Gilmore girls is amazing, I'm rewatching it for Autumn too! My comfort show for sure. Lovely to see a fellow Autumn obsessor - I HATE summer and sinking into Autumn rn is making me very happy.
I love when people say they feel at home when they come to oxford, as it’s my home city I always feel at home walking around so it’s nice to know that the feeling is shared! I’d love to see you do a little oxford vlog of you reading Babel 🍁🍂
I've been in the mood for autumn since the beginning of August, which left me quite bewildered whenever I left the house and for some incomprehensible reason it was hot outside hahaha.🍁🍂
Hello, I think the fall has the effect on the imagination for mystery and romance. Here in the USA we have plenty of ghostly stories and witchy legends. Henry James wrote Sleepy Hollow taking place in New England a very mysterious place.
The American publication of Maggie O'Farrels new book is much more autumnal feeling. The UK cover is quite spring like in feeling, but it is a perfect read for Fall.
🍁🍂 aw, watching GG for the first time! I don't know if I would be able to now. I'm not used to USA long seasons of series anymore. I did watch it back when it was on TV in the early noughties, one episode a week. Imagine! haha. I loved it back then. I tried to rewatch it not long ago but couldn't, found them TOO verborragic and... the dialogues a bit forced, unnatural. But it LOOKS good! And the secondary characters are delightful. By the way, it's not always autumn in Stars Hollow. They go through all the seasons as Rory goes through the school year and stuff. Enjoy it!!
It’s exciting to be cozying up with a long book- and my knitting. On the west coast of British Columbia we usually have had extended spring and 🍂 autumn. Just came back from a week at Whistler where we cycled everywhere. Love your choices for TBR. When I reread I often choose an audiobook. I am just finishing the canon of Agatha Christie and look forward to diving deep into my first love, Sherlock Holmes. A Practical Act of Free Magic by HG Parry is next on my list which I honestly bought for the cover. 🙃
This was a lovely video, thank you Claire! I am a summer person and my whole body is in mourning (and perpetually cold) right now, but you've inspired me with different ways to enjoy and celebrate autumn! I've been meaning to rewatch Gilmore Girls too - I grew up in a similar town in Connecticut and it's a great way to vicariously experience a New England fall again. That reminds me, my favorite spicy candle is Home Sweet Home by Yankee Candle, it's really nice! And my favorite dark academia book is The Secret History by Donna Tartt 😊 Happy autumn to you and I can't wait for your next video! 🍂 🍁
Ooh we have quite a few books on our autumn tbr in common 😅 I’m also hoping to get to Babel, The Marriage Portrait, Practical Magic (a reread, I loved it when I read it a few years ago) and The ruin of All Witches. Hope you enjoy all of your autumn reads (and the season in general!) 🍂 🍂
I’ve just discovered your channel and I’m happy to find another Autumnal soul! I’m currently reading Gallant and it’s beautifully dark. Enjoy your TBR so many great options!!
Convinced we'd be a kind of besties in real life.... I just finished watching all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls and want to live in Stars Hollow now too. Indeed, people have commented many times that my daughter and I are a real-life version of the show. And the whole royal family deal.... hate what they stand for, love the history side of things and the pomp and ceremony. Plus Elizabeth was an outstanding example of service. I have looked everywhere since my favorite mug broke but have had no luck so far, but finding the industrial-sized mug for my tea is proving to be a challenge. Your ghost mug was cute. Loved the darker lippie!🍁
I adore the Practical Magic series but the first book is very different from the film! I’m currently reading The Marriage Portrait - having loved Hamnet - and so far I’m throughly enjoying it. Wonderfully cosy video, thanks for sharing 💛
Currently reading Babel and can confirm it is perfect for autumn 🍁🍂 Now I want to arrange my own TBR too! Although it is very unlikely that I will actually stick to it haha
A lovely and inspiring video, as always, Claire. Looking forward to reading Babel and A Discovery of Witches. I also want to order Autumn: An Anthology for the Changing Seasons by Melissa Harrison…I started with the Summer collection of prose and poetry this year and will continue on through the Spring edition. Happy Fall!!🍁🍂🌻🍎🍯🧡
This was such a lovely, cosy watch. Autumn is the best 🍁🍂🍂 I love seeing what history books you're picking up because I love history. Have you ever tried History Today magazine? They have a great book review section which I find is useful for finding some good recommendations
Candles, books and Autumnal mugs is the recipe for a perfect video. I read Babel and The Marriage Portrait this month and really enjoyed them. I had wanted to save them for October but I lack patience! My favourite Autumn candle just now is Apple and Sweet Fig and Golden Autumn from Yankee Candle, it’s the first Yankee candles I’ve actually bought in years. Again I had wanted to save them but have no patience when it comes to candles either 😂 🍂🍄🍁🦔
Lovely relaxing autumnal video, thanks 😊 My autumn reads, Ghostland by Edward Parnell, Albert and the Whale by Philip Hoare which I've already begun. Also part way into A N Wilson on Mystery of Dickens, which could take me through to the end of the year🍁
Some great idea Claire, looking forward to the marriage portrait. I read' The white Queen 'by Philippa Gregory and am really enjoying that period. Now I have gone further back to read her novel 'The lady of the rivers.' Quite good for autumn as witch craft was prominent then. 🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂 Thanks Claire
Love your videos, they're so peaceful and cosy. Autumn is my favourite season 🍂 I hope you enjoy Gilmore Girls! Would love to hear your opinion on the books mentioned in the show (after you've had the chance to just enjoy it as it is!). Cinnamon is my go to for autumn scents but my partner doesn't like those smells - tragic 😩
I am also currently reading practical magic and I enjoy it more than I thought. Have you also read the 2 prequals the writer wrote afterwards? I find it remarkable how different the writing style is and also, small parts of the story. I don't mind but I wondered what you think and also if you haven't read the prequals, why you like this book? Interesting book recommendations, furthermore. Curious for your reviews most of all! Especially of O'Farrel, but I like reviews in general. Also looking forward the snapshot videos. The other day I was watching back some themed/essayist videos you did on Virginia Woolf, which I also really enjoyed. So if you ever feeling like doing a themed video on a subject your interested in, f.e. history of the tudors, please follow that urge ;) Happy Autumn!
Practical Magic is one of my favourite movies of all time, and I read the novel few years ago and - unfortunately - absolutely despised it (it's so different from the movie). xd I sincerely hope you have a much better time with it. 🍁 I'm also reading Babel rn and enjoying it a lot, tho I think my expectations were a bit too high (i've heard people compare it to Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, and that's god tier book for me), but The deeper i'm in the better it gets, and i still have a long way to go. 🎃 🍂🍁🍂
I’ve read discovery of witches 🧙♀️ but think was too long and repetitive in some things also the second book also long 😂 gave up on the third instalment 🧙♀️🧙♀️🧙♀️
