I saw a post on reddit saying that the response times on this display were really bad (like 37ms). Do you find that to be true in your experience using the laptop?
Upon visiting Lenovo's website, I discovered an alternative display option that caught my attention. It is a 15.6-inch WQHD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. This display utilizes IPS technology and features an anti-glare coating, making it non-touch sensitive. Additionally, it boasts an impressive 100% sRGB color gamut, 350 nits of brightness, and a refresh rate of 165Hz. The display is elegantly designed with narrow bezels. However, despite my search on RU-vid, I was unable to find any examples or demonstrations of this particular display option.
Hey , I just bought LOQ 15 with i5 12450H and RTX 4050 and 16GB RAM, I seen one problem, the laptop gets very Hot while gaming World of Warcraft, and internals are ok, but I mean body of laptop, near the screen is very hot, keyboard is ok, I can play, but also air vents push very hot air, and it seem quite similar on Quite mode and Performance mode between temps, like performance a little better, but its like to loud then, is it normal? Cause I was playing on my Asus Zenbook 14' with integrated nvidia MX350, it was less fps of course but not even as hot as this it :D
The importance of keyboard feel for a laptop can never be underestimated! Same with touchpads! Alienwares keyboards and touchpads have a really good feel. Nice to hear the Lenovos are good in that regard as well. I wish I was more passionate about the Legion's as you can get crazy good deals from Lenovo if you reach out to customer service(I'm sure you already know this) I could get a legion with a 4090 for significantly less money than a Blade 16 with a 4080 or about the same money as an AW X16 with a 4080.
@@TechGuyBeau There's def nothing wrong with Legions! Sorry for that came out wrong. This was my first gaming laptop purchase and just wasn't impressed with them as much as the Blade or AW X16. I ended up testing a legion at micro center and you are right the keyboard is really good. AW def wins though if you get the Cherry MX version and like clicky. I def prefer the Legion's over some of the Asus gaming laptops. Cooling is pretty good on the X16 as well but you are probably correct that the Legions cooling is better.
I’ve just wanted to ask if I get the Rtx 4050 6gb model and 16 GB ram but with an i7 13 gen processor will it run good? I’m afraid of getting this with an i7 chip since it’s not necessarily for gaming please help. Also does it run good with a 4K monitor?
I just got a custom built Lenovo Legion 5 pro GEN 8 w/ 32gb RAM, 1TB SSD, 500nit/240hz x1600 pixel screen, and a 4050 graphics card + 6gbddr5 (Ryzen 5 7xxx series) for $1.4K brand new off the website with special discounts. I’m stoked.
Hello.Quick question. Is the 2TB NVME SSD that you installed, supported by the laptop and does it work well? Any idea what is the max storage and RAM the laptop can be upgraded to? Thank you.
Absolutely. Super thin and lights that are powerful are a premium for sure. Like the x13/x16. But if you want power and portability you go that route. My legion 7 is a bit too heavy to lug around all day unfortunately
This dropped a few weeks after I bought a Legion 5 with a 3050Ti & it hurt me to the core seeing it on sale for basically the same price I got the Legion 5 at. There was no way I could return the Legion as I had already started the process of shipping it from the US to a different country. This and the Ideapad Gaming 3(with the refreshed 3050) are going to be very good options for gamers on a budget. Also, I saw Lenovo say it's pronounced as LOCK rather than L.O.Q.
