RVA was one of the best places to live on the East Coast 20 years ago. Unfortunately, there have been so many folks from the NE who have moved here, that RVA is no different than Baltimore or Philly these days. The cost of living in the RVA area has skyrocketed over the last 20 yrs. A once rural county, east of RVA is now the fastest growing in VA and the 10th fastest growing in the U.S. I'm talking about New Kent. So many people from up north are moving to New Kent and the surrounding areas. The area has lost its southern charm because of the hostile northerners who move here. RVA used to have a very distinctive southern accent. You could tell someone from the RVA area immediately by their accent. Now, in 2024, RVA has lost that accent because it has been inundated by nasily folks from NY, CT, NJ, PA and MA. Richmond and its surrounding suburbs have morphed into the northern locations that the northerners fled from. These transplants have brought their awful politics, awful dialects, and awful lifestyles to the RVA area. RVA is now the southernmost city in the northeast. Richmond has lost it's southern soul thanks to the northern incursion.
