NO. Ethiopia is NOT cheap if i compare it with Asia and South America where what’s on offer is also of higher quality. Transport, housing, enmities, modernity overall. Like bookshops, cinemas, theater, sport accommodation etc. like imported goods. And since there is almost no manufacturing industry in Ethiopia or anywhere in Africa everything is imported through expensive Djibouti. Major problem.
I am not really impressed with the expensiveness of Ethiopia. I have been trying to learn more from abroad before moving but all I'm hearing is that its expensive but cheap for foreigners/expats/people making hijrah. I wouldn't feel comfortable moving to Ethiopia as a foreigner knowing I would be in the top 1% of the country and yet the the locals are suffering. This is not a good feeling. Are there any other resources I can looked into regarding staying in Ethiopia?
the cost of living seems very reasonable in dollars but i can't imagine living there while getting payed in birr. its way too expensive compared to what most the local people's salaries are.
You are doing a great service to Ethiopia really. I’ve not been back there for more than eight years, but through your videos I could see how much the country has changed. Thank you for what you do 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Now you have a chance Betel. Keep it your priority task. Put as much money as you can and never hand out cash to anybody in Ethiopia. I have horrible experience from people I helped. They expect huge like buy them ground plus one or open a hotel for them. Just for yourself and you will come back without getting hurt.
I am Ethiopian living in the US. I have to say your blog/ video is the most efficient and much needed information I have seen so far, even my relatives don’t give me such clear info 😅 keep it up. You rock girl!
You are inspiration to many Africans as you are travelling around Africa and showing untapped resources, culture & ..... of our mother land. Africa is rising up 🙏
I am renting a 3 storey house with 5 bedrooms, 4 baths, and 2 Livingrooms with 2 kitchens, and that only costs 300 US dollars a month. So, compare to the West, it is dirt cheap. And by the way, the development in Addis Ababa is rapidly growing as you can see.
Yes love Ethiopia my wife and I are building a home In Barhir Dar I’m from America and she is from Ethiopia but at the moment we live in America wish more of my Afro American brothers and sister visit more would love to see more of us there great video
I'm a AA living in America and for starters I'm absolutely blown away by this footage and intrigued. It looks like a nice city to live and the cost of living to me is definitely reasonable for sure. Thanks for the content 🙂👌🏾
I loved your video! ❤ I've been in Addis Ababa for only one day back in 2017. I've never planned to go to Ethiopia, but I ended up falling in love with it. I really hope that I can have the experience of spending more time there someday. 🙏🏼
Strange...I was in Addis about 3 years ago (2017) and it was 1UsD to 30 Birr...now (2021 it's 40 Birr)....Anyway, it's the strongest currency in East and Horn of Africa
Its so expensive things hike with 40% in a month Its crazy infact considering their low salaries Its good to have business in the city as its highly populated 3 yrs living here
80$ to 200$ a month for 1 bed room is reasonable price. Where I live in US average 1 bedroom apartment is $700 to $1000 depend on how luxury you want it including location (close to the city), gym, swimming pool. Monthly income varies based on what you do as well.
Hi I m from Malaysia. 200usd a month for a studio with toilet and balcony its pretty expensive compare with Malaysia. Because i rent, a 3 bedroom with 2 bathroom, a parking lot and garden just around usd220 a month. However I m not living in the center of Capital city of Malaysia which is Kuala Lumpur. My house around 30 minit from KL. But for food and transportation, u guys are insanely cheap. Esp for the coffee.. Wow.. And maybe your electricity, cheaper than Malaysia. But for water, i m not sure. But for me Malaysia quite cheap. In average we pay around usd2-10 per month for water. Sometime it free, since government give subsidies. My conclusion after seeing your video, i can say in total u guys more cheaper than Malaysia(Kuala Lumpur). Thanks for the great video. Keep it up, stay safe and take care. Love from Malaysia.
you need to establish distance income or something else) although the most reasonable thing is to learn how to trade cryptocurrency. Greetings from Russia to all kind people
You have evolved, and now produce excellent content that brings value to your viewers. Top notch 👌 Brilliant content directing. You have really grown as a person. Brilliant Content! Hands Down 🙌🙌
Great video! When all is well in Ethiopia we will consider moving in the future but not in the current situation. Praying for poor, elders, children and women who are innocent and victims of this civil war among racially divided brothers and sisters .
I used to pay 750 Australian dollar; which is way expensive. But, in Ethiopia, people have fewer income generation option to afford the least living standard.
Wow your lecy bill is massive. Mine in England is about £900 per year and thats for both lecy and gas. I live in a 4 bedroom house though now on my own, no central heating.
@@theofficialsoldierthatreviews Not even in your own state! I lived in Tampa for 30+ years. Expenses you stated are about correct. I moved to a small town and of course, a smaller home (98 meters) just shy of 1000 sq. ft. Rent dropped by over 1/2, food is a bit cheaper and my electric went from $350 to $150 mo.
You should have shown an apartment with a kitchen. I would love to visit, and the cost of living is dirt cheap compared to the cheapest places to live in the USA.
It's a beautiful city. I wish the best for that teacher. Education of the youth is preparation for the future of the country. Teachers should be paid at the highest level as they prepare students for all eventual careers.
I guess that depends on where you are in America. Considering all that we have access to and quality of living. This place would be far too expensive to move to. I would rather be poor, or Elderly in America any day.