Interesting, I didn’t know they called it “lock” lol. But yeah I think I’m terms of budget it’s good. That being said you will still love your laptop. Don’t worry about that
@@TechGuyBeau yeah, interesting name but I'm all for it if it means they phase out the Ideapad Gaming 3 naming scheme for their budget devices because of the mix up it causes with the regular Ideapads as I've seen it happen before. And I appreciate your sentiments about my Legion device. A little disappointing but still a significant upgrade on my old Inspiron gaming laptop from back in the day(when Dell still used "Inspiron" as their budget gaming lineup)
Great Video! I have a question. Is the pre-installed 8 GB ram enough if i don't do any gaming? I will probably mostly use Microsoft word, browse on chrome (simultaneously opening at least 15-20 tabs at a time) and running some software (Stata, Adobe Photoshop, low-key light video editing etc). watch RU-vid and some movies, play videos N.B. I have just ordered the one with 8 GB RAM version. Waiting for it to get delivered now. But still beinga college student, I can't afford to buy extra ram at the moment. Maybe will buy extra ram a few months or a year later. Hence asking
At the time of recording HWinfo didn’t have sensor data for temperature on the 7640hs or 7840hs. My next Phoenix laptop arrives Friday, hopefully they have added it to the program
Hi! I ended up ordering this laptop and want to upgrade it have some questions, can i upgrade the ram to 40 gb ? So can i add a 32gb ram in the second slot or should i just do 16 and 16? And for the ssd i would like to add a second one is this the appropriate one to order Crucial T500 2TB Gen4 NVMe M.2 Internal Gaming SSD, Up to 7400MB/s, Laptop & Desktop Compatible + 1mo Adobe CC All Apps - CT2000T500SSD8 Im not sure if it is and i heard it needs to be 2280. The laptop i got was Lenovo LOQ 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Storm Grey (Intel i5-13420H/512GB SSD/8GB RAM/GeForce RTX 3050)
for the ram i think its up to you but if you do 32+8 the first 8gb from each stick will be quad channel and then the rest of the 32 will be dual channel for 16 quad and 24 dual meanwhile 16+16 will run fully quad channel so i would recommend 2x16 gb since you lose like 8 gb for more speed
Temperatures will be identical between the two of them. You get two more physical cores on the rise and seven. So if you do desktop work, it’s going to make a decent difference. In gaming tasks it probably will be negligible or non-existent
Is this notebook loud while gaming compared to Legion 5? I have legion 5 and the noise is terrible for me, I am looking for some new laptop which is not too loud..
It’s much quieter than a legion 5. It has a significantly cooler cpu (Phoenix from AMD) and the gpu likewise doesn’t run hot. You can hear the fanatic but they are far quieter
I just bought a LOQ 16 on sale and I am impressed. I was expecting something cheap looking but that is not the case. In fact I don't think I will ever buy a gaming desktop ever again. I added an SSD and it runs well. I tried hooking it up to my 29'' 4k monitor and it is working surprisingly well. The colours aren't crisp I was afraid it would run hot but not all.
Great review! I got the 16” 7840hs and rtx 4060 16gb ram 1tb ssd for 900$. I got got it from Lenovos eBay store and it’s certified refurbished which is strange since its brand new laptop that came out. But people are finding them with 2K screens which I don’t see on their website at all. And I guess the 2K version is standard in Asia and some of Europe called the geekpro?
@@TechGuyBeau Can you specify what do you mean by good in any contextual numbers? I want to use this laptop for day to day tasks on battery and im specifically interested in iGPU mode, how long can it last while using it?
@@TechGuyBeau Alright thank you! And I don’t mean bother you again, but do you think this version of the LOQ is better than the Lenovo ideapad with Ryzen 5 6600h and RTX 3050 for gaming?
@@Jean90966 Ideapad gaming or Ideapad slim? If it’s Ideapad slim then technically the LOQ will perform better. This is because the LOQ had a higher wattage version of the 3050. They will be similar, but likely you’d see around 10% better performance on a higher wattage 3050. Offhand
But Plz tell me if we doing only normal and light tasks like office works, writing, web browsing then this laptop works around 4 hours? Without battery⁉ Bcz the battery is about 60Whrs!
Hi, which has better speakers and webcam? LOQ 2023 vs Legion Slim 5 2023? I am torn between this two. If it has the same speakers and webcam, then I might just get the LOQ 2023 since it is cheaper.
Hey this is dump but why you refered hs series as u amd market u as power efficient and for low end task but they promote hs as power efficent and high performance? Also would you suggest waiting for there H series to come in laptop?
Thanks for the review And wow for the price 637$ usd Are u sure about this price ?? Because im going to get one I cant wait untill it arrives to middle east
Yes but check here for the specific screen: psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/LOQ/LOQ_15APH8/LOQ_15APH8_Spec.html?ver=d37457ad-206c-485a-824f-a641561a5e6d
hey got that laptop for my brother i saw people were doing tests on hybrid mode so it switches automaticly for game? or i should leave on dgpu mode always ? im confused
I'm going to buy Lenovo Loq but I'm having problems choosing a processor. There are two versions in stores with an Intel processor: i5 12450h and Ryzen 5 7640HS. The configurations are the same except for the processor. Is it worth overpaying 100€ for an AMD processor?
