Likely depends on how big the soul piece is. I would think. Like if it was your only horcrux and you just used 50% of your soul in it. Then I would figure that would do it. But if you went Voldemort and it's your 7 or 8th likely what would be such a small piece of your soul likely wouldn't do much as there is less of you in it. Would be like trying to fill a bank vault with a single penny

Yeah, Harry didn't die because he got the only known cure for Basilisk venom, pheonix tears. So, naturally, the soul survived and it's kinda obvious becuz harry can definitely see into voldys mind and speak parseltounge (sry if my spellings are wrong)

That's the main assumption that I think is key. "Gone forever" means you can't find it but it still exists on the mortal plane

Sure, if he knew what he was doing, what to say, and the Basilisk wasn't cursed to follow Riddle. The Basilisk could have been tricked, or better yet, convinced to help Harry.

Interesting. And if he ever tried to command the basilisk, the Voldemort's soul in him would be more mature and powerful than the Tom Riddle's soul in the diary (if there are differences in the soul pieces that are separated at different time), and his control would be much stronger over the basilisk.

But the commands would be coming from Harry's soul.

@@ShinRaSabai I personally think it would be the opposite because soul fragment in the dairy appeared to be a normal young man (probably separated since Tom Riddle is young and contained more portion of the soul), unlike soul fragment in Harry that was disfigured and snake-like which we know was the last Horcrux accidentally created by Voldemort, so it would be the youngest Horcrux with the least portion of soul since he already spent his soul doing six more before Harry.

That could be true too, since we never get any more insight into the making of horcrux so we can only make some speculations. What's in my mind is that Voldemort when killing Harry, probably had more power than the younger version of himself, and maybe could have a better control over the basilisk if he wished so. So the soul piece in Harry probably would be more powerful too. But again, suddenly I remembered that somewhere in the book Dumbledore said that the soul piece in the diary is the biggest since it was created first, and so it had conscious, compared to the other horcrux he created later. So maybe you are right.

It can be separated, and at least partially will on it's own sometimes. So it seems entirely possible that a dementor could do it, if they for any reason wanted to utterly destroy that soul. Not only that, but if all else fails, open yourself to the soul, and well... martyr yourself to destroy it, seems the one in Harry wasn't a special case there. Problem with that, Ginny almost died and would have served as the catalyst for Tom's revival, so it seems the risk is perhaps too high there. Now the only question is, could you fully absorb a Hocrux, then make your own with that soul, now yours and well easier to deal with?

Faux healed him b/4 he died. And you can kind of think of the killing curse as the dementor's kiss - it instantaneously rips the soul from the body. Harry couldn't come back if the basilisk killed him, b/c it would have destroyed his body. And the two have to die at the same time, so it wouldn't work anyway.

Because JK leaves more plot holes and unanswered questions than KA Applegate did with Animorphs. In all seriousness, I assume it's because he didn't actually die in Chamber of Secrets. I'm guessing there are different rules when the horcrux is a living being. Voldemort avada kedavra'ed Harry, which wouldn't have really worked on the diadem, for example. The diadem wasn't a living thing. Basilisk venom and fiendfyre DESTROY, so it makes sense they'd work on the horcruxes, and I guess the basilisk venom gave the sword that extra poison needed to destroy them. Like, you can use a book after it's been waterlogged, especially one protected by magic, but when you stab it through the center with the most caustic venom in the world, there's really no coming back from that. It's permanently destroyed at that point. The Sorting Hat gave Neville the sword, so we really have no way of knowing if Nagini and her horcrux could have just been destroyed by chopping her head off with any normal weapon (or even bludgeoned her to death with Uncle Vernon's bent-up shotgun), or if different rules apply for living horcruxes. So my BEST guess is a horcrux made with a living being is only able to be destroyed when the being themself die.

If they knew what beach it was on they could just burn down all the sand with fiendfyr. It is really dangerous though.

Yes. That's why the diary was the most powerful horcrux whereas only the locket (the 2nd horcrux) was the only other one to manifest a physical form albeit a less solid one.
