This is another one of your vids that saddens me greatly but will put a smile on the face of an ecomentalist. Will have to open a bottle of French grape juice to lift my mood. Thanks again.
It's sad to see these old coal fired power stations closing one by one, there's only 3 left in England now West Burton, Ratcliffe on Soar and Drax which is being converted to biomass fuels. Great video
And now we are really seeing the price of these outright disastrous policies of this climate change hoax, we will freeze this winter and the climate lunatics are to blame.!!
Where do you get all your power from up there???!!!! There seems to be a lot of decommisioning of these plants that go on to be replaced with enormous housing developments that will need more power, reminiscent of chasing yourself up your own wotsit!!! Good to see so much track and associated "bits" before it all goes. Excellent droneography showing the lay of the land. 👍👍❤
Must have been strange walking a line that had been relatively recently disused. All still looking modern and serviceable. You got some incredible drone shots!
Fantastic video. Interesting seeing the railway and power station both dormant but still intact. I must also applaud you for respecting the railway and not assuming that (because it is apparently out of use) that you could free roam. Perfect timing as well as I read from the EDF energy website that following decommissioning and removal of hazards Cottam PS is due to be demolished in early 2021.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you :) I feel that if i go to these places that it may encourage others to do similar, so i'd rather show the safe way of doing things in the hope that others do the same :)
When coal was king , sad how it just went overnight . I used to work the Anglo-scottish services up and down the GSW and the midland . When I first started all we worked day in and out were coal services 7 days a week they ran . I imagine the line will be ripped up some stage :-( Nice vid
Yeah, but it didn't just go overnight. The tory government under Thatcher and the crazy war on the lower classes and mining unions had the whole area in its sights for ages before Scargill goaded Thatcher just too far. Neither could afford to yield and the miners suffered as a direct result.
Another great video Ant. Loved the walk and of course I delight in anything train. Drone footage was superb. Such a shame when places closedown. Thank you so much for taking me along and please stay safe
Great explore, seems so odd it's not used with all the signage and tracks in place. Your video will be a great look back one day when all that is gone.
Just come across your channel am finding it well explained and edited, yes a tinge of sadness and past memories of my association with both Cottam and Ratcliffe. Working at the former both on the towers and later for the CEGB, at Ratcliffe on the turbine blocks for Keirs.
Brilliant thought you were gonna hover abour the tower at the end there ...it is sad i know there not good for the enviroment but my god they own the skyline.... Cheers Ant Brilliant video and great flying too..Frank & Lee...
They must be higher than willington cooling towers as I was able to fly over them. These seemed a little too close for comfort.... 🤔 Thanks for watching as always
I was on the cottam farewell railtour which was the very final train to visit the power station on Saturday the 28th September 2019 which was run by UK Railtours.
Still the Uniper gas fired power station next door which has a long life ahead of it, EDF is selling some of the land to them I believe, some of the turbines were going to be moved by rail straight to Immingham and then shipped abroad as part of the decommissioning process, no idea if it ever happened.
I know many of the UK coal-fired power station have been worked well past their original design lifespans, still sad to see them dead like this. I think Bassetlaw want to turn the site of the Cottam PS into a new village of up to 1500 residential homes. West Burton 'A' contracts to supply electricity expire in September of this year, with coal generation being the last choice of supply for National Grid, I cannot see West Burton 'A' winning new contracts, unless something drastic happens.
Great video. I wonder how long the line will stay down and if the council will use the trackbed as cycleway/footpath, that would benefit the community no end.
I asked as when Ratcliffe on Soar near me is decommissioned there are plans submitted already to replace it with a huge incinerator plant. No decisions made yet.
Trekking & Towpaths that’s good then, they’ve already got a line just need a new station! Wish it was that simple. Down near Sheffield on the freight line to fox valley there’s a new development and the developers wanted to pay for a new station. Council said no to that but insisted on a new road junction to feed all the traffic on to a congested narrow road. Beggars belief! Moan over. Great video! 😁👍👊😎
