Families with children need to include school fees and auxiliaries school items (books, lunch, trips, school bus fee etc) expected for children which also varies depending on the type / calibre of school they attend. Also it’s worth registering with a hospital for medical care (some private hospitals have pseudo insurance schemes); however, a good idea it to purchase an annual platinum family multi-trip travel insurance in the West to be on the safe side😉.

School has been decentralized and has changed a great deal. You can do top notch western education on pennies on the dollar on the internet by homeschooling. That's what's we're doing and we're even still in the US. We don't need public school, it's useless!

Very good analysis. For the people questioning why they are still living in the West , well you need to generate the income. Jobs paying this kind of money in Nigeria are difficult to get .The average Nigerian makes about $100 /month. It is cheap if you make money in the West but can you transfer your job/income? Obviously if you are retired and have pension income that would be ideal. If you can work online , if you have some kind of passive income. To a teacher in America this looks cheap ,but you could not afford this lifestyle working as a teacher in Nigeria !
@thenigeriannomad
@thenigeriannomad 3 года назад
The points you make are very valid. The people i see doing well here that come from the WEST are the people who own businesses, have their source of income overseas or have a very well paying job in Nigeria but you are right. those Jobs are not readily available that pays that high, they do exist though and they require special skillset.

@@thenigeriannomad brother I have a question that maybe you can answer. As I sell my belongings here in USA and only keep the necessary items, can I bring my Harley Davidson motorcycle with me , if I pay the shipping? I've read they motorcycles are banned in Lagos, is that true? Would I better off selling the Harley here and take the huge loss that would happen, as there are Harley for sale here everywhere? Would there be safe places to ride in the country? Or would a shiny expensive Harley just make me a target of opportunity? Thanks for your help in this matter!

You forgot BRT. Some Main landers park their cars and take BRT to work on the Island- average ticket is N300 which is less than a dollar. For those coming from abroad, I'll advise them to live in a service estate on the Island where all services like 24/7 light, clean water, security, cleaning of the estate etc are provided though at extra cost; but it's very convenient and nice. Also some landlords are accepting 6 months rent down payment bcos of COVID 19

I wanted to figure out who could afford this life style working in Nigeria .I used just the mainland as living on the Island is like living in Manhattan! Not where the middle class usually live . Using the Median salary a teacher in Nigeria makes about of 250,000 naira/ month or $656. A doctor in Nigeria makes about 650,000 naira /month or $1706. Also let us assume that these are two income families, so the amount might be larger if the wife is working . You did not include school fees , or medical . I just got these figures off the internet so I dont know how accurate they are . I did work in Nigeria but that was long ago and the exchange rate is so much higher today. The GDP/capita is $2229/ year, which is $185,or 70,770 naira /month.

Yeah the people who are doing okay and work in Nigeria have multiple sources of income to sustain themselves in Nigeria is my observation to be honest.

@@thenigeriannomadActually based on your estimate of $400-$800/ month, both of these professions could live on the mainland, if these salary numbers are correct . Even more so if they are a couple and there is a second income coming in, and Nigerians always have side hustles! It is encouraging to see that the Nigerian middle class can afford to live a relatively good life in Nigeria!
@thenigeriannomad
@thenigeriannomad 3 года назад
@@josephbrown1573 aaaah gotcha. yes they can. if we can continue to increase the middle class size. it would be great for the country.

Wrong comparison here....Doctor earning 650k/month doesn't mean the average cost of rent is 650k/month. The cost of living in the US is more than twice of Lagos!

4 million a year in Banana Island? I don't think so, bro. double that and add a service charge of at least 2 million for a 3 bedroom apartment.

Bayo !! This cost of living is ok. But I have to know this. Is the generator still being use with the noise pollution every day. If so how can people stand that noise? Or are this places using solar powered light?
@thenigeriannomad
@thenigeriannomad 2 года назад
SURE. What i have seen is that the generator and solar is being used as the back up source for when the main light goes out. just depends on your wants and needs

Why is there a power supply issue in nigeria? My friend from Lagos told me they sometimes dont have electricity for days or even weeks.
@thenigeriannomad
@thenigeriannomad 3 года назад
I am not sure exactly. a lot of people rely on inverters and generators and some solar to use as back ups when power goes out.

It cannot be that expensive unless the maids and gatemen could not afford to live there. Average Nigerian earns between 190-355 usd per month.

what is the average wage or salary of a Lagosian. The numbers sounds really go for people out of the country but it super expensive for Nigerians.
@thenigeriannomad
@thenigeriannomad 3 года назад
The wage is very low in Nigeria. The range is wide but I know some people make $300 - $600 a month. off course some people earn a lot more depending on their role at their job.

The only thing stopping me is paying for a years' rent all at once! Although the cost is easily affordable on my income, it would take a while for me to save up money to pay for rent upfront. How do people do this? [Your videos are most appreciated!]
@thenigeriannomad
@thenigeriannomad Год назад
Yeah that is the biggest hurdle but people find a way. They save too off course and hustle. Nigerians are used to saving. Also, you can probably afford to pay in full for a place but maybe not a place in VI, lekki phase 1 or Ikoyi. these places are a pretty penny
