You should change your title. It's misleading. The cougar wasn't "stalking" him, it was trying to get him away from her kittens. The "jogger" was encroaching on her kittens while he was trying to get close enough for a video. Rule number one when you see kittens or cubs (bears) in the wild, give as much space as possible. Back away and leave the area. It's not a photo or video opportunity. If the cougar was stalking him, he would have never knew it, and would probably end up severely injured or dead. Also, if this had been a brown bear with cubs, we'd be seeing a very different video.
Probably a stupid question, but are cougars really deadly dangerous for humans? From EU so not familiar with the animal. The weight of this cougar can't be more than 110 lbs. I guess it's a different story to encounter a male cougar.
i'm honestly glad she's protecting her cubs. it shows she was not simply aggressive towards humans for no reason. i hope she's left alone. these cats are demonized enough.
@@Fallensk8r621 the news keep using "stalking" for their headers. Stalking would imply the cougar was going to prey which she was just protecting. Two different behaviours, protecting her cubs she just wants to scare off the runner

Doesn't seem like its intent was to attack and hurt him but make sure he got far away from her babies and see if he was a threat. If she really wanted to well the video could've been much shorter and graphic!

Hey, hiker. If you are such a nature lover, you should love it enough to research what will probably be out there tending to babies. You feel that you're superior to the animals? Then act that way! Burn a calorie, engage your superior brain to keep yourself AND the wildlife safe. It's good that you didn't die, of course, but maybe a couple of claw marks would have helped everyone remember that there are consequences to thoughtless endless encroachment.

I'm a little embarrassed because I think now she might've been just following him around until he got far enough away from her kittens which she was hiding somewhere.. because she was making a lot of noise & doing a little dance which I think was supposed to scare him away more than anything, but who knows it definitely would have scared the **** out of me
@@katakittieks oh, she was definitely only intimating him and chasing him away from her young. If she would have wanted to get him, she would have snuck uphill, gotten ahead of him and then pounced on him as he walked by. She could have had him by the throat before he knew she was there.
Weird I heard these beautiful cats keep as far away as they can from man and that if you doncome across one you should stand still, avoid eye contact and they should slink off. Give them some space. If she really wanted to hurt him she would have gone for him in a trice and he would not have seen her coming.

Animals think in two modes. Food and Competition. The moment the jogger presented himself as not being food, i.e. tossing the rock combatively, the mountain lion decided " Aight i'mma head out.
Unless he was physically trying to harm her cubs she wouldn’t attack him. She was just scaring him off. She was more concerned about the safety of her cubs over anything. I’ve encountered a mountain lion before and I yelled it looked at me and turned the other way and ran away. Animals have a flight or fight mindset. Unless it’s absolutely required to fight animals usually run away. The only time that a mountain lion would attack a person would be to defend her cubs that’s it most of the time they will just scare you off. And she was jumping at him because she was trying to look big in order to scare him off. She wasn’t trying to attack him she was just trying to look big.
@@prometheusrex1 if you want to get technical in a situation like this one animals as well as humans because we are animals have two modes. Fight or flight. The first choice will always be flight and fighting is the last resort.

I live in Richfield, and we get them in town every now and then. Sometimes someone will report one at the middle school cuz they hang out on the soccer fields, which is only a block away from my house, so we just try not to leave our houses alone too late at night.
@@jorjabrown4978 Scary. I scan the area everytime I take my chihuahua out to walk. I saw three coyotes at the HD dist ctr in Redlands, CA. I watched them go on their way then took my chihuahua out in front of my truck and left my door unlocked.
Looks like he was more interested in filming the cougar for social media instead of immediately picking up a branch or rocks with both hands and tossing them at the cougar.

That is not what a stalking cougar looks like. You never get to see the cougar that is stalking you until it lands on your back. And maybe not even then. That was just a mama cat telling you to get out of her territory and stay away from her babies.

No he didnt. He didnt approach anything. He was jogging and saw the kittens and stopped. There was no approaching. To be clear. Saying he approached makes it sound like he was one of those idiots that try to approach bison, etc, thinking that they are friends with wildlife.
