13:36 The hose that is leaking has a hose clamp so it came loose! next to it there is a hose with a smaller diameter pipe sticking out. I would bet these two need to be together. Probably engine coolant (water?) as it looks to be an oil cooler. Copper hydraulic lines are mounted on it on the inside there is a spiral the case that coolant running through it. Please like so Bob sees this comment.

The material in the seat pads is often called "Horse Hair" because of the way it looks, but in reality its actually coconut husk fibers all pressed and glued together. Works extremely well, but it turns to dust after so many years!

There are so many things to comment on - and I am sure some may have already been addressed by other users. First of all, the cold start: To start the vehicle from cold, please depress the accelerator pedal once FULLY to activate the cold start meachanism. Release the pedal, then turn the key. Do not pump. Second, the overflow is petrol - so (as it has been observed by others) the float chambers of the carburetor need checking. Something is blocked there. Third: The window lifts. You cannot tackle the problem of slow window lifts by replacing the motors, they usually run well (the lifts go down), it's the cables (low voltage) and the chain. Check the videos of Ronny's garage. Fourth: Never use anything in the brake system than RR 363, even though the early cars (as yours) had DOT 3. RR 363 is basically a special DOT 3 with castor oil. You are on the safer side with RR 363 - it lubricates the brake pumps (could that the reason for your noisy pumps?). Fifth: The upper/lower buttons. You pull for quantity (completely pushed in: no air; first pull: little air and so on). For the aricon, always acitvate the big chrome ventilation switch to the right of the centre latch (with the little handle, beneath your switchbox) and open the latch, otherwise there will be no cold air. To defrost, close the "lower" button (push it in), turn the "upper" to full heat and pull it out completely (three clicks). Then shift the ventilation switch/bar to maximum. I want you to have maximum pleasure and minimum expense with this lovely car.

Hi Bob Do some research before you clean that head liner. I think you'll find it is mohair and will require careful attention and cleaning with specific items. From memory it can be gently wiped with a lint free cloth with little soap and luke warm water. Wipe don't scrub or push. It should then be brushed with a soft natural bristle brush. Again don't scrub or push, if you tear it, it's basicly impossible to repair. Also unless the hydraulic system has been modified it should use a mineral fluid, not a dot 3 brake fluid. Windows, most likely not motors but voltage drop install relays in the doors and heavy 30A batt feed cable in to each door, to each relay set, use window switch just to trigger the relay. British wiring is a weakness "Lucas" was the prince of darkness lol. Lastly check the rubber diaphragm in each off the SU model carburetor, easy to replace, the dash pots on the carbs should have ATF in them for the ballast on the plunger, NOT oil. Cold start, key on 15 seconds two pumps direct to floor , then crank with no further throttle. If all tuned correctly should fire right up. Chokes can stick and not fully engage when throttle depressed, easy to fix for someone of your skill level. I used to manage a fleet of classics and vintage cars that included Rolls Royces from the 60s to the mid 2000 phantoms, as well as the worlds 2nd largest collection of 600 series Pullman Mecedes limos in private hands. Mechanic of 45 plus years Love the car Rusty Ps feel free to message me if you have questions.

Hey Bob! Congratulations on your new acquisition! Sorry for late reply. Only just checked out your ep. Your leak is a fuel overflow. It’s nothing serious. The brass needle in your carbs will be stuck on one of your floats. Just open them up and you’ll see which one. Take the needle out, clean it up till it shines with some fine wet or dry and put it back together. They’re just designed to dump the fuel if this happens to prevent fire. Hope you’re having a great holiday and wishing you all the best for a happy and healthy 2024 from here in the UK..