@@karlshaner2453 I think if u were poor it is better to live in ethiopia at least u will get free hospital and university/school service in addition to the reasonably priced healthy and rich food as compared to the unreal price for health care and education in america .and most Americans are not that smart from the randem questions we ask them in omegla(I mean it is not a serious experiment but random people are not that bright . America is great for middle income and rich people whose only concern is luxury.on the other hand Canada is best for every one
@@chapterone869 It depends on your perspective and knowledge. We agree on the inequities in the world. But beyond that, you are mistaken to paint such a broad brush over the entire US of A. And trust me when I say, not every state is the same.
Wow. Thanks for this. We’re currently in Dar es Salaam, but I’m very curious about Addis Ababa. We’ve been here since 2020 from the USA. All in all, East Africa is amazing!
Been to Ethiopia 15 times love the country, thanks for sharing and can you do a Vlog on hospitals for those thinking of coming to Ethiopia long term. None of us are super human extra terrestrials that view was epic.
I think if i remember 100$ was 700 birr in 2001 i wonder high inflation on the other hand addis ababa changed in terms of economic growth you can see new building streets hotels etc live was simple and invironment keeping you happy i have nostalgia to visit again !
Yeah in our country down in Aotearoa, New Zealand it about the same but a bit more in Auckland. $320NZ will get me $200 USD. Many Blessings and Thanks for the video
Ethiopia is cheaper according to Somalia since our official currency is $ Wow , in Mogadishu if you are alone ,you're gonna need around $700 for normal life. For a nice live standard , its about $1,200.
He said 700 😂 . Are u a foreigner ?? Who the hell can afford $700. 300-400$is more then enough for a family if U own a home(most people do). Rent is getting more expensive due to high demand. ⚡️ is also super super expensive.
Hello, thank you so much for providing such clear and good information. It deeply helps for people such as me who didn't get to come in Ethiopia yet. Coming from a large city in France. The price of accommodation here (Montpellier) is around 500-700€ for 1 to 2 bedrooms. Notice that according to your salary you're likely to get money from the government to help you pay your appartement. I.e. I 'm a student and I live in an appartement that costs me 1000€, and the government give me 400€. It's sounds weird but we pay a lot of taxes here.
I have been trying to develop a plan to live in Ethiopia and keep my U.S. citizenship. The housing prices you mentioned are much cheaper than what is listed on the web. I am not Habesha and will probably have to pay more for rent than you. The price of internet service depends on your access speed. It can be cheap as $10 for a very slow connection. If you want anything resembling the internet speeds in the U.S. it will cost a lot more. The major hanging point is the financial institutions. The U.S. makes it very difficult to have a financial account outside of the country. At best, I can live in Ethiopia for a few months out of the year. I am fortunate enough to be able to work from anywhere that has a good internet system. Getting mail forwarded from the U.S. is another major problem. Electrical power failures were always a problem in Addis. I am waiting for Covid to go away before traveling again. There is a lot going on in Addis these days. There are so many people being moved from the country to the city. On my last trip to Addis, I was dodging pickpockets every day and carrying my cellphone with a death grip in my hand. How is the crime rate?
Crime rate in addis is low compared to other cities in Eth. And also you can have a fast speed wifi connection in your home which you need to pay 30$-35$ per month.
Oooo serene environment here!! Well, looks like 9 hours is the earliest I have been in a month. I should be ashamed of myself but my shame tree tore down 🥰🥰 I love everything - even the cirrus clouds in the sky. Soo so pleasant! Aaaaaand the picturesque landscape!
Well we rented one of the studio aprtement shown in the vid its expensive life in addis it dont go w average income of the economy plus the envolvment of brokers makes it even harder to find a descent n cheap house to rent as they take 10% of the monthly rent n insist to get paid of 3 monthes also the house leaking water which was painted newly from the walls with in weeks thanks God i did not get Nimonia i was sneezing without rest so i changed house immediately after that. So...... Addis Ababa houses are like painted tents.
@@QueenDesta lately I have been watching so many videos of East Africa that you may soon see me there, Ethiopia or Tanzania. I am not kidding. Love to Ethiopia from America.
Average employed person in Ethiopia earns 3000_10000 birr. low standard and narrow room rents upto 3000 birr. Food prices in birr starts from 30 birr up to hundreds. How it could be inexpensive. You're right if we consider for foreigners because they have hard currency when the came and the value of birr to purchase became worsening.
It appears to be very reasonable place to live question helpful and nice is that an issue towards let say African American people cost of living i like thank you 😊👍
@@QueenDesta young pretty lady u do very well explaining and being on point I haven't made up my mind yet to plan a Life Time move like that and don't know a soul Amen keep doing what you do u are good with at it love you 😘
Housing and food cost are reasonable. Utility bill including internet not mentioned. A glimpse of night life might help, coz most guys are curious in that (lol)... Locating low cost hotels and hostels might help the average traveller. Helpful to offer prices in dollar terms. Good. If I were to stay long, like over a month I would take one full day to familiarise self with rail system. Taxis occasionally, but mostly train.
Have you tried to get into a local hotel (3 stars for example)? Do they charge foreigners differently? I've heard stories where foreigners (including former ethiopians who attained foreign citizenship) would be asked to pay in USD and a higher price, which is ridiculous in my viewpoint.
Always in Birr and some charge ferangi prices for White foreigners in which case just move on. Prices are listed. In restaurants English written menues are occasionally a cheat. Always compare with the Amharic one.
Ethiopia has everything but her negibors do not want her to grow because they think Ethiopia become the strongest. 💚💛❤️ I still feel that Africa's bless start from Ethiopia. Until Ethiopia starts growing, I don't think others Africans grow.
I live in Addis employed by the government and I get 7200 Ethiopian birr per month but I still couldn't leave out from my parents house cause I can't afford to live alone 🤧🤷🏾♀️
