I think MacKinnon locked down the Hart trophy with his performance against Minnesota on a national stage. That third goal he scored was all-time.

The Canadian bias of the Hockey Writers' Association will clinch it. And apart from the nationality it is going to be for sentimental bs reasons, like MacKinnon's been one of the frontrunners for years and deserves a Hart, and Kucherov (and McDavid) have won it before so now it's MacKinnon's turn. Kucherov deserves the Hart more this season, 53 points ahead of the next highest scoring TB player, whereas MacKinnon is 35 points ahead of the next Avs player. That's over a 50% bigger buffer and the Hart is supposed to be awarded to the player most valuable to his team. There is no actual or factual argument that MacKinnon's been more valuable to his team than Kucherov to his team.

I’m coming here from the future when the playoffs have started. Kuch scored a bunch of empty net goals to pad his stats, and it’s really showing in the playoffs. The simple truth is that each team's supporters can make a case for any of Kucherov, MacKinnon or McDavid to win. Since of those three MacKinnon is the only one who hasn't won it before I think he'll win it this year and it wouldn't be a pity win. As the race is so close this year I don't think any of the fan bases can really be upset if one of the other two win the Hart this year, if they're honest.

The Hart Trophy should probably go to Kucherov tbh. I really dont think Tampa would be in the playoffs without him. If anything, Mackinnon deserves the Art Ross more than Kuch (given how many empty net points Kuch has).

The whole "they wouldn't be in the playoffs without him" argument falls flat to me. So what? Why is the teams position in standings important only when it's the team barely making playoffs. I think the guy that drove his team to a top 5 team is more valuable than the guy that drove it to barely making playoffs. Especially when you do factor in the # of 70 pt players stat. Nate is much better 2 way as well. Kucherov may finish with more points, Matthews will finish with more goals, great, they have trophies for that. Nate is the engine behind one of the best teams in the league and that's Hart.

mackinnon has 2 minutes toi on average per game more than Mathews. thats huge. his faceoff % is shit. Mathews better in faceoffs, better contributor defensively, shooting % by far, hits, blocks, and ofcourse goals... 51 even strength goals from Mathews is Macks total of the year... get real. Mathews deserves the hart if he hits 70 because it's just unheard of. assists don't matter much. How many of them were secondary ones too? too much Avs bias here.
@Co_avsnation
@Co_avsnation 2 месяца назад
I don’t disagree that 70 goals is absolutely nuts, but he’s still 31 points behind MacKinnon. You can’t say assists don’t matter. I’m not saying every Matthews goal is a garbage goal, but look at Zach Hyman. He has over 50 and not one of them is Hart Worthy. Mackinnon has 48 more assists than Matthews. Also, not that it matters in the Hart race, but how far has Matthews gotten in the playoffs in his career?
@Bink1221
@Bink1221 2 месяца назад
@@Co_avsnation you're right, assists don't matter much in the hart race... especially when alot of them are secondary assists, and you're forgetting Mackinnon as 2 EXTRA MINUTES PER GAME ON AVERAGE over Mathews. Thats sooooo much more time to rack up points. Mathews destroys Mackinnon in everything else. faceoffs, shooting %, blocks, hits, and Mackinnon also has twice as much giveaways than MAthews. Mathews is way better contributor to the team overall especially defensively.

@mint1k

1. You mention that MacKinnon is helping his teammate (Drouin), you don't think Kucherov elevates his teammates? You are basically making an argument that you don't allow argument against by starting with an assumption. MacKinnon is the reason Drouin is doing well, but no one on the Lightning benefits from playing with Kucherov apparently. His 100 assists apparently didn't help anyone score goals or inflate their point totals. 2. Kucherov doesn't have Rantanen as you state... he also doesn't have Cale Makar, and Vasilevskiy has a .900 save percentage. Hedman's best days are far behind him, or are Avs fans going to argue against Cale Makar being superior Hedman to prop up MacKinnon. 3. Empty net points might be "easier" but if you want to do the "most valuable" argument, an empty net goal/assist at the end of a tight game to seal it is more important than the fourth goal in a 6-1 blowout. Unless you are willing to take a look at the impact each individual point has created and break it down, this is insanely shallow analysis and also implies you think he doesn't even deserve to win the Art Ross, which is a trophy that isn't based on narrative. 4. Kucherov's +/- beats Point's, who is a -14, by 25(twenty-five!). The Lightning as a whole had terrible goaltending (30th in the league, twitter.com/JFreshHockey/status/1774463654269796552) this year which drags the whole team's +/- down and his teammate have been terrible. The Avs have had around average goaltending this year but it has been significantly better than the Lightning's. I don't have a problem with MacKinnon winning the Hart, I believe either one has a strong case, but some of your arguments are coated with dishonesty and a blind hate for Kucherov. Maybe you don't even realize it but the hate you have for him is palpable throughout the whole video and makes you hand wave anything that's in his favor and talk about him like he's a fraud.
@solomon8957
@solomon8957 2 месяца назад
bro actually said goaltending, avs goaltending has been bad, not consistent. and as he said only makar rantanen as teammates over 70 point. kuchurov dont have super star but overall than the team surruonding mackinnon. and mackinnon play better defense. and makar toews play bad defense this year, u cant doubt.
@Co_avsnation
@Co_avsnation 2 месяца назад
I never said Kucherov doesn’t elevate his teammates, never. But has he taken a guy that’s career was toasted and turned him into one of the best players on the team? No. You guys have 4 other players over 70 points. We have 2. So Kucherov has deeper talent around him. That’s my point. Tampa fans always think that anytime we make an argument we’re hating on Kucherov.
