i cant wait to see the crowd reaction to when he steps onto home ice for the first time. With that said i kind of hope its next season and he just makes sure hes actually 100%.
I'm going to make sure I go to the game that he makes his appearance for the first time in over 2 years that's going to be so cool to see. This guy means so much to Colorado he's going to be on our rafters with forsberg roy hejduk foote Bourque sakic and stastny and goulet (B.C.)
I just hope he gets right so he isn't limited post career, he has been a great player for us but if he can't come back at his potential then for himself I hope he retires and stays healthy for his family.
No need to rush it rn. As long he is a constant in the locker room in this final stretch, i think we are in good hands and even stronger for next season, if he's 100%
If he's not 100%, there's really no reason to rush it. Let him heal. If he doesn't return until the year after, then I would look to pin a new captain. Mac or Cale from the rumors I'm hearing could be pinned. That's if Landeskog doesn't return until the 2025-2026 season. Or if he goes the way of Francouz.
As much as it sucks, I think the Avs need to be sure he's 100% recovered before he plays again and nothing less, realistically meaning the start of next season. Too much is on the line, and he's such a great player and captain. Anything happening to his knee at 90% and I would expect him to retire due to the toll he's expressed already and the presumable fact that would leave him nearly 33 years old with 4 years of rust. Best case I can see this season is he comes back in the 3rd round as a 4th liner to inject extra physicality and leadership into the lineup. But I didn't even know Makar's skate blade did it until watching this. How miserable for him, because I absolutely love this guy and we know what he brings to the table. EVERYTHING. Nobody beats us in a best of 7 if prime Gabe is in this lineup, but as it stands, I can't in good faith pick us to go all the way this Spring (hope I'm wrong!).
Rantanen-MacKinnon-Drouin Nichushkin-Mittelstadt-Landeskog Wood -Colton-Lehkonen Trenin-Cogliano-Duhaime/Parise I would say that’s scary. But safety first with Gabe.
I think fans and the media need to remember that we are not professional NHL athletes. There is no one in better shape and access to the best medical care money can get. If Gabe wants to come back, we need to let him and trust that the doctors will tell him no if its not safe. We also need to remember that yes, Ball had the same surgery, but Gabe and Lonzo have very different requirements for the knee. In basketball you are constantly jumping and putting your full weight plus gravity on it, if you are jumping in ice hockey every play, you are playing it wrong. I have no reservations about him being game speed come playoffs. Do we really believe that Nikita Kucherov is that much better? He was away from the game for nearly a year and won a Con Smyth trophy when he miraculously returned for the playoffs. If his knees do feel better, he will be a better skater than he was during that run by virtue of being healthy.
There are other variables here too. Of course, he is a great player. But he hasnt played for two whole seasons (minus two years in experience) and he would be joining a group where everyone has had a chance to mesh with each other. Even if he is 100% in top physical shape (which I would still doubt), there are questions of being out of the loop for two years and catching up with league development in terms of gameplay and systems, psychological issues (is he afraid of hurting the knee again?), (re)finding chemistry with the linemates, and so on. These factors need time to sort out, and even if they will all work out well, you gotta realize that playoffs is not the time for sorting these things out. That could kill his career and his future value. Better wait until the next season
@@user-ye4ek7gq5c he's playing in the exact same system still, that hasn't changed since coaches haven't. The timeline for return is still may 10th, that's late second early third round. Players know how rare it is to win a championship, or even having a chance at one. He will be ready to play if they make it that deep in the post season. If he wasn't in peak physical shape, the front office wouldn't be entertaining it. The muscle memory comes back quickly, it won't take long for him to play at NHL speed again. Professional athletes are different animals
@@charliebarber7797 I see your point. But I think we can go for the cup either with or without him. I dont think its going to make a big difference. Its just one player, and as much as I love him, he is not Wayne Gretzky
For this season, if the avalanche get to the Stanley cup playoffs, he should be with the team. He shouldn't skate unless 100% healthy - one bump and it's over for him. He should be on the bench as the emotional and physical support for his team - they would appreciate thT .
I don’t think he could possibly be ready for a battle in the playoffs after all this time. The lack of leadership on the ice without him is a concern. Mikko got laid out last week with a good clean hit but I bet if our captain was on the ice he would have went after Ekholm. Who sticks up for our stars now? No Landy, no Kermit!
I don't see this happening folks. He hasn't played in 2 seasons and is coming off a major knee surgery. Obviously I hope he does but I wouldn't get your hopes up
It would be a dream come true to see him come back late in the playoffs. That would be such a morale boost for the team and just imagine him hoisting that Cup again after an incredible recovery. You know that's what he wants too!
I absolutely get you, but sorry to say that you are just dreaming. With or without him, its going to be an uphill battle for the cup, and his addition in the playoffs may even hurt the chances of the team and and, in addition, totally kill his health and career. Its better for him to come back next season. Its a total unknown factor of what kind of Landy we may see when he is put on ice in a playoff game
As much as I want to see him on the ice with the boys this playoff run I rather him get 100% healthy so he can hopefully finish out the eight year contract
Let him recover 100% first, I remember this baseball player from the 90’s, tore his rotator cuff I think, career ending injury, at his press conference he had his arm in a sling and he was crying his eyes out, his shoulder tattoo was exposed, it was fist clutching a baseball. I do not want that for Landy.
Pretty stupid to be without a captain furring a Stanley cup playoff run. We need to make Nate captain I love landy and he can be captain when he’s back with us
i sure hope not. the guy has been out for over a year after doing an experimental surgery. how about we don't push him to come back into the most intense games of the year.. besides that fact u just know some piece of shit like benn or slashsaitl will target his knee.