Awesome beautiful car, for $5000 what is there to think about, and it runs good … people are missing the whole point of owning cars like this , it’s about a passion , love , excitement … it’s a hobby , you buy and enjoy spending time with it , people compare this to daily driver Toyota or Honda you use to go to work or grocery store , these kind of cars you take out on weekends , and you enjoy yourself … I have 2015 Mercedes S550 , and I don’t mind maintaining it , because it brings me a tons of joy driving it , every time I sit in it is an experience … I’m glad you’re enjoying your new toy , have fun , life is too short to drive boring cars 😊 … and yes, you’re correct, you don’t need to be rich to own car like that , but you can’t be broke sob either … I have credit card with $5000 on it , dedicated just to my Benz , if it needs something done , it gets done right away , you may be driving $5000 car , but you’re maintaining $150.000 one

I kept a jar of Grey Poupon in the glovebox of my 1976 Pinto Wagon. There was a minute, when everyone was asking everyone if they had Grey Poupon. Yes, I was asked if i had any, and i pulled it out to show them, which usually dropped their jaws. It was the car that was the funniest part. Flat Black, no drivers door panel, leaked gas, holes in the floor... but i had condiments with the best of them.

My friend bought a 71 Silver Shadow in the late 80`s, Cost about 22,000.00 dollars. Months later needed 21,000 dollars for repairs. Jay Leno used to work on these. My cousin once had a vintage car dealer, he was able to fix those. I would think the best mechanics are in NYC.

Well done keeping this beauty with history on the roads! The Chippendale dash is exquisite, that was only offered in the 60's. I love American and British cars (I am Australian) and have both. My Silver Shadow is a 1976 (1A) with the chrome bumpers, I have wanted one since I was a kid. Every man deserves his dreams to come true. And it's not about cost or effort of ownership, it's about pride of ownership and giving these cars good homes to keep the legacy alive and well for all to enjoy. Further, we are not their owners, we are their "custodians" who take on the responsibility for the love of them. I really need to get some Grey Poupon from the States for my glove compartment - that ad is famous even here where we never even sold it.

From Sheffield , Yorkshire , England. 1975 : Dads freind and waste paper merchant George Schofield, bought a nearly new second hand example for £15k, which was a lot of cash in 75. Colour 2 tone brown / golf, with tan interior. Took me and my dad for ride and the " marshmallow ride, as you describe blew my mind, along with the so silky , smooth and silent ride ! George made a fotune, picking up tons of free paper from the Sheffield steel works, and turning it into paper bags, for various bakery chains. George, was an hands on guy and he used to muck in , with the other lads, on the waste paper. Looked so funny, to see him totally shi*ted up , wearing dirty old work clothes and getting into a brand new Rolls Royce! He always used to say : " where there's muck : there's brass ". 😊

Dear Bob: Another enjoyable episode on the 1967 Shadow. Keep at it. Zenith Motor Company in Independence, Missouri, restores and performs maintenance on these, and you are right; people ship the cars in from all over. My son works there and has educated me a lot about the cars. Once a person has a Shadow sorted and running, it's insanely important to use it frequently! No brand of car sits more that a Rolls Royce, and no brand of car does worse from sitting. So it is great to see you out using the car. You should join the R.R. and Bentley owners club (RROC) and head to Nashville, TN, next summer for the annual convention with either of your cool steeds! -Another Bob M.

I watch Gary Mavers you tube channel , a incredibly practical guy on his work for his cars. Your car is an early model 6,2 litre , whereas about 1971/2 they increased the capacity to 6.7 litres to lower the the compression ratio ( for emissions) etc . The early cars had more chrome , I particularly like the chrome details either side of the iconic grill. Also you have what is called the Chippendale dash, don’t know how it got that name but nice anyway. Keep her going ! Thanks for video . Love these cars.

The hvac controls for the full insert, middle 1. middle 2, full out is for air volume/air quantity . You can control the air velocity with the fan. Left/Right for Temp and in the In/Out for Volume of air. Then there is the per vent controls.

