

If you go to a grocery shop i can recommand Kiwi and they have food who are almost 50% cheaper if you choose First Price food in the shop eks egg a 12 pack cost almost 50% less than Prior eggs same for meat it is much cheaper i only buy this my self, and it is tons of more food they sell so shoose First Price. And for the diesel prices dont run the car to you "Must" fill up the tank the prices change every day almost some days it is 27 kroner pr litre next day it can be 20 kr pr litre it is never the same each day. And NEVER fill up in a Cirkle K station they are allvais the most expensive!! The best is to use those small petrol stations with no service also it have only two pumps 1 for diesel and 1 for gasoline! And thanks to the free camping in Norway you can avoid camping places and park free where ever you want almost, but for the loundry and a shower it is ok now and then to use a camping place though!

The only way to tour Norway is to live there and earn those huge salaries for doing more or less nothing. Or, be rich! PAl of mine got a menial job in Oslo...10 years later hes building his 3rd house in Croatia! And, hes bought his daughter a flat !

All the money we make at the moment is through RU-vid. We don’t pay rent or bills, this is between two people and to be honest this is quite a bit higher than we would usually spend

@@deekayunited3445 fuel prices fluctuate with as much as 50p a day here now. Googling prices I see that some lists do not include the sales tax of 25%, and some do. But the main factor in the price is the international market, so any holiday anywhere with a lot of driving will be expensive this year.

At least 2/3 of your ENTIRE TOTAL would have been spent on rent anyway, if you were living in a house/apartment. So it could be an awful lot worse - even though fuel is a killer now. I guess you could buy a fancy coffee machine for the van?

Yes fuel prices have skyrocketed, but the fuel companies have vastly increased their profits, apparently. Which makes me wonder who's fooling who. Likewise with the electricity companies, all making huge profits. Keep smiling you two ! They can't tax smiles and laughter, or ... maybe they can !