@@TechGuyBeau Do they differ in anything other than the processor and diagonal of the models I wrote? I've only found differences in that, maybe I'm missing something. Perhaps you know of some other decent laptops for the same price? Or is LOQ still a great offer at this price? Thanks for your reply
Great video I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was thinking about purchasing this laptop but I had one doubt, the warranty seal. Would I be able to upgrade the RAM without removing any sticker that voids the warranty upon removing it? I would really appreciate your help.
@@TechGuyBeau I'm from India. So there might be a factory seal somewhere on the IN unit. I would probably still buy the base variant and get it upgraded at a service center or something. Anyways, I truly love watching your videos. Keep doing you.
should i get the helios predator 300 2022 with 3060 and i7 12th and better finish quality or the LOQ 2023 with ryzen 7 7840 and 4060, plastic finish?( both have the same price)
LQQ 16 or 15? Either way, the ryzen is extremely power efficient, runs well on battery and will have better battery life. 4060 is also better than 3060 for the same price+ frame generation, and since you mentioned LQQ also have the 2k 165hz screen, you should absolutely go for the LQQ imo.
@@dominicamoakobaah9516 okay let me summarize then Legion 5 will have 1. Better screen. Will be a bit brighter and colourful, and higher resolution. 2. A bit sturdier build. 3. Might have a larger battery maybe. 3. Has a higher power cpu, but not necessarily better. (Drains battery faster, is hotter). 4. Has a worse gpu (3050 is 6gb vs 3050ti being 4gb) The 3050ti REALLY kills the legion for me The LOQ you can get better gaming performance, the cpu is more efficient. The only negative is not quite as nice screen. Loq battery will last longer, it weighs less. And the gpu is superior My recommendation between these two is the LOQ. Crazy world.
@@TechGuyBeau what would be the better processor between i5 13500h vs ryzen 5 7640hs? or just opt for the ryzen since its cheaper? around $50cad pricendifference
@@dwilfred923 they should perform quite similar, the rise and processor will have better battery performance for sure however. The raw benchmark scores might be a bit higher on Intel if that matters
The new 3050 having more vram definitely helps a lot, but sadly Lvidia reduced the memory bus and speed, so IN THEORY the older 3050 should perform better on older games that specifically aren't so abusive in vram consumption, but in the newer model the new vram capacity frees up the main bottleneck the older one had, so the gpu, even though the nerfs it had, can stretch it's legs, and even allows some of the latest games to be even playable, because some of them are so hungry on vram they can't reach playable fps or in the worst cases, won't even launch.
Hello. Thank you for the review. I'm looking to buy a laptop in the 1250€ to 1500€ price range. Could you help me out? 1. Lenovo LOQ 16i 1250€ 13620H, RTX 4060, 16GB ram 2. Dell G16 1340€ 13650HX, RTX 4060, 32 GB ram, 1TB SSD 3. Dell Alienware M17 R5 1230€ Ryzen 7 6800H, 3070 Ti, 16GB ram, 1TB SSD All of them feature a similar WQXGA/QHD+ 165Hz screen. My usages are mainly designing, gaming and occasional video editing. Would it be better to spend some more and buy Legion Pro 5i 13500HX with 4060 and 16GB ram for 1450€? Thank you.
@TechGuyBeau Thank you for you for input. My friend had issues with Alienware too but their service was good so i thought it would be worth taking the risk. Legion Slim 5 begins at around 1250€ for the Ryzen 5 7640Hs, 16 GB, RTX 4060 and goes to 1620€ for the Ryzen 7 7840HS, 32 GB, RTX 4070. I get a 10% student discount on top of the usual 14% discount.
@@frankreginald3195 more money, but better build quality, better screen, better warranty, better gpu and better cpu. If the price is within budget the the 5 slim. For sure. Get the 4070 and 7840hs and don’t look back. Otherwise get the LOQ.
I just bought mine. I5 13500H with a 4050 and 1TB SSD with 8Gb ram for 770 on Amazon. Which i also went ahead and purchased 2x16 of DDR5 for an extra hundred.