I found a cutout from a magazine tucked into the giant binder of documentation and history that came with my '75 LWB Shadow about them sometimes being reluctant to start. On older cars, the fuel pump fires up and fills the carbs as soon as you turn the key, but on the Shadow it doesn't kick on until you're cranking the starter or when it's in gear. The recommendation was to put it in Reverse, then turn the key to "On" and wait about 10 seconds (or for the ticking to stop). Then turn it back off and put it back into Neutral or Park, pump the gas to set the choke, then turn the key to crank it over. I know mine struggles much less than it did before I started doing it this way. YMMV

All I needed to do was turn the key, wait 5 seconds, full depress the pedal to set the choke. Worked every time. Also keeping the battery switch in the off position as the electrons leak out something fierce.

I had a 69 SWB Shadow and the fuel pumps ran with just the ignition turned in. Depressing the gas pedal to the floor and releasing would set the choke and fast idle mode.

Bob you have a pretty car with a great history & glad to see your enthusiasm for your Shadow. Why not clean your Whitewalls instead of having graywalls🤪? Use SOS pads .V8 introduced in 1959 on Silver Cloud 2 series. & last were used in 2020 Bentley Mulsanne. I have the last year of the 5.0 Litre 6 Cylinder a Silver Cloud 1 & a 1989 Bentley Turbo RL .Wonderful cars & always a Special occasion to drive. Early cars like yours are more desirable than the later Shadow 11. No emission controls or catalytic converter , No rack & pinion steering rack to fail. Much nicer woodwork & you have the rear picnic tables that were not on later cars. Also you have the nicer Chrome Bumpers & later cars had rubber safety bumpers which are not as refined or attractive. I'm a big Gary Mathers fan too.

Terry I completely agree having owned 3 shadow cars. I think the earliest models are the best. Bob. You have a problem with your brake pump….it is far too noisy because it is worn. They can be restored by replacing the brake pump shaft and resetting it to the correct tolerances. People often think the ticking sound means the engine is no good….wrong….in your case it absolutely sounds like the brake pump…..which rides on the cam shaft, is either broken or worn. I’ve had cars where the tip of the brake pump shaft has snapped (particularly on early models) because it has a thin tapered shaft that weakens over time and snaps. RR later changed the brake pump shaft to be thicker so it doesn’t have a tendency to snap. I retro fitted the later thicker brake pump shaft to my 1966 and 1967 shadow based cars. Ran quietly after that

These engines had SU carbs which do not have an accelerator pump and jet... so pumping the throttle will do nothing to enrich the mixture when trying to start the car. The carbs have a piston which is damped via a an oil bath in the dashpot., this enriches the mixture when accelerating.

slightly incorrect about the suspention: from 1980 they changed from RR363 to LHM fluid shared with citroen. (and its cheaper) these engines love to blow head gaskets as most people dont drive them and they blow from just infrequent driving.

Always entertaining BOB. Nice car… we both owed a 1990 Prevost. You sold yours, why? I still have mine but I’m finding it difficult to find qualified garages/mechanics to work on it… anyway keep up the good content, I enjoy your channel… ✌️ peace out.

Bob, years ago, I used to work on John Forsyth Rolls Royce at his house and his Cadillac and Linda Evens cars Mercedes and her Cadillac. When I moved to California. And John Rice a model on his Alfa Romeo convertible. I moved to Boulder City in 1994 and since just moved to northern Idaho...... If I was in Boulder City still, I would work on your car. On March 23, 2024, I'll be working the IPOF car show injured police officer fund. Come on out to veterans park in Boulder City, this year will have Erik Estrada from chips and Adrian Zmed from TJ Hooker show. We'll have about 400 plus classic cars, cars from movies. Code 3 parade with all the emergency vehicles, swat vehicles, K9 demonstration. Gonna be an awesome day...

And I thought boats where the biggest or largest investment to throw money away. Nice car. Heard on some cars that LED'S upgrade will not draw enough current to activate the flasher. Spent twice the price for so called much brighter conventional head lights. Only lasted three years due to rated short bulb life.

I prefer Odyssey AGM batteries. Won't find them at walmart but any battery store will have them. Bonus that they won't leak.

AGM for sure, to keep the acid inside from sloshing around + in dry Vegas = water/battery fluid evaporation
