The higher end estimates puts Orsgon at the #1 spot for population density for cougars. The state has to pay houndsmen to often cull more than are hunted. Seems silly to spend money instead of issuing tags for using hounds and bronging revenue IN. Muledeer population are also the lowest they've ever been. A number of factors contribute but a mature cougar eats a deer a week on avg

Hunting cougar or near with dogs is illegal in Oregon. Has been for years. Also, cougars can swim. One was recently spotted on Haystack Rock on the Oregon coast.
