Thank you for sharing this important video! I love it how comprehensive it is by age and the different options (natural remedies vs OTCs). As a PA who works in the ER mainly with pediatric patients on colds and flus, this is definitely a bread and butter for me as well. Hemp cream 900,0002 extra strength on the voice box area relieves pain and stops chronic cough. It smells like vic's. Keep it off the face. I actually used it on myself first. I have this on hand for back pain relief. After 5 minutes you'll feel a nice cooling feeling. This cream is like a miracle treatment. I was skeptical when I used it for back pain. I couldn't even stand up and was hosting Easter for 40 people. I rubbed the cream on my lower back, within 5 minutes my pain was totally gone and never came back again.

Omg 🙏🏾🙏🏾 thank you so much for this I tried tumeric milk for my 2year 7mnths old she’s been coughing non stop since we went to bed with 3-5 seconds in between her cough. Gave her the tumeric milk although I had no honey she took just as sip and it’s working 😢😮. I had already told myself it’ll be another sleepless night thank you so much

My asthmatic grandbaby gets severe coughs. We put a tiny dab on the chest and lower neck of hemp cream 900,000. Try it on yourself first so you get an idea of what it does. Keep it off the face because it has a vics like vapor. It's way better for pain and stops coughs so they can sleep.

One of my faves (for myself at least, my daughter is a little too young yet) is good old fashioned (preferably homemade) chicken noodle soup. It's warm and helps alleviate the dry scratchy throat and provides a lot of fluids. Plus it just makes you feel better. I also like peppermint tea.

This was super informative! My 13 month is on the last part of cold and although we have been doing saline, suction, humidifier and steam shower as suggested by her pediatrician, I wasn't aware of honey or offering her turmeric milk. I will be trying tonight.

I'm not afraid of medicine, but it seems to me like my colds either go longer or turn into sinus infections when I try to suppress them with dayquil or mucinex, so I try to avoid them and go for the honey even as an adult! Very unscientific, but the times I've tried to use cold medicine to get me through a deadline with a cold it just seems like it goes and goes and goes.

Hey Dr. Mona, thank you for this informative video. You mention the vick's baby rub having eucalyptus in it, however I keep reading that we shouldn't use Eucalyptus until a child turns 2. Hello Doc, My 5 year Doc been coughing while she is sleep since she start going to school. First Doc said it may be allergies we been doing Flonase and Claritin it didn’t help much then we regularly doing Turmic honey milk, saline spray every day even took to ENT and he don’t think it’s GERD even gave some med for GERD. We can’t sleep also when she wake up in morning so much mucus she spitting out. We also have humidifier too. We haven’t take to Allergist yet Please help Doc. Love to Hear your opinion.

so vitamin c doesnt actually really help with colds! It wont hurt, but in small clinical studies, they did show zinc being helpful at first sign of illness in shortening cold duration.

Hi doc! My child had a fever for three days highest temp was 39. Then the next two days she had low grade fever of 37, but sometimes during the day it went off to around 36. Her CBC results were normal, although her WBC was near upper limit. Her Urinalysis also showed normal results. She had cough, which according to the pedia is dry cough. But she was fine in a sense that she was doing her normal routine and eats well. On the 7th day the pedia prescribed her antibitocs since she still had low grade fever of 37 and cough didn't seem to improve, although the kid was not coughing frequently. In scenarios like that wherein the fever lasted for several days (oltho it was a low grade during the last few days), was that already a good sign that it was not a viral infection, but most likely a bacterial infection? hence the need for antibiotc?

Usually, fevers from viral illnesses will resolve within 3-5 days so if fever above 38C lasts >5 days a further workup is typically recommended. If viral symptoms like cough and congestion are present, patient is otherwise feeling well and fever is resolving antibiotics are likely not necessary I hope that helps!

This is about the 4th time my 2 year old has had a cough. I came to see if you had any info on a cough and sure enough you have great info on it which is helping to ease my mind. One question tho about the breathing: is snoring and congestion or minor "wheezing" at night ok? Or does that warrant a dr visit? She's sleeping but like I said, she snores because she's congested. She's also still active during the day but her appetite is a bit less than normal. I'm more concerned about her breathing. My husband was worries maybe she might have pneumonia but I don't know??

Not true by and large. We drink turmeric milk with cow's milk during coughs and colds ourselves. Does not add to mucous production

Curious on your views on giving “afrin” or “Zyrtec” for a three year old during a cold. My husband thinks I’m being overly cautious by not giving it during the night when it helps clear her congestion. I’m more of the “turmeric milk” and he’s more of the “pharmaceuticals” type of guy so we bump heads a lot. Adding stress on an already stressful time.

There's no evidence to support the use of antihistamines for a cold. Afrin restricts blood vessels in the nose which can help with congestion but it's not FDA approved in kids under 6 and is also not recommended so for that age I recommend nasal saline instead
