Honestly, I always just figured that Voldemort deliberately changed his appearance so that he wouldn't see his filthy Muggle father every time that he looked in the mirror.

I imagine Voldemort's Patronus would be a snake. So, there is a good chance that his Animagus form would also be a snake. My point is: could it be that, by making the Horcruxes and fading away his soul and "humane" spirit, he started to display his "spirit animal" underneath?

This is how I see it playing out..... Voldemort walked into a muggle plastic surgeon's office and when the surgeon asked him what he wanted, he wordlessly held up a picture of a snake, gestured at it and then pointed at his own face. The plastic surgeon just told him he was crazy and tried to leave, but then Voldemort apparated towards the exit, blocking the surgeon's path. He then gestured more emphatically at his picture of the snake and then aggressively pointed at his face again, with the angriest look he could muster. The muggle surgeon at this point was too freaked out to argue and obediently performed the snake-oplasty for Voldemort

My initial thought was that Voldemort’s animagus form (if he were to become one) was a snake of some sort. Almost as if, as he strips away his humanity, he continues to transform into a “base” form, one he cannot change willingly. Animagus forms don’t appear to change, from what I know, and seem to follow similar rules to Patronuses, following your deepest desires and your soul. It’s somewhat supported by Pettigrew’s form changing after 12 years as a rat. It also means that, should anyone else create that many horcruxes, they wouldn’t become more snakelike, but rather more like their animagus form, whatever it may be. Just another thought, though yours is clearly more detailed than mine.

Since all the ministry people could tell at a glance it was really him after his duel with Dumbleodore, I believe he already had the snake features at the time of his "death" at godrics hallow. Maybe it was not the number horcruxes that made him like that, but several other dark experiments he performed on himself to become stronger

Maybe voldemort looks like a snake because someone put the Maledictus curse on him but did it wrong. Voldemort started taking his snake form much slower and eventually, stopped transforming mid-curse. Or maybe he tried to become an animagus but someone sabotaged his transformation halfway through, leaving voldemort as a half-wizard half-snake.

I always thought it was because he was a descendant of Salazar Slytherin, but this honestly a lot better.

I've always just assumed it was because his soul was split so much, it took away some of his more human aspects and started to fill it in with his animal connection (a patronus, if he could make one), the snake

I always thought that he spent so long as a spirit that he began to take on the animal shape of his soul (similar to how a patronus or animagi form comes about). An alternate to the idea that he just "set" into the snake shape from the length of time could be that his soul was so diminished it supplemented itself off of that which it attaches to, pulling some snake into voldy's soul as he went along.

I thought about this as well. While it does make sense and I do like the theory. It also seems likely/ implied that Voldemort's features had already become snakelike by the first Wizarding War up to the Halloween night he lost his powers, when his face was assumed to be a mask by that child. The fact that yes he does appear to have the same face when possessing Quirrel and also that the Ministry wizards recognize him immediately in OotP, with no mention of any difference in his appearance. It seems like something we would hear Dumbledore make note of. The same thing with his Death Eaters on his resurrection though they would be too afraid to say anything anyway. It seemed clear cut that the snakelike transformation probably came entirely from the creation of too many Horcruxes. It is said serpents are often used in the worst kinds of dark magic. So they are probably involved in the making of a Horcrux in some way, a way that leads to adopting a few of their features when done too many times would be my guess. I'd love a definitive answer though!

I always felt like he cut parts off himself when he created the horcruxes. the locket has his eyes in it, for example. so it only made sense to me that he lost more and more of his human features, because he gave away more and more of what made him human - his soul.

isn't it odd that snakes, the whole premise of Voldy, the Basilisks are one of the only things that can destroy the very thing keeping Voldy alive.

BUT THAT'S JUST A THEORY. A POTTER THEORY.

Many people forgot that Book!Voldemort is not a "guy without a nose". He's really terrifying. Creating Horcruxes disfigures the soul. In fact that is what it is - an intentional disfiguring of the soul. The physical disfigurement I believe is a reflection of the disfigurement of the soul. We see this when Harry looks through people's memories to see Tom Riddle at different stages of his life. He starts off as a handsome man - but as he creates more and more horcruxes, this is more and more reflected in his physical appearance. In particular, he grows to be more snake-like. His eyes, his nose, his mouth grows to resemble a snake. Why this is is uncertain. But it's not just that his nose falls off - it's that his appearance becomes snake-like.

I don't really have a new year's resolution this year. Taking it easy on myself from now on. :) BUT, I AM doing monthly goals! Like, this month, my goal is to do one thing that scares me and to make at least two new animated videos!

I just thought that he tried (and failes) to become an animagus and his animal form would be/is an smake. He tried because being able to transform himself at will would be very useful in his line of work. This probably happened after his interview with Dumbledore and the features he has then are explained by horcruxes

Weird question: if Harry could speak parseltongue, then why didn't he just speak to the Basilisk instead of fight it? like at least try to bargain. I get that it obeys Voldemort/ Tom, but hey, a little bit of Voldemort is in Harry anyway so why not?

Snakes are not evil. Magic reflects the character of ones soul. It is what defines ones animagus form, their patronus, and even what wand mixture chooses them. Tonks longing for Lupin and trying to understand him resulted in her patronus turning into a wolf, Hermionie's patronus being an otter (of the weasel family [hint hint] intellegent, creative, with a not physically apparent penchant for viciousness [hitting Malfoy, sicing birds on Ron]). James being a stag (king of the forest, mostly benign, but more than able to defend himself and others, showoffy [the rack of the stag and Jame's nature]) while Peter was a rat (fearful, sneaking around) and Sirius was a large dog (this shows that he and James apart from being friends had a rivalry between them [the hound that pulls down the stag] where they would compete with each other as their history of misdeeds trying to outdo each other suggests, but also showcases his loyalty). And as for wands, the best examplenis Harry and Voldemort, the only two characters that we know of that use pheonix feather cores. Pheonix's are the symbolnof rebirth and both had conqured death in their own ways only to raise up more powerful than before. So that being said, Voldemort becoming a snake isnhis inner charcter manafesting. If he were an animagus he would likely be a snake, as would his patronus be. If Peter created horcruxes, no doubt he would become more rat like in appearance. This is also shown with Greyback whom had fully embraced being a werewolf, and so his body started to become more wolfish (sharped teeth, increased density of body hair, and alleged additional agility while in human form).

I remember when horcruxes are explained in the movies that one conceals a part of their soul in an object. But Nagini is not an object, she is a living thing. Making a horcrux out of a living thing could maybe lead to an exchange of some sort maybe?

I assumed it was because when Voldy was regaining his body in book 4 he was drinking Nagini’s (a snake) milk. Also I feel like there was something about her venom or milk involved with the spell in the cauldron at the graveyard but idk. Either this was my thought process. Love the video! ❤️🐍

It’s a popular misunderstanding that Voldemort doesn’t have a nose because the movies. This is how Voldemort is described after he returned in Goblet of Fire: “Whiter than a skull, with wide, livid scarlet eyes and a nose than was flat as a snake's with slits for nostrils…” We can therefore draw the conclusion that Voldemort had both a nose and nostrils - the nose was only quite flat. This description may even be a bit excessive - it’s from the point of view of a boy who’s looking at his parents’ murderer. He also describes Voldemort’s hands like “large, pale spiders”, and that certainly doesn’t mean he had sixteen fingers. This is what happened moments later: He put back his terrible face and sniffed, his slit-­like nostrils widening. "I smell guilt," he said. "There is a stench or guilt upon the air. No, Book!Voldemort wasn’t noseless.

One other events that happened was he tried to attack Harry. perhaps the curse rebounding since he trying to attack Harry's face in particular actually caused his features to melt away.

I think it is from making multiple horcrux. Where a Patonus is the positive side of your soul manifasting as an spirit animal making a Horcrux wil make the darkside of your soul manifest in a much more perminent way. Just al making a Horcrux is a more permenent action as making a patronus. The manifestation when making a horcrux stays around and slowly changes you as jou are reliing on it more and more to survive.

One thing I'm wondering building off of all this is in a flashback in the deathly Hallows I think it was when he was on his way to the potters a kid ran by and said nice mask mister. I'm wondering if he wasnt snake like then too, and if so then I'm also wondering if he used some transfiguration to make himself look more scary/threatening.
